What did you guys think of Blair Witch? It seems pretty divided.

I have not watched it since the theatre, but I loved it in the theatre. I had not seen anything like it at the time and thought it was pretty innovative and scary.

It's one I keep meaning to re-visit, but I never seem to get around to it.

Warlords 2007

4.5/10
Not sure where to start here. Production is good across the board. Acting isn't bad, cinimetography and camera work is good.

But, the story is just weak. I can see that they were trying to portray conflict between the 3 brothers as well as "war is hell", but shit, the writing was garbage.
One other mention, the music, what the hell? I thought this was supposed to be a Chinese epic, not some crappy generic formulaic piece...

If it wasn't for the quality in the production, this would easily be a 2.

I remember liking it pretty much, for the most part. I actually think, kinda like Paranormal Activity, that it's a movie that is best watched alone, at home, or at least at home with just a SO or something. The fewer distractions the better, so you can really get wrapped up/absorbed into what the characters on-screen are experiencing.

I think if you saw it when it was 1st out.... when the hype and "mystery" was still around it, it was unbelievably good (you have to remember MANY people thought this was REAL footage when they saw it... it was some of the 1st TRULY effective viral, on-line marketing. They CRUSHED it).

To watch it now... well I think it still may be good. But it will lose some of its "creepiness". Still well done and worth the watch IMO. I think alot of people hate on it, because, much like facebook, it's just cool to do so.

Yeah, pretty much agree with all of this. There was certainly the thought this was real when it first came out and that helped hammer home the scariness, but just the way it was presented worked very well for me at the time. As a horror lover throughout my life, I found this to actually be scary and I had not been scared by a movie in many, many years when I saw it.

Definitely need to watch it again.

Event Horizon - 8.5/10 - Nostalgia viewing for me. Really liked it back when I first saw it probably over 10 years ago, still enjoyed it now. Flawed, but remains one of my favorite movies.

The Rules of Attraction -
Dunno what to rate it. Movie was really not good. They tried so hard to be angsty and shocking it just came off as stupid. Nice to see Jessica Biel acting like a bitchy slut for once. Plenty of good nudity in the R version. I am not aware of any special editions.
The plot meandered too much and the supposedly edgy cinematography did not compensate for it. Ends up being a sub-average college sex romp. Forgettable, which is probably why it took me 8 years to see it.

Oh man, I thought this film was pretty great. The sense of desperation as she searches everywhere for her Father yet only seems to encounter obstacles and very scary people set against this bleak landscape, which is captured very well by the camera. I felt the desperation and admired the toughness of the girl as she remained her families only hope in this desperate situation.

To each his own though.

KT

I'm with you. I am still inclined to consider Winter's Bone my favorite film of 2010.

Let Me In - 7.5/10 - Nearly a shot-for-shot English remake of Let the Right One In, which is a contender for my favorite vampire movie of all time. Chloe Moretz and Kodi Smit-McPhee are more than passable in this one, but I still felt like some of the power of the original was lost in the translation. I suppose my biggest complaint is that Chloe Moretz's Abby came across as too pouty, uncertain, and downtrodden, whereas Lina Leandersson's Eli was more confident -- or at least resigned instead of morose -- which created a different dynamic with their respective male leads. I also didn't like that they removed a somewhat shocking expository scene near the end, probably due to censorship pressure.

The Town - 8/10 - Heat for a new generation. Boston is clearly Ben Affleck's muse. I agree with others that Jon Hamm was cardboard in this -- perhaps not his fault -- and Jeremy Renner continues to be a scene-stealer.

The Social Network - 8/10 - Not much to add to other reviews. Surprisingly great considering the subject matter. I've liked Eisenberg since The Squid and the Whale, despite others calling him out as a lite version of Michael Cera, and I felt like he really nailed this role.

The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus
6/10 - Initially i was like WTH is this, but after awhile, it's kind of entertaining. The story do get abit slow in the middle. Heath Ledger was about 30% from the total of the movie, he passed away during the filming of this movie and the scenes were replaced by other actors. Ending could be better, but it was okay. Okay movie, I would recommend for passing time.

The Crazies
8/10 - i really like zombie movie and this one looks like a champ. It follows a story of a contaminated water that infect people. Timothy Olyphant and Radha Mitchell starred in this one, acting is great. Would recommend this movie for zombies lovers out there. Watched it with speaker turned all the way up and lights turned off, a few jumps off my seat and was at the edge of my seat the entire time.

Rec - Original Movie
7.5/10 - The original movie in Spanish and subtitled in English. I watched "Quarantine" which is the remake by U.S and after watching REC, i like REC better because it's the original and the story is clearer than the remake. Very nicely paced movie with fast panic WTH moments, and lets assessed the situation moment. Some moments are predictable, but some scenes are jumpy. To me, the camera is ok, not too much to create headache but i am used to play FPS game. Recommended and the sound is awesome, including the chilling screams throughout the film.

Descent 2
6/10 - Did not watch the original Descent, but Descent 2 follows the story of one of the girl that was able to free herself and went to the surface. But the stupid authority wanted to look for the other survivors and went back down...ughhh...Ok effects, ok acting, very gorey, ok for passing time.

I watched that over the weekend too think I'd give it more of a 4/10. The first one was pretty good but the second was just stupid.

I realized the other day that I had never seen Wild Things... you know, that movie that when you were a teen (if you are my age), you drooled over the trailers? I have to say, this movie definitely loses points for pulling you in with a not-so-clothed Denise Richards to only show you maybe 15-20 seconds... it's like blue-balls on a disc!

As for the actual movie, I thought
the big turn near the middle was a little surprising... mostly since it just kept getting crazier and crazier.
They also kept playing that one song throughout the entire movie... I guess they didn't feel like paying the composer much money .

When you watched it you also watched about 1/3 of the first movie through the flashbacks.

After Innocence - 7/10
A documentary about men who have been exonerated of serious crimes after spending many years in prison, and how their lives are afterwards. It was released in 2005 but feels older.

It in an amazing topic, and most of the film is extremely interesting. The documentary isn't that well made though, and some of it does get a bit boring at times. But the strength of the overall message and how awful the system can be is amazing.

Young & Handsome: Evening with Jeff Garlin - 7/10
Stand up of Jeff Garlin in Chicago. Me and my girlfriend both thought it was very funny for the most part. Story-telling style of jokes, so if that's your thing, watch this one

Blade Runner - The Final Cut - 7.5/10
This was my first time watching any edit of this movie. 1982! Mannnnnn, this must have BLOWN some serious minds back then, although this version was touched up, so I guess it wasn't quite as good back then. Still, the visuals of this movie were great.

The plot was good, but I've been told a lot if left out from the book, and I did get a bit confused here and there. I also felt the age to it. It also seemed like it was straddling a line between serious movie and campy, and never really chose a side.

Edward James Olmos, woah. Probably wouldn't have realized it was him if I didn't see his name in the opening. And Sean Young and Daryl Hannah...mmmmmmm

Despicable Me: 9/10
Loved it. Kids loved it. Really though, there are very few (big budget) animated movies that miss the mark (though I am looking at you Shrek 2, 3 and 4). There was something about this movie that was just "right" I think the little minions were a brilliant touch and well done. Steve Carrell does a good job voicing Gru too I thought.

Chugyeogja (The Chaser) - 9/10
"Joong-ho is a dirty detective turned pimp in financial trouble as several of his girls have recently disappeared without clearing their debts. While trying to track them down, he finds a clue"

What a fucking gem. Netflix knew I was going to love this movie, and did I ever.

Intense and thrilling, all the way through. Korean movie, I'll add to this review tomorrow

Hereafter: 10/10

Pretty much perfect. Acting is... frankly I'm surprised the actors are acting in the first place it's so real. It's kinda weird in the sense that there's no real beginning, middle, and end, just one long middle. Normally a movie made like this would suck but it flows so nicely and given the incredible acting it manages to suck you in. It also addressed it's subject matter (life after death, or not?) in a rational way, not taking it to any mystical or religious extremes. In fact it unapologetically portrays more than a few of these extremes as crackpots, which I liked.

All in all, Clint Eastwood just put another movie in my top 10. I'd even be tempted to say top 5. Easily his best work as a director IMO, even over Million Dollar Baby.

When it came out it was something that was a new idea. The whole hand held cam thing. It was unique, but beyond that it was pretty stupid and it amazes to this daythat anyone rents it.

Even though it's not real. The actors were not informed as to what was happening to them... a lot of the reactions were very much real.

A Tale of Two Sisters - 8/10. This movie was genuinely creepy and especially deep for a horror movie. I haven't seen the American remake but this was a great watch.
