I ordered on 4/17 and got my Order Ackknowledgement right away that day at 2PM PST. I didn't recieve the Order Confirmation (Which contains the order # and customer #) until 4/20 9AM PST... So it took about 3 days! Also in the Order Cofirmation email is stated that the drive may ship on or before 4/24...

I too ordered last Friday the 19th. By this morning still no confirmation number. So after 4 calls and 6 hours I got the Deleware office that handles periferials. This guy tells me if my credit card hasn't been charged then the order did not go through. WOW what customer service!

Just thought you guys having trouble might want to know, because the first three people I talked to @ dell told me to just wait it out, but this guy in DELEWARE said to definetly re-order. Guess I'll take my chances with 2 drives but given their record I'll be lucky to get one. GOOD LUCK!

Sorry to hear about you folks that have not received an order confirmation, etc. Certainly the system seems a bit inconsistent. But I hope that these problems are the exception, and that many others of you were able to take advantage of this deal, and receive the drive as easily and quickly as I did. Whether you ended up paying $88.xx the other week, or just $80.xx with this deal, and whether you got free overnight or just free 3-5 day ground shipping, I think the drive is definitely worth it at <$90.

Thanks, azshopper71, for info about the 40x TDK disks at CompUSA. I've just used the drive to burn 16x PNY blanks I have at plain old 16x speed, even though in Nero up to 32x is listed as an option. When I have time to do some systematic testing, I'll actually do a 32x burn on one of these 16x PNY blanks to see if it comes out error-free. I suppose if I had real 40x rated media, Nero would also present a 40x option instead of only up to 32x.

I already have a Lite-on 16x10x40x drive with updated Nero software installed. When my order arrives, can I just replace the old Lite-on with the new Lite-on ? In other words, will Nero be smart enough to work with the 40x12x48x drive without reconfiguration?

Well, I received an email from them stating that they didn't receive my order for the 40x lite-on. What BS. I got the first confirmation email. This is the last time I ever order from Dell. I tried to order via phone, but they wouldn't allow the coupons. Screw Dell.

I decided that maybe I haven't received an order confirmation on my order because I had taken advantage of the free overnight shipping.

So I reordered about five hours ago using the 3-5 day free shipping. I got an acknowledgement about an hour and a half later, but not a confirmation.

I guess that I wait and see which one ships first and then cancel the other order.

BTW if anyone has tried to order from OD in the last day or so using a coupon link, it won't let you check out. Customer service says it is a problem with a software update. But I've heard they don't like all the coupon links out there. Also OD is getting about 10 to 11 thousand internet orders an hour. That's pretty incredible. There was an article in yesterdays paper about how great their internet site is doing. It has way exceeded their projections.

Funny, I was able to talk to a Customer rep and was given the order number for the order which I placed early Sunday Morning. Tracked it on the Web and it says it will be shipped/processed on 04/24.

I havn't gotten my Confirm e-mail yet. I ordered around noon on April 19th and now it's the 23rd and still no confirm. I've placed the same order several times and still no confirm.

I thought it's strange because I ordered the 120gb hd for $142 on April 19th and it shipped on the 22ed.

It depends. Sometimes the burning programs are set to only work with the drive it came with. I bought the "full" OEM version off of Yahoo! auctions for $6. Best investment ever. Now I don't have to reinstall with every upgrade. But give it a shot to see if Nero is keyed to work with the manufacturer or the specific model and let us know.

just got that email too. so i called and cancelled. i don't think i need a 40x anyways. my 12x is fine for now actually. a tip though, don't call that # and input that extension they gave in the delay email. it'll just keep on rejecting your customer # and give you the run around. just call 1800-www-dell and speak to a customer representative.

I also called and cancelled. That is straight up BULLSH!T!:| They HAVE them in stock...SHIP them just fart knockers!! Anyway, I'll just stick with my 12x unit for a little while longer.

I had ordered the 32X Lite-On earlier from Dell along with a pack of 50 cdrs. They sent the cdrs very promptly, then notified me the burner would be delayed until sometime in May (had been in stock when I ordered). I cancelled, turned around and ordered the same drive from Newegg. Got it today, except it turns out Newegg upgraded my order to the 40X Lite-On for the same $73 price as the 32X. How about that!
