Short Circuit - 3/10

There are a lot of campy comedy movies from the 80's out there and since it had Mahoney and Harris in it I thought it would have the same feel of comedy as the Police Academy series. It didn't. Oh well, now I might have to get Short Circuit 2, just for Los Locos!

Nothing I have watched in the last 10 years comes close to how funny that movie was 10/10, this is a must see.

Capturing The Friedmans - 9/10:

^^^ Deftly done and absolutely absorbing from beginning to end. What a documentary should be -- not telling, but showing.

The Sunset Limited -- 9./10:
David Mamet, say no more.

The entire movie plays out in one bare room with just Tommy Lee Jones and Samuel L. Jackson playing two never named characters privileged to deliver Mamet's dialog.

I think that even the many of you here who couldn't or wouldn't hang with most of it would be absolutely mesmerized by the last 15 minutes.

Watched Unstoppable tonight. I'd give it a 7/10. Decent popcorn movie, though it really streched my suspension of disbelief at times.

Capturing The Friedmans - 9/10: Fascinating documentary about a seemingly normal, relatively well-off Jewish family in New York that gets split apart when the Father and yougest son are accused of molesting children. This is definitely one of those docs, similar to the Staircase, where you are presented with all of the information and interviews on both side of the case and are left to your own decision as to what really happened. I won't say too much in case you end up watching this, but I find this stuff fascinating and it is presented very well here. Definitely a creepy and disturbing topic, but a great documentary nonetheless.

KT

just watched this last night after reading your review.... definetly an amazing documentary with all the actual footage they had...very unsettling though, creepy on a whole different level...

I watched the first two Godfather movies back to back on Sunday. The first I give 10/10... well maybe 9/10 as they tricked me. Michael's second wife was only 16 irl when they shot her nude scene.

Number two (teehee I said number two) I give it an 9/10.

Short Circuit - 3/10

With all the remakes being done recently I hope they redo Short Circuit. I loved that little guy.

MORE INPUT!!! MORE INPUT!!! :awe:

Sounds right up my alley, but I see no mention of Mamet on the IMDB page. Looks like it's Cormac McCarthy, which is certainly not a bad thing. Either way I'll have to check it out.

Eek and Oopsie! I must have just seen an incredibly dialog-centric, play-like production and it automatically triggered the David Mamet center in my brain.

Haha, no worries. If it made you think of Mamet, that is definitely a good sign!

Fido - 7/10: A Canadian film set in a quaint 50's town in an alternate world where a zombie apocalypse came, but was quelled, for the most part, when scientists created a collar that could keep the zombies in check as long as it stayed on, so the zombies become servants around the town. I thought this was pretty cute; it's essentially a boy and his dog movie, like Lassie but with more killing. Carrie-ann Moss was great as the Mom and Billy Connelly was good as Fido, so overall a fun little movie. It's not amazing, but I chuckled in a few parts and thought it was cute, clever little film.

127 Hours - 9/10: Holy smokes! Good movie, but damn almost too intense. I had dreams about it. Similar to something like Schindler's List in that it's something everyone should see, but not something anyone would want to see again. I guess that's probably a pretty relative evaluation; I can't really speak for everyone... I just got so emotionally involved that I was really glad when it was over. I identified a lot with
Aaron's evaluation of his own life, as he's sitting there staring death in the face flashing back to memories from his past.
Rarely do you get to, or even consider, what it'd be like writing your own eulogy, and I sure as hell mentally did that as I watched this.

James Franco blew me away. Absolutely phenomenal acting.

Edge Of Darkness - 7/10: Much better than I expected based on the reviews and comments I had seen around. An overall pretty decent revenge-thriller, though it did lack much of the suspense that generally comes with these types of films since you essentially know what is going to happen from pretty early on. However I enjoyed the overall ride and in-particular I enjoyed Gibson and Ray Winstone, who was really the best thing in the film. I did not really like how they represented Gibson's grief with all of the interactions with a vision of his daughter, definitely could have done without that, but the rest of the film was not bad.
There is one death, where the girl gets it by a car that was freaking awesome; completely got me off guard. May have been my favourite scene in the movie
