Hey chuckieland,
Why don't you order OEM? There is no difference between OEM and Retail except Retail has some free CD-R and CDRW.

I got my drive yesterday and I have to say, IT ROCKS!
I've burned a few data cds, one music cd and no problems at all.

FYI
Retail box comes with EZ CD 4.02
10 pack of 12x CDRs
and 3 CDRW disks
manual
and a cheezy cd audio cable

Okay, I don't know what to do now. I installed the new firmware and enabled DMA transfer mode. But it still uses 80% CPU time. Anybody have any ideas????

Picked one of these up (OEM) and am having a good time with it so far. I just have a few questions for the more tech savvy users:

1.) Under Win2k, I find that the CPU usage spikes up to almost 100% between each track when writing an audio CD. Like for a second, then drops down to the normal 3-4%. Is this normal? Anything I should be worried about? I've put on the newest (non-beta) 4 in 1's, and got the DMA working properly on it.

2.) Along the same lines, I'm guessing it's important to make sure these things are cabled properly. My set up right now is a 20 gig Quantum on the Primary Master, a 10 gig Maxtor as Primary Slave, the Burner as Secondary Master and the CD-ROM drive as Secondary Slave. I find that if I try to copy an audio CD to CD, it makes a coaster almost everytime. Gets to about the fifth track and locks up. Do I need to swap the CD-ROM to the Primary slave (since I was getting rid of the 10 gig anyways and giving it to a friend)? I know it's probably an easy question. I'm rather experienced with putting systems together (I've been doing so for the last eight years) but you always run into things you are not accustomed to.

Thanks for the help in advance!

Cricky: Yeah if they are on the same channel they'll have to share the bandwidth and you'll get something akin to data collisions. Splitting the cdroms onto different channels can do nothing but help on the fly burns.

I am beginner and I need help, I can't enable DMA in BIOS. The BIOS uses PIO mode 4 instead; however, windowz 98 uses DMA. The total usage of my cpu time is 38% when I use the cdrw. Please advise me how to solve this problem.

hmmm...not happy. I burnered a coaster due to buffer underun. i had a 56X and the Lite on on the same channel though...still with burnproof...when i use the SCSI 32X as my reader there is no problems.
