just flashed with a win98 system. Done. beautifully. So just a word for all of you who run win2k: don't bother to upgrade the firmware from a win2k machine. it just does not work. get a win95 or win98 simpler system and flash from there. good luck.

now this drive better works like a slave for me.....

Many drives have problems when trying to flash under win2k.

I'm sure it can take whatever you throw at it.

I bought one oft hese drives off the FS/T forums about a week ago and i finally got it and installed it yesterday, all I can say is that I'm impressed. Its quiet and runs just as good as any Plextor or Rebadge you can find. I was burning sh!t for the hell of it LOL. Moving from my trusty old Yamaha 2x2x6 SCSI, Its refreshing to be able to burn a CD in a few minutes rather than 30 minutes.

Mine came in yesterday, installed it today and it burn's just like it's supposed to (650 meg in 6:53 sec at 12x burn on an 8x approved blank) I'm happy.
The only thing is that I can't update my firmware either. I run the program and it does nothing, just sits there.... have to shut it down with ctrl-alt-del. I'm running WinME, guess I'll install 98 on my spare computer and try the update there.

You all do realize that there is an Aopen CDRW on their site for 130 as well, it includes a 4 meg buffer, but maybe no burn proof...what do ya'll think of that one? Its also 12x10x32...good buy?

The retail version is back in stock...

Edit: Sorry, now out of stock. I think word of mouth is helping sales. I told some friends, and at least 3 ordered the burner.

jacobnero6918 -- you are funny. Plextor makes a "B" line... haha.

There are a lot of costs to selling a computer product, such as technical support, documentation, marketing... Iomega cuts those costs, that is why they are cheaper. The drive is the same as a Plextor.

I can just image the Iomega rep visiting the Plextor factory when they were selecting a mfg... "Can I see your _Crap quality 'B' line that jacobnero6918 says we can get for cheaper?_"

I did try to flash it with WinME, no luck... it just froze, but luckily it did no harm (I can still burn) am going to hook it up to a win98 system sometime soon to flash it

For those who asked about BurnProof with EZCreator -- you need to upgrade to version 5 to have BurnProof support. I don't believe it comes automatic in v4.xx.. I have the Teac drive from the CompUSA/ESBuy deal and I have to use v5 to burn w/ BurnProof.

But why bother... get your hands on a copy of Nero..

peace,

Plextors first 8x burner was a rebadged sanyo. Same drive as the smart and friendly cd rocket. If plextor rebadges sanyo, sanyo must be good?

Just got it today. I'm burning at 2X when I selected 12X under Easy CD? Why is that so? I'm doing audio extraction from a Toshiba Drive to the Burner and selected 2X earlier on. Is there anyway we can update to Easy CD version 5?

Oh yeah, the later OEM version carries the LS31 firmware.

Am I the only big dummy unable to access the LiteOn sites linked to in this thread for the firmware revisions? Tried IE5 and Mozilla browsers (cookies enabled), and all times of day, and no go. Would like to pick up on this deal, but would feel more comfortable if I could actually access the updated firmware. I cannot even bring up any of their site.

Haven't try burning other's yet. The CDr was a certified 8X though. The person I bought from says that he burned it at 12X.
