actually I know a person that has done the USB thing, at least with a 10X, so what if I have to use it a little slower, still beats out my 4x4x16 yamaha SCSI one.

Can one of you guys who have this rewriter please let me know if it will make a full working copy of SafeDisk2(sd2) that will run on your CD-ROM (not the rewriter). Many rewriters that are "compatible" with CloneCD cannot make a full working copy of SD2...some others will burn a copy that will only work on the rewriter, but not any other CDROMS (ie: the Plextor 12x10x32x).

If anybody can confirm this for me, I would greatly appreciate it. This is the only thing preventing me from purchasing this drive. Tx.

Also, I can't get Adaptec Ez to work. It boots up and then minimizes, and then nothing.


Upgraded to version 4.03a and it is working. But I have afew questions:


1. Why is my CPU usage 95+ % during burning? I thought these only used a little resources?

2. Where is Burn-Proof enabled? I don't see it in the software.

3. What is the best CD copying and creating software to use (I primarily do MP3 and audio disks, not software.)

I think Burn Proof is supported only in version 5 of EZ CD Creator. If so, that's why you aren't seeing it in the supplied SW.

use nero for burning (it supports burn-proof). i don't think that ezcd creator 4 supports burn-proof. that's odd that 95% of your cpu is being used while burning, mine only uses %5-10 at most.

I thought it was odd too. Maybe Adaptec 4.03a is inefficient? Or any other ideas? I've got it on it's own IDE channel, as a master drive.

Okay,I'm very confused. What am I doing wrong? I am running Windows NT 4.0, and when I use Nero to write a disk, my cpu usage as reported by task manager runs around 60-70% according to the graph, and then plummets to around 2% when it finished. I thought this CD was supposed to only use few resources? When I look at the Processes tab Nero only shows 5% or so, but the total CPU usage is up around 60-70%, which slows down the system appreciably.

question: do I need to install or enable DMA here?

;Any thoughts why I am getting such heavy usage of CPU?

yes, you need to enable DMA
as without DMA you are running in PI0 mode which take alot of cpu power
enable DMA, should solve your problem

ok, they are out again so I didn't get my order in. What is the buffer size on the Lite on? on the A-Open they have listed, it is 4MB, I was just wondering which was better, especially since the A-Open comes with Nero. basically, which is better? The A-Open or the Lite-On?

At 12x burning the 4 meg buffer is burned through in something like 4 seconds... add burn-proof with the lite-on drive and the buffer is irrelevant.

I'm very pleased with this drive. OEM version. By installing DMA support the CPU usage is minimal, 4-5% max. Just burned 200MB in about 2 minutes. Very cool drive for a great price! Nero works great with it, with Burn Proof enabled. Thanks all for the deal!

I think Burnproof is in 4.03a. But, I think it's automatically enabled. I've never burned a coaster even though I tax it to the max when burning. But, I can tell that it takes longer to burn. I think if you head over to http://www.roxio.com, you'll read that 4.03 is burnproof enabled.
