Wow, this is a nice burner for the price! It is pretty quiet too. (much quieter than my old yamaha 4416EZ) I chuckled a little bit when I flashed it to the most recent firmware though. (Any "All your base are belong to us." fans will understand what I mean.) Alltogether tho I love this burner.
Hm, anyone have problems burning with Fireburner? I keep getting buffer underruns, or it says there's something wrong with the image. I sure wish this would work with CDRWin!!!
Just got mine! Flashed it in Windows 2000, it worked, and now im burning a cd off clonecd, only 4% cpu usage too, very sweet! I have more testing to do, but so far I'm damn happy.
I just bought one, the oem is now in stock as of an hour ago...Originally i was going for a plextor 16x retail...but decided to save a hundred bucks and just upgrade to a 24x later on. thanks for all the insight on this drive... question tho... this drive being made in china...u think they might release a firmware which enables it to burn safedisk2(sp?) cds. Kinda like how the chinese made home dvd players are kinda shady with the region selection and macrovision disable functions... also...they released a firmware that enables 8x lite-on cdrws to burn at 12x... u think they'd release one for 12x to burn at 16x? here's wishful thinking
A question for those that have already got this drive-I bought a Buslink 12x10x32 at Best Buy for $129 and it's specs and picture look to be identical to Lite-on's. Does your drive have made in Taiwan or made in China on it. I am trying to determine if I can use Lite-on's firmware updates.

to enable DMA, right click on My Computer >> Properties >> Device Manager--> CDROMs - selet the drive, go to its properties, click on DMA in there. I also have Auto insert notification turned off.
Also make sure your ASPI layer is up to date. get aspichk.exe from the adaptec site or search teh web for it. there are lots of site that have it. (I know www.flexion.org has a link under the Quicklinks>>ForceASPI area -- which I used to update my ASPI, but comes with many warnings and disclosures - use at your own risk).
