Lite-On 40x/12x/48x CD-RW for $80.55 next-day shipped from Dell, no rebates, etc.

My drive came today in a box smaller than the one with the blank CD and with no email notification of my drive being shipped even though I requested it. Replaced my Lite-on 16x10x40x drive with it and Nero detected it without a problem. Ran CD speed (Nero Tools) and got these results:

Tranfer rate test : Speed 21-47X CAV (36.31X Average)
CD Quality Test: 0 errors, Average read speed 34.10X
Seek Test : Random = 95ms 1/3 = 97ms and Full = 162ms
CPU Utilization : 1X = 0, 2X = 1%, 4X = 2%, 8X = 4%
Burst Rate: 20 MB/s
DAE Quality Test: Quality = 10, Accurate Stream= yes
Spin up/down : Spin up = 2.58s, Spin down = 4.15s


How come this drive doesn't average 48X read speed or is it always the max speed that is spec'ed?

after 3 emails to the customer service department mine shipped out last niht. Fedex says its on the truck to be delivered today. This is 3 orders in a row they have messed up somehow.

I received email on 4/25 saying shipping delayed till May 9th. Then this morning I checked order status. It said drive was shipped yesterday. I checked UPS tracking and it says it will be delivered tomorrow May 1st.

At least they beat their targeted delay shipping date by 11 days. Personally, I have never had any real problem ordering from Dell.

BTW I also checked my AMEX card online and I haven't been charged for the drive yet.

Rats!!! Checked my status via FEDEX and a delivery attempt on the Lite-on was made today 12:56 p.m. I was at work. Got an e-mail last week about delayed shipping till May 10th. Looks like I'll have to leave a note on my door for them just to leave it in front or the garage. :disgust:

Email said delayed to 05/10, web site said delayed until 05/06. After three email's complaining progressivly louder it came yesterday which was when the charge was made on my cc.

What amount did they charge your CC?? I was charged full price of $97.97

I got the drive on Monday, the 29th. It came with LiteOn box but looked like it had been opened. The plastic bag that the drive was in was not even taped up, as well as the box. There was a little bag with the manual, audio cable and 4 screws. There WAS not an IDE cable included. I run all SCSI in my system so this kinda threw me off. I had to search all my old stuff bins to find an IDE cable.

Besides that, the drive works perfectly. Burned a backup of Fifa2002 (SD2 protected) and played it back flawlessly. Burned some image from hard drive fine. I'll burn some audio this week to test the DAE.

I haven't check my CC charge yet.

Hey everyone just have to be patient. Everyone will eventually get their drives. I placed my order on Friday April 26 and it was shipped on Tuesday April 30th. Should get it next week on Monday according to UPS.

Patients is fine but Dell's lieing to us. Accoring to them it takes four days production time (all they have to do is pack the box)for this drive but only 2-3 days production for a laptop. If they would have just said the demand for these was greater then antisipated most of us would not have complained so much.

Came in a nice brown box. They even sent a letter a few days before saying that the screw had shipped.

I got my drive yestersay. It has a production date of April 2002. I was charged $85.38 on my credit card which is the correct amount including tax.

If two hundred people ordered this drive from Dell, that's a lot of drives to keep in stock. I think that overall Dell does a good job.

I also received mine on Monday, I opened the shipping box but not the Lite-on yet. My LiteOn box was shrinkwrap sealed just as if you'd bought it at a store. Maybe you got a return?

BTW there is a new firmware release dated April 02, 2002 that claims to improve playability.

Just for the record, the lite-ons do not come with an IDE ribbon, I posted this in another thread.

I ordered 2 separate times. Both were not shrink wrapped. Everything seemed new and worked fine.

Ordered 4/17. Got email on 4/22 saying order delayed till 5/6. Arrived on 4/30.

The box was not shrink wrapped. It may have been a return. Here's what was in the box
The drive
1 CDRW disk
1 CDR disk
the Nero software CD
An ANALOG audio cable (no digital cable)
1 page instruction sheet
4 mounting screws

Am I missing any items guys?

The instructions picture a 2-wire digital cable, but the only cable in
the box was a 3-wire 4connector analog audio cable. No IDE cable (according to previous posts,
its not included). No waranty/registration card.
Got it installed. I'll run tests on it later today...
