I got the same response when I ordered the drive, but as soon as that date hits you will get an email saying that the product is backordered and they will give a date in May for delivery.

I just filed a complaint against Dell for their deceptive and incompetent (imho) business practices with the Better Business Bureau. They claim to be fully justified in holding my money (charges levied against my cc account) until such time as they have this drive (which I had cancelled before they ever shipped and refused delivery on the cdrs) which they mistakenly sent me. I have no qualms about returning the drive and will do so once they arrange payment for shipping and pickup. I DO most definitely have qualms about them levying and refusing to refund charges against my credit card which were actually unauthorized.

These new practices of theirs smell not only of incompetence but have a certain stench of theft by deception. I suggest more of you that have been victimized by this also file complaints.

To offer these products up at nice prices is one thing, to use their internal bureaucratic mess as an excuse for bad business practices is quite another.

I got the email saying my order is delayed until 5/7/02, but when I checked the status on Dell's site, it shows 5/3/02 . I got my 90 cents mousepad I ordered the same time 2 days ago. Dell sucks :disgust: and my 4x is killing me. Hope everyone gets theirs sooner or later.

Good luck to you Underclocked...cos they are not the only ones to lie about their product being "in stock". This unfortunately is a common tale among online merchants. We just have to categorize Dell as an online merchant of questionable business ethics and not to be trusted.

I decided to place my order again after they stated that my intial order wan't received. I got both email confirmations on this one and it will supposedly ship on/by the 26th. The problem is they have charged me for the intial order that supposedly didn't exist. Sounds a lot like AT&T's business practices -- continue to charge the customer until they get pissed off, then insist that the unathorized charges will be refunded even though they never intend to. Bastards.

I'd say there's about a 90% chance that you'll get an email saying your orders are delayed. When you get the delay email you can then cancel any orders you want.

I just checked the status online and found that my order has been delayed. I'm just going to cancel and go through pricewatch.com. It's only a couple dollars more plus shipping. At least this way I know I will get one.

nexthardwareshop.com has it for $83+shipping and tax. It'll come out to about $100 if you're in California. I may go this route if I can cancel my order with Dell.
Anyone knows what'll happen to the "extra" stuff that you ordered with the drive (ie, the screw, blank cdr, in my case it's a mouse pad). Do they charge you for it + shipping since shipping is only free with the drive. Do you return it back?

Wow. I had no problems with ordering or receiving my order. Check this out. I ordered my drive on 4/17 at about 11:37am (HST). Got confomation email 1min later 11:38am (HST). Got my drive in my hands 4/19. Dell Rocks.
