People who think there going to get a $250 Plextor for $99 are sadly mistaken. The Plextor line is grade A+, anything they build for other companies is most likely there grade B stock.

I can't imagine the rebadged Iomega is the same as the Plextor main line.

Just got this two days ago...installed fine, works great, OEM version comes with CD Creator's latest (not 5.0, rather 4.xe something or other). No complaints yet, and it even extracts at a similar speed to my SCSI 40x Plextor, (but just takes up more resources). Coming from a SCSI 2x Philips burner that took me over 30minutes to burn CDs with, I'm a pretty happy camper burning in less than 8minutes

Cheers - thanks for a wonderful deal.

The Durons are "cheap" but that does not mean that they are not high quality, as with the TBirds. They are cheaper than the PIII and in the instance of the TBird, beats it in many tests.

have got the drive for a few weeks now. no complaint at all. Thanks for the deal! i agree with foreverSilky. It burns CDs like a rocket! BURN proof is a great thing if you want to preserve your time and frustration (of re-burning) for something else, perhaps your gf I won't get another drive without a BURN proof from now on.

Has anyone upgraded the firmware to verion LS22? I have flashed the CDRW (a long 3-5 minutes job) and then got "Verify Fail!" error message box afterwards. What has happened? Then I checked back it is still the old version of LS17. Any idea?

FYI: I have download it from here.

many thanks.

My flash update took like 10 sec., it shouldn't have taken 5 min. Were you running any programs when you tried the flash? Try downloading the update from the site again. Does it still burn?

thanks for the quick reply foreverSilky.

Yup. no application running while I flash, and it still burns. I am using Win2k though. LS3822.exe is the latest version from liteiton.com.tw, which they have updated as of Feb 26, 2001. Is that also the version you have flashed your liteon? if not, I would appreciate if you can email me the .exe you have to: i_strategist@yahoo.com. Are you running Win2k?

The only thing I have changed is that I have changed the jumper to Master (originally a Slave from the retail box) and connected it to IDE2. Have also connected the digital audio cable and power (of course!).

Thanks in advance.

Ok - worked fine...mine also took only a few seconds. Maybe there's a glitch with updating in Win2K? Make sure everything is closed up and disabled (virus scanner, any probes, etc.)

yes it can, works perfectly with clonecd.

bonjour, win2k may be the culprit. do you have win98 too? try booting into win98 and reflashing.

Hi,
I have a question.
What is difference between OEM version and Retail Version?
Please let me know.
Thanks.

I'm guessing the OEM doesn't come with software or an ide cable. If you want ezcd creator then get the retail.

mercutio11 - considering the OEM came with an audio cable, drive, and CD Creator 4.02d, I can't tell a difference...maybe the retail includes other things?

Question: I guess I'm just an idiot, but I don't see "burnproof" anywhere in CD Creator (just updated to latest version, 4.03). How do I know if it is activated, or is it just an assumption? I'm also upgraded with the latest firmware LS22.

Also have CDRWin, but gosh darnit, no support!! doh! Not even in their latest version 4.0!

That's about the only thing I don't like, CDRwin doesn't support it. But if you just want to burn .bin files download fireburner.

This is a beginners question, but thanks for the help ahead of time. What is the purpose of flashing to the latest firmware? and How can you tell what version I have?

OK. will try to find a win98 system around me and flash it over there. one question to all those who have flashed it: have you installed the driver on the floppy disk come with the box?

I haven't installed it coz it only supports certain Intel chipset and mine is VIA KT133A. the CDRW seems working fine without the floppy disk driver, even at 12x write, perhaps it is not read as fast? any comment on this?

thanks.

Firmware updates can fix problems a drive may have, add compatibility for certain software (clonecd), give it new abilites (burn-proof, sub channel reading), etc.
