I guess I'm gonna have to order one at these prices... I figure for $118 I'm getting 12x recording 10x rewriting, quite an upgrade from my HP8100 4x/2x/24x.

Burnproof really isn't the bottomline for most people when buying a writer because I'm sure the majority of us use disposable CrapUSA CDR's in which messing one up has no real consequences.. but Burnproof is very nice if you value your Taiyo's!

I had a Lite-On CD-ROM drive. It was funny cuz all my friends and I thought it was called Lite-On cuz the light was always on, no matter what (unless the computer was off, of course). In other words, the drive was a piece of crap. I strongly suggest that no one buys any of their products voluntarily.

Ha, I thought the same about Lite-On about the light being on. The LiteOns are in these new Dell machines at work we got recently, loud as hell and haven't had a problem yet.

I have read that their cdrom's are crap. However, I have not read a single negative comment about their CDRW's yet. This may be in part that they buy their parts from sanyo, (because the drive has BurnProof), so the internal parts are going to have the "same" standards as the Plextor (they also use Sanyo parts inside).

Maybe just the burn proof parts are from Sanyo since it is Sanyo technology, but the rest are still crap?

So, what's the verdict with the Lite-On... is it Lights-Out or Right-On?? Anyone that has this drive, please give some feedback.

NotAClue,
Didn't you read the PM that I sent you. Read my message above, and it is linked to that of ForeverSilky's and Leebear's comments. They both have the drive, and they both say it rocks! Try reading the entire thread before you ask questions. I will link it again, here.

I'm sick of people badmouthing this awesome drive without even trying it. I have this drive and it's rock solid! It is compatible with clonecd and has burn-proof. Hell they may make crappy cdroms but their are other companies that make great cdrw's but crappy cdroms but that's not what we're talking about. I'd gladly put this up against anyone's overpriced plextor. Anyone that's in need of a new cdrw and passes this deal up is insane. There are others on this board that own this drive.

More like direct hit.

Thanks foreversilky,
Some people can't read through the entire thread... or even click on a link.... .
I'm actually thinking about picking up this drive, and selling my Plextor 8/4/32. I can get the Lite-On for about $118, and sell my Plextor for about $125 ( on the for sale/trade forum) ($4 for shipping).... so I can make a profit of $3 to go up to 12/10/32 and BurnProof. ...

arod324,
Sure. But since you are having a memory relapse, here is the email that you sent me.

['t b]read leebear's and foreversilky's comments on this page......
they seem really postive...... I have not found a negative comment about the
CDRW's.. but have heard a lot of bad info about the cdroms... I'm thinking
it is a very good CRDRW, but haven't bought it yet..[/b]

Hey, I didn't realize this was your messageboard?? I read all of the threads on the Lite-On CDRW. I also read some threads on the Plextor and the Teac. If you would have read the threads on those drives, you could easily see that there are many more than two recommendations for the Plextor & Teac. Sorry, but it's not that easy to base my buying decision on the recommendations of only two people. Seeing that you haven't bought one yet, that indicates to me that you are unsure also.

ForeverSilky,
I'm not bad mouthing their drive. Don't take it as though I insulted you personally. I am simply trying to make an educated buying decision. I can find reviews on the Teac & Plextor, but I cannot find anything on the Lite-On, other than their website. That makes it harder to decide to buy, and I have to rely primarily on people's reviews/ratings. It seems like an incredible burner for the price. Somehow, I bet I'm not the only one that is seriously considering on purchasing the Lite-On. But, I'm also sure that I am not the only one questioning it either.

I didn't take it personally at all. I'm just getting tired of hearing "plextor is the best you should get nothing else." Lite-on is pretty new in the cdrw industry which is why I think people are kind of scared to get one, but they make excellent cdrw drives as I've stated before. If Lite-on keeps making top notch drives for clearance prices they're going to get a very good reputation, it's just a matter of time. I urge you to get this drive; I guarentee you won't be dissappointed.

ForeverSilky,
Do you know if there is any possibility that the Lite-On would be able to be flashed to Plextor's 1.07 or 1.08 firmware?

No, they are not made by plextor. Lite-on manufactures their own drives. I don't see why you'd go through the hassle since it has all the features of the plextors.
