I Am Comic (7/10) - documentary about the life of comics on the road. I watch and listen to a lot of standup so I thought it was interesting. My only gripes are that I feel like they tried to cover too much and incorporate too many comics and the guy who is doing the documentary is a retired comic who decides to get back into it, so they spend a bunch of time dealing with his shit and kind of lost me.

edit:

almost forgot, also watched

Robin Hood (6/10) - The movie was entertaining enough, I just happened the actions of Robin Hood and Marian toward the end of the movie to be kind of unbelievable, considering their actions and motives for the first half...

Adjustment Bureau (7/10): See my thread here. I still enjoyed it because of the good chemistry between Damon and Blunt. It could've been sooooo much more SO easily though...

King's Speech (8/10): A good heart warmer. Little bit slow at times. Great acting and it's good to see that chick from Fight Club/Big Fish/etc finally getting some recognition.

Toy Story 3 (8/10): Solid. You can never doubt Pixar for any sequels. I think it's about equal to TS1. Toy Story 2 is the best with a decent plot and absolute comic hilarity.

I Saw the Devil (6.5/10): Too many plot holes for me to take it seriously. I liked the titties and violence. That guy from the Old Boy is superb as always, rest is bleh. Let me know if you want me to mention the plot holes that bothered the shit out of me, effectively ruining the movie. Forgettable movie.

Paranormal Activity 1 (7/10): A decent thriller/horror flick. I LOVE these 'Asian style' anticipation-horror which proves to be far more scary than typical American stupid gore shit like Saw. I won't see 2, I hear it's a rehashed trash.

Black Swan (8.5/10): Aronofsky hits hard again since his masterpiece Requiem for a Dream. It ticks me off how ignorant boys think this is chick's flick. Think again. It's Aronofsky for god's sake.

True Grit (6/10): Okay, WTF did I see here that was SO GREAT? The plot is boring. There is no big heart-felt dramatic moment nor did it have action. It's bland all around.

The Social Network (8/10): I knew it wouldn't be a teeny shit considering the director. The tone was serious and dark enough. I enjoyed it thoroughly.

Another movie I forgot that I watched

The Wolfman (5/10) - Benicio Del Toro and Anthony Hopkins, the movie has to be awesome, right? ugh. So, where to begin... the storyline is predictable and the werewolves look like teen wolf. I wouldn't recommend watching this one.

Let Me in - 9/10: I'm a huge, huge fan of Let The Right One In and think it is close to a perfect horror film, but this American remake is not that far behind. A stunning film to look at, I think Reeves and his DP do amazing things with the camera that add to the overall feel of the film; it truly does look great. However, I think the greatest strength of the film is the two kids; Moretz is amazing (again, since she absolutely made Kick-Ass) as Abby and McPhee redeems himself here as Owen (I hated him in The Road). For some reason the relationship between the two of them resonated even more with me in this film compared to the original; very well done and touching. extreely well done. That said I still prefer the original due to a few things:

1. The opening sequence in Let Me In is extremely weak and completely unneccesary and ineffective. LTROI's way of bringing you into the world at the beginning of the film is far, far better.

2. The demonization of Abby when she is feasting. While we see Eli, in the original, become animal-like when she feeds or is defending herself, she never turns into an otherworldy creature, which happens here. Doing that removes some of the mystery, and even more importantlythe humanity of Abby. Poor choice in my opinion.

3. The allusions to Abby's castration or whatever happened to her (I believe he/she was castrated in the book, with an entire sequence describing it). I understand they will never show that scene in the American film, but that scene had such impact in the original, it was consipicuous by its absence here.

Anyway, overall I was very thoroughly impressed (that scene in the car was fantastic too; what a great shot). I own both now and could see myself watching either this or the original and being very happy.

KT

I view the demon faced effects being comical more than adding to the narrative. Hollywood simply does not get it sometimes.
This is probably the one thing that puts Let the Right One In way on top of Let Me In. Let The Right One In does not resort to such nonsense and does not need to.

I was amazed at how similar some scenes were in both movies. The Hollywood version almost seemed like a remake of Let The Right One In but spoken in English.

How could you say such bad things about Anandtech Moderator! BAN!

Anyway, I had high hopes for Extract and finally saw it last night. Felt like a very incomplete movie with a lot of potential that wasn't cashed in on. I love Mike Judge and I thought he did a good job picking characters here but so much of what happened felt pointless. The talkative neighbor was great and J.K. Simmons is always funny, Jason Bateman did a good job too and Mila Kunis is just hot. All that being said, 4 out of 10.

Just watched Moon. Saw it was reviewed earlier in this thread and people liked it. Definitely a worthwhile movie to watch. Sam Rockwell was outstanding in it and for a production cost of about $5 million the special effects was really well done (at least that's the cost I read somewhere). Really enjoyed the movie. 9/10

Yup, pretty much 100% agreed.

They did a really good job with Let Me In; i was very impressed actually.
But it was missing a few parts of the original, parts that made it so good, which you pointed out.

The Expendables - 1/10

Just a cash in on the collaboration of all the action movie stars. The script/dialogue was atrocious and all these guys pretty much mailed it in. Especially Dolph Lundren who I felt was mumbling through his lines because he probably didn't care enough to memorize the script. Even the action scenes fell flat. What a waste of my time.

The Brown Bunny - 2/10: Vincent Gallo's second film and wow, what a freaking letdown after the awesomeness of Buffalo '66. All of the fun and sentiment from '66 is removed and replaced with a cock. Gallo has none of the charisma that he had in his first film and even the filmmaking itself was far worse; tonnes of long, dialogue-free shots and ridiculous encounters with various women that add nothing, plus the parts that do have dialogue...well the writing was not very good. Not sure what the point of this film really was to be honest. So letdown by this.

A shame it did not perform better; I guess a horror film with kids is a tough sell. Moretz sure had two pretty awesome roles last year. She's a force!

The Quiet Earth - 6/10 - Just OK. Didn't like Api's actor/character. I enjoyed the environment, desolation, and even the 'explanation' and
ambiguous ending
. I think they dropped the ball on the character interaction though. The interactions were too irrational, and inconsistent. Example, when they first
meet Api, he ambushes Zac, and holds him at gunpoint up until they meet the girl, and then they all hug? The way I see it he should have either 1) killed the guy, stolen his stuff and taken the girl or 2) been excited to meet another human and anxious to pool resources for survival. I didnt like the mix, especially because it continues to vacillate between support and animosity. Furthermore, the girls emotions aren't consistent either, bouncing from guy to guy, just not sensible.
. At this point the film is 25+ years old, so I suspect I am probably missing out on some of the experience seeing it now instead of then. Not absolute crap, but I was disappointed.

Yea I don't know why it was praised as being Oscar worthy. It wasn't that good.

I'm surprised you even gave it a 5. I thought it was one of the worst movies I've ever seen. Even the wolf make-up sucked.

Tron Legacy (8/10) - much better than expected! and kudos to daft punk for the great soundtrack

I didn't really like the movie. I thought it was meh. The storyline I thought was bad.

Been in my Netflix queue for a long time. Maybe it's time to watch it. Saw maybe the first 5 minutes and it seemed to be well done from that impression.

I like it quite a bit. I've probably seen it around 5 times now with at least two of those times in the theatre. Quality flick.

I never even knew it came out in theatres. You saw it and said you liked it so I caught it on HBO or one of those channels. I really enjoyed it too.

Unfortunately it had a very short run as I recall, but it was one of those ones I saw by myself then dragged a bunch of friends to the theatre to see it because I liked it so much.

Sherlock Holmes - 7.5/10: There's a lot I liked about this movie, and if you would've asked me maybe 30 minutes in, I would've told you this is looking like a definite 9/10...but something happened @ about the midway point and I just started getting irritated with it. I think more than anything it was my inability to reconcile details of the plot; defining it as either fantasy or reality wasn't really possible until the end.
Is Blackwood undead? I just didn't buy it and I didn't like my mind playing with the ambiguity of the whole thing.

I was happily surprised when all the questions are answered at the end, and I should've expected as much, having read a few Holmes stories in college.

Overall I liked it much more than I thought I would.

Passchaendale (Sp?) - 7/10 - It was hyped up as a war movie, which it is, but it's really a romance movie set during World War I with some battle scenes. Kind of like Pearl Harbour, except Paul Gross and the nurse work together pretty well. Never seen the first hour or two of Pearl Harbour, so can't say how well Ben Affleck and Kate Beckinsale worked out. Battle effects for explosions were a bit overdone, lot of people being too bouncy, and they always danced in the air a bit too much. Overall, it was ok.

just watched Daybreakers. 7/10 wasn't to bad of a movie. could have been better, but enjoyable. I also just watched The Trashmaker, some machinima movie made in GTA4. It runs like 90 minutes and it was pretty impressive imo. Worth watching if you want to see something outside the norm.

True Grit - 5/10. Felt like the first one with John Wayne was a lot better. It just felt like there were too many long drawn-out sequences without action.

Adjustment Bureau - 8/10.

Hall Pass - 3/10. It did have some really hilarious parts if you have a teenagers' sense of humor.
