Just checked on mine too, was delayed till 5/4 and shipped out yesterday via Standard Overnight. Didn't really need it ASAP, just happy I'm getting mine Good luck to everyone else who didnt get their's yet.
Same here, both my roommate and I ordered the CDRW on the 22nd. An order confirmation was received on the next day indicating that it won't be sent out until the 29th. Yesterday, I got an email from dell saying that "We will not be
able to ship your order until on or before May 10th, 2002" and you may cancel your order at any time.
What kind of services does dell have? This is very disappointed.
<< These are excellent drives. MAXIMUM PC gave it a 9 out of 10! They only have the Plexwriter 40x an 8.
Mine came in a few weeks ago. 40X music cd's in a few minutes - VERY NICE!!!! >>
Obviously Max PC doesn't know how to review optical drives. There's more to burning than just speed and drive cost or even drive features. Whatever happened to burn quality, which the Plextor has over the LiteOn? The LiteOn definitely has the best price/performance and price/feature ratios, but their burn quality has much to be desired. You actually burn audio at full speed? I think the best drive overall is the Teac 40x, which I'll probably get in addition to this drive (if Dell ever ships mine) or the new P-CAV Yamaha, if I can wait another 4 months.
arggghh,, I still didn't get the drive yet,, but I did get a delay E-mail ,, Does that mean I'll be recieveing it soon?, The worse part is that it still shows in-stock on their website..,,, Makes me wonder what's going on over there..
Email said delayed until the 05/10, web site says 05/06. For a company that was at one time rated very high there support has gone way down in the last year.
Six months ago I ordered a Laptop for my father. They delivered it promptly but it took at least two weeks and many phone call to get the case. Since then it has been back to Dell twice for problems. Dell picked up all the shipping but it was still a hassle.
About a month ago while looking for for one for his wife he found one of Dell one or two day specials placed an order. It came promptly but was only half the Laptop advertised. After placing a call and complaining they buillt him a new one that was even better then advertised.
Seems like if you complain enough they come through. For a company with such a good reputation they sure have a problem getting things correct. I say we all write letters to the marketing department and Michael Dell.
glc1.. na, you should be pretty happy with the Lite-on.
I was a Plextor man myself, along with most of the other people, until this one game out.
I guess the 40X Plextor has some problems that they said need to be fixed in the next version... one being the crappy software bundle and the other being that the PLEXTOR 2000 Manager is not compatible with XP...
Yeah, I have been doing Audio with the Lite-on at 32X (onto 16x TDK CDR's)... works just fine.

Read the more advanced reviews and you'll see what I mean. There's more to burn verification than listening to a music CD that was just burned or copying a data CD and verifying integrity with a successful intall of the game/app. Original CDs have many, many errors and more errors can be introduced during the burn. The Teac, with Yamaha second and Plextor probably third, definitely produces the best burns by introducing few additional errors. LiteOn's DAE quality and performance is superb and it's one of only a few drives capable of writing SD2.51.x successfully without help, but it's not the best all around drive, IMHO. I tend to hold burn quality and DAE quality over performance.
<< Check your credit card for the charges---Dell charged full price with no $20 discount---emailed them for correction---hope it's just a clerical error!
Delray >>
I remember one online company charged the full amount to your CC then credited your card with the coupon amount. Maybe that was jcrew.com I don't remember...
Well, just got mine today. Never received a single e-mail from Dell after placing the order. The funny thing is the box for the Imation CD-R was bigger than the one with the Lite-On drive in it.
Okay I called in to cancel last week (24th) because of that delay notice. I spoke to a CSR and he confirmed everything should be cancelled within 24 hours. A few days gone by and I didn't receive any shipment from DELL. Not even the CDR so I assumed the cancellation went through. Boy was I wrong. Came home today and there was a package. It was very light and said from DELL. I am pretty confident it's the CDR disc and not the burner. But jeebus WTF is up with DELL? I swear if they send me the drive, I'm gonna think about calling up my CC and fighting this while keeping the burner since many of you said it didn't require a signature. I'm not sure because I wasn't home to receive the package.
The brown truck came today and dropped off the box, Dell site says it's delayed till 05/03 :Q. Did the first burn test with about 250meg in about 1m16s. Sweeeettt. I'll be ripping and burning audio with this drive for a while. My drive was manufacture 04/02, hopefully they fixed whatever bug that reportedly affected some March/02 drive that caused problems with burning audio at full speed.
Damnit, my 16x FujiFilms (with the BS 24x sticker) only burn at 16x with this drive. Hopefully a coworker will buy my spindle. Someone please please please find me a good deal on 24x FujiFilms. The true 24x's supposedly burn at 40x no problem.
