I don't know who any of those people are that you mentioned but I really liked Fear and Loathing.

Hunter S Thomspon? Cult gonzo journalist? the only writer of merit to give Rolling Stone serviceable print? Hell's Angles? etc etc...

The main fucking character in the film? --the writer of the book upon which the film is based?

Johnny fucking Depp?

I don't think you watched the same movie.

Cube - 1/10 - An apparent cult classic. It had it's positives but when the movie ended I was pretty pissed off.
So, everyone is in this cube and the thing that pisses me off ... the spoiler .... is that they never tell you who made the damned thing and the concolusion just left me confused.
If it wern't for that, I'd give it a solid 4/10 or more depending on how things would be different. Sadly, it was good enough to see the sequels which I have been told have the same flaw. But I am kinda curious.

Saw Cube 2 Hypercube last night - 4/10 - Suprisingly, I thought it was much better than the first. Not that it was hard to be better. The reason I liked it more is because the very thing that Cube 1 left out (see spoiler above) was in Cube 2. The thing is, it was another example of great concept, poor execution. Also, I seemed to care less for the characters in Cube 2. Atleast in Cube 1 I wanted them to make it.
The thing is, the cubes in 1 and 2 are different. Knowing what the second iteration of the cube was for, the purpose of the first cube is totally lacking assuming the same people(gov't, gov't contractor) made it.

So, I'd say that you have to see Cube 1, jsut to see Cube 2. I have no regrets seeing either. Won't be seeing them again though.

There's Cube Zero also

I enjoyed them enough to watch.

Death Note the film: 8/10 really enjoyed it. I was a big fan of the anime series. Actually need to finish off where I left off! I can't remember the last episode I saw.

Fame: 7/10 enjoyable enough. New update of an old film that I never saw. I found the short girl really f0cking cute man!

The Ruin: 6/10 some unsettling scenes, overall not that great.

Rented George Clooney's "The American" last night. What an absolutely BORING movie. As others have said, basically two hours of nothing...with the highlights of the whole movie being the few minutes where he was banging the prostitute. She had nice tits.
Otherwise...the movie was a waste of production, advertising, and my time & money. (glad it was only $1 at RedBox.)

I don't remember the character names since I saw it some years ago but I know I liked it.

Agree. When I checked it out. It seemed to drag.....

I mean maybe you have to be in the right mood to watch it? Or watch it of a daytime? LOL.

Rabbit Hole - 6/10: Pretty disappointed with this. The acting was good (Kidman, who is nominated, but Eckhart in-particular who plays the husband) but something about it just did not resonate with me. I really liked the scenes with Kidman and the teenage kid, those were really touching and well done, but much of the rest left me kind of flat and even felt a bit paint by numbers in parts. Maybe my expectations were too high.

Robinson Crusoe on Mars - 8/10: 1964 film that is pretty much a straight sci-fi telling of the Robinson Crusoe story...on Mars. I had a lot of fun with this one, particularly the first half of the film where it is only one guy and a monkey (Mona the monkey was freaking awesome) trying to figure out how to survive on Mars. Eventually things happen and they encounter some different things (won't spoil exactly what happens, but if you've read the original novel, you have a good idea of what happens) but it's really the first half of the film with Kit and Mona that makes the film. Of course the effects are pretty dated, but some of the scenery and cinematography was very well done. Cool, campy fun.

The Naked Kiss - 7/10: Samuel Fuller's 1964 film about a prostitute that moves to a small town and ends up finding a new life, but can't escape some of her troubled past. Has an awesome opening scene before the credits, but then it slows to a crawl for a solid 30 minutes or so, with occasional bright spots; however the last half hour is just awesome. I swear my rating for this went up and down as I watched due to some weird acting choices, dodgy editing, and the aforementioned slow parts, but by the end I was pretty well sold. There is a very creepy musical piece about two-thirds of the way through the film that was odd, but extremely effective. Not great, but good.

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo - 8/10
and
The Girl Who Played with Fire - 7/10

Both were good. They seemed were low budget and subtitled.

I really liked them.

The Aryan Couple - 8/10 - It's about a Jewish couple who pretend to be Aryan as they are part of the Resistance. They are servants for a prominent and wealthy Jewish family that makes a deal with Himmler so that if they give the Nazi's control of all their wealth they will be allowed safe passage to Switzerland.

The movie is very well done, the sets are marvelous and the acting is top notch.

I actually quite enjoyed "The American". It helped reading the negative opinions about it being slow so my expectations were tamed. Previews would lead you to believe that it was a fast paced shoot 'em up. But it wasn't that at all.

It was a intentionally paced look into the psyche of a professional killer on the wane of his career who just wants to let his guard down and have a "normal" life. And yes, the Italian hooker has a 10/10 rack helping things out occasionally too.

I Am Number Four (2011) - 6.5/10.
I saw it in IMAX on Friday night. It was a flip of a coin between that and Just Go With It. I hadn't even heard of the movie prior to seeing it and it turned out to be pretty good. It could have used a little more action and a little less high school drama, but I figure I they were probably after some of the Twilight crowd too.

Session 9 - 8/10 - Surprisingly good flick. A group of asbestos removers working at a former mental institution. Everything is going fine until something mysterious starts to unfold. Wonderful setting, unconventional storyline and good acting. I loved it.

The Losers (6/10) - It's it's pretty basic storyline that we've seen in other movies (government agents get betrayed and burnt during an op and now they are trying to get revenge). Characters are flat and the movie assumes that the audience already knows what these people are about, so it doesn't have to waste time developing characters that we already know and have seen. Good action scenes, generally an enjoyable movie.

I tried watching fear and loathing in las vegas last night. I made it through about 20 minutes before I turned it off. I must be missing something because it was painful to watch, I couldn't stand it

Haha, I can understand that.

I guess you just have to be ready to watch a 2 hour movie about people fucked up on hallucinogens.

It's high on the list of dumb fun action movies I've watched recently. A step below Red but about the same or a little more fun than The Expendables.

All of which were much better than Salt.

totally disagree. I dug this, but in a similar light, I was left feeling at the end...eh, what's the point?

Saw 3 movies over the long 3 days President weekend.

1. The Eagle - 5.5/10. Not really action or buddy or drama movie or anything. Not sure how historic accurate it was.

2. The King's speech - 8.5/10. Very good acting. Hard to understand British accents and why they called studer as something else?

3. I Am Number 4 - 7/10. Some niffty fighting action sequences and the Number Six babe was so hot with her body and movements -especially inside the HS fight (not as cute face and bad hair IMO). And why #5 did not show up and help but her? (must be kill in order).

I watched a very interesting documentary last night

The Fall of Fujimori - 9.5/10
This movie made me think, and I'm still thinking about it. This is about the incredible story of Alberto Fujimori, President of Peru from 1990 until 2000 when he faces a corruption scandal. I'm 23 years old and I don't recall hearing anything about this guy or anything to do with the situation, so watching documentaries like this are mindblowing. Trying to imagine some of these events occuring are amazing, and it reminds you of how different the third world is, even in very recent times, and still today.

The documentary tells the story of the rise and fall of Fujimori, starting briefly with his entrance into politics and his campaign for the presidency, up unto the collapse of his power and a short aftermath(More has happened since the documentary was released in 2006).

I won't ramble with what I personally got out of the movie, but I really enjoyed it

Despicable Me - 4/5 - i rented this for my kids, and i think i enjoyed it more than they did. i generally dislike steve carell in anything outside of the the office, but this was pretty good. of course, voice acting is probably easier than live acting.

True Grit - 8/10 Jeff Bridges on top form as usual, fantastic performances all round, great script from the Coen Brothers as usual, if it lacked anything I would say the depth of some other Coen Brothers films.

The Kings Speech - 9/10 One of the best films I've seen in a long time, a winning performance from Colin Firth if you ask me, also a peek into one of my favourite periods of English history, although not 100% historically accurate.

Paul - 7.5/10 Good fun all round, Simon Pegg and Nick Frost amazing chemistry as normal. But I felt it missed a certain something that would have made it wright.

Good call! Great Set, absolutely, loved the atmosphere even if the story wasn't 100%
