Rabbit Hole - 6/10: Pretty disappointed with this. The acting was good (Kidman, who is nominated, but Eckhart in-particular who plays the husband) but something about it just did not resonate with me. I really liked the scenes with Kidman and the teenage kid, those were really touching and well done, but much of the rest left me kind of flat and even felt a bit paint by numbers in parts. Maybe my expectations were too high.
Robinson Crusoe on Mars - 8/10: 1964 film that is pretty much a straight sci-fi telling of the Robinson Crusoe story...on Mars. I had a lot of fun with this one, particularly the first half of the film where it is only one guy and a monkey (Mona the monkey was freaking awesome) trying to figure out how to survive on Mars. Eventually things happen and they encounter some different things (won't spoil exactly what happens, but if you've read the original novel, you have a good idea of what happens) but it's really the first half of the film with Kit and Mona that makes the film. Of course the effects are pretty dated, but some of the scenery and cinematography was very well done. Cool, campy fun.
The Naked Kiss - 7/10: Samuel Fuller's 1964 film about a prostitute that moves to a small town and ends up finding a new life, but can't escape some of her troubled past. Has an awesome opening scene before the credits, but then it slows to a crawl for a solid 30 minutes or so, with occasional bright spots; however the last half hour is just awesome. I swear my rating for this went up and down as I watched due to some weird acting choices, dodgy editing, and the aforementioned slow parts, but by the end I was pretty well sold. There is a very creepy musical piece about two-thirds of the way through the film that was odd, but extremely effective. Not great, but good.
