Never seen even 1 episode of Lost. However I've heard bits and pieces about what the show is about and how things changed through the seasons. Isn't this show an epic example of jumping the shark? Doesn't the show at some point just fall off a cliff in terms of where the plot goes?

The writers knew the entire story arc from the get go. It's just that the beginning was way better than the end. I wish I stopped watching after season 2.

The Lost community is divided. People either hated how it ended or loved it. Not much of a grey are a and the split is probably 50/50. The thing is, anyone that has watched it all should just admit that the first fews seasons were the best ones.

Both available on Netflix streaming.

Jesus Camp - 5/10 - Not sure how to rate this documentary. So 5/10 it is. It is a documentary about evangelical Christians. All I have to say is WOW! Those people are a bit crazy. Sadly, what can be best understood is how such levels of indoctrination can lead a Muslim to blowing himself up as a martyr and this movie is not even about Muslim terrorists. What some people do to their children is simply astounding, sad and pathetic all at once. Oh, I should add that a large focus of this movie is on children and their indoctrination.

Fela Kuti: Music Is the Weapon - ?/10 - I have to watch this one again. I had it on in the background as I was getting some work done so I didn't really watch it. As documentaries go though, it really did seem to be an eye opener. To those that know who Fela is, it is a must see. For those that do not know him or his music, go to Wikipedia and read a little. If his Wikipedia write up sparks an interest, I definitely think you would like this movie. Note, there is some violence in it (low quality film of police brutality/execution)

Black Swan - 7.5/10
I thought it was good, but not great. The story was interesting and the acting was good but I didn't love some of the "transformation." Vincent Cassel was great as Thomas.

Crazy Love - 8.5/10
Love is a subjective word, but crazy, hell yes.

"This documentary from director Dan Klores chronicles the disturbing true story of an obsessive relationship gone awry in 1950s New York between Burt Pugach, a married lawyer, and his twentysomething mistress, Linda Riss. In a shocking reversal of the traditional "woman scorned" formula, it was Pugach who came unglued when Riss broke up with him -- and the subsequent fallout made headlines across the country."

I have not been alive nearly long enough to remember this, and I suppose for most here that is the case, so I had no knowledge of these people. I added this to my netflix instant streaming queue a few weeks ago and last night told my gf to pick something from my list of 90 choices. This is what she chose.

The movie started quite slow, telling the story of how these two people met. Burt was a wealthy lawyer, Linda was living with her family, they met in NYC, etc etc. I don't want to give anything away but eventually the story picks up and I was glued for the rest of the documentary. It's a fascinating look at human nature and you get a sense of why people do things in life, as crazy as they may seem.

A bunch of the rotten tomatoe critics got it right, you can't make this stuff up.

Heh, I bought this DVD used for like $2.00 about a year ago and have never gotten around to watching it. I'll have to move it up my list as I have only heard good things.

only 7 huh?
Bummer, I had very high hopes/aspirations for this movie. 7 only gets a rental from me. Not a theater visit

A 7 is not a negative review by any means. It seems like a lot of people here use a 1-10 rating scale, but really treat 5 as the starting point and anything less than an 8 barely worth watching. If I were using a 5-point scale, I might round up for The Fighter. On a thumbs-up/thumbs-down basis, it's even easier.

True Grit - 7.5/10 - Reviews of high-profile films feel trite to write, so I won't delve deeply. I liked True Grit very much, and Rooster Cogburn can be added to the list of recent great performances by Jeff Bridges. As others have said, this straight-shooter of a film is a departure for the Coen Brothers, and as such may lack some of the zest of their more fringy outings, but it's a solid, enjoyable tale.

District 9 - 7.5/10. This was my second viewing of the movie. The first time, I came in 1/4 way in and didn't understand what the fuck was going on. Nice setup for a sequel. Exploding bodies = cool.

Up : 9/10

This is the first time I've seen the movie even though I've had it for almost a year. Never got around to watching it until today. My 3 year old daughter and I are home while my wife is at work.

I knew going into the movie that there some tearjerker moments...but good golly I wasn't expecting the emotional bludgeoning that this movie provided. It has to break some sort of code of reality that a cartoon(ok...animated picture) can provoke this strong of an emotional response.

I smiled...I nearly cried...I laughed...I balled. I nearly cried again.

What made this even harder for me was trying to explain some things to my daughter. She understands "Mommy" and "Daddy" but husband and wife are still kinda vague to her. She thought Carl was sad because he lost his Mommy and I was trying to explain the difference between Mommy and wife...and just couldn't do it.

Certainly a different direction for Pixar. They almost need to open two studio lines...one for the adult aimed drama that's kid friendly and the more true kids oriented stuff that's more slapstick and lighthearted.

The only reason I didn't give the movie a 10 was because I was still so beat up from certain scenes that even the intentional "pick you up" action and humor couldn't do it.

:awe:

lol I've always wanted to see this movie just because of Bowie. I'll still see it though even though I've heard it's not that good.

Ugh I watched The Hunger because of David Bowie & Susan Sarandon being in it. It was just bland. I don't know I couldn't get into it.

The American - 4/10 - Ugh, so slow and boring (except for the few action scenes)

The Road - 7/10 - I thought it was pretty interesting.

Youth in Revolt - 3/10 - ugh...another movie where Michael Cera plays the same character. Not even very funny, juts pathetic.

Cats and Dogs: Revenge of Kitty Galore - 5/10 - Watched this with my niece and nephew. It was actually pretty funny. Standard goofy kid's fare though.

I call BS on that part. That might have been true in the beginning and for awhile but the show completely changed after a certain season.

I think Up is a little overrated too. I really like it, but I don't see how adults can enjoy anything after the phenomenal first act. Most Pixar movies can be enjoyed by adults through the entire movie.

9.5/10 - Inception - That was quite a ride. Very original, at least from my experience, lot of character development and suspense. Excellent cast (Ellen Page is cute), surprised to see so many people from Batman Begins (yes, I know they're both by Nolan). Haven't seen many movies this year, but this is the best of the 2010 line up I've seen.

Presumably you are speaking of Inception?

Anyone who doesn't cry at the scene when:
(1) Ellie dies or
(2) The final shot shows the house at the Falls

Has no emotion!

Well then apparently I have no emotion. Extremely overrated movie.

I think the writers had an overall IDEA bible of where they wanted to go... but put waaaaaay too much in some episodes that they woulda needed 7 more seasons to wrap everything up neatly.

i also think the fans turned alot of stuff that shouldn't have been important, into a must know plot point.

Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day - 5.8/10 - Not a worthy sequel. I actually found the plot interesting, but was turned off by the acting, montages, dialog, etc. <-- Disappointed Boondock Saints fan

did ANYONE like The American? All I see are bad comments but I still want to see it

I liked it. Somewhat clichéd in parts and yeah, pretty slow overall with long pieces with minimal dialogue, but it looked fantastic and I liked many of the intimate scenes (there is a scene where Clooney is building a gun and ammunition that was just a beautiful piece of cinema). This film was very badly misrepresented in the advertising.
