You can buy it from dell home and use one of the 10% off coupon and no need to buy anything else.

Got mine yesterday. Works great!
The tray isn't as sturdy as my previous Plextor. However its half the price.
I burnt a bunch of CDs. Everything seems okay. Very fast.
It had the latest firmware installed.

Got my last Friday, works well.
My old Ricoh CDRW only has 4x, I am so happy that I got this 40x drive.
Since I didn't purchase any 40x blank cdr media, I can only run up to 32x but it is good enough.
Basically it can burn at 3200k/sec, about 5-6 min to burn 700mb of data.
Hopefully its lifespan is as good as my 3 years old Ricoh.

shipping your Dell order.

You are a valuable customer, and we are aware of the inconvenience and
apologize for the delay.

Thank you,

Dell software And peripherals"

DIE DELL DIE!!!!!! They are still processing my order even though I cancelled it on the 24th of April. The drive still shows as in stock on their webpage as well. Needless to say I won't be responding but I have a feeling the order will still go through regardless. If this happens, you think DELL can get into legal trouble since they did say by law that it has to be cancelled if there is no response? I wouldn't mind a class action lawsuit against DELL just to annoy them

This drive is awesome! However, Dell's service ain't. I was told there was a delay; however, it shipped on the original date. What's even funnier is how I now get Dell catalogs every month. I've never bought a system only component parts that are NOT Dell brand. I've bought a monitor, Lite On DVD, Lite On 40 cd-r. Why would I EVER want a system from Dell? Have you seen inside one lately? Trash components.

>>>DIE DELL DIE!!!!!! They are still processing my order even though I cancelled it on the 24th of April.<<<

Typical Dell. I cancelled one of the 3 Lite-On 40x12x48 drives that I ordered about a month ago. I was told to refuse the drive, which I did, weeks ago. Still no credit for it, so I called up and was told that "the tracking number was changed in the system, and they've got it under another number." *HUH*? So, the rep supposedly corrected whatever it is that needed correcting, and told me the credit would now be processed. Then I asked her when I could expect to see the credit made, and she told me: "2-3 MONTHS." Needless to say, that charge will be placed into dispute with my credit card as soon as my statement cycle closes, long before that credit will appear. F* Dell.

I ordered mine from Newegg.com for $93 shipped. Worth the extra cash, I'll have it by the end of the week.

2-3 months? she's trying to make you feel better. try 4 months, that's how long it took dell to give me my credit after i refused a samsung monitor i ordered. same situation as yours, ordered it, cancelled it, yet it was still shipped to me.

a lot of "peripherals" are dropped shipped by 3rd party vendors, so when you reject the shipment, it goes back to them, not dell. dell does not know about it because those vendors don't care to tell dell unless they are probed, so we, the buyers get screwed.

oh, btw JIC, check your ebates account, those bastages took away the money for the cancelled dell orders. there goes $750 from my ebates account.

Got mine yesterday from Newegg. Been running CD Speed tests through Nero. Fastest this drive has been able to burn (in benchmarks) Avg: 18.27, Start: 20.01, End: 17.33. The highest it ever gets is 24x.

I had this problem too. Make sure DMA is enabled. That fixed it for me

I went with 32x instead and it was 73 shipped NOT BAD IMO, it shipped the next 48 hour thought. think I be getting it today or tomorrow. 24x takes like 4 min and 30 sec thought, 32x might take 3 min and 30 sec thought so only a min difference and 40x, 3 min to be exact. I dont see how saving 30 sec make up the difference in prices maybe brags?

its not all that great LOL Sony, Sanyo, Teac and a few other I do not know about are just as good in the ability to write to any media without any coaster.
Mine shipped alot sooner then the estimate date so it not so bad. I would order again in the future but I find better deal elsewhere.

No worries...Amex will take care of it with no problems.

Thanks...I checked. They did take about $50 back from one of my orders; I guess it was one that was never filled, but I don't keep track of these things. This would be the first time Ebates has reversed any credits on my account for a cancelled order. Oh well...win some, lose some. Odd that they show that they "sent a big fat check on 5/15/02"...must be a time zone difference of 8 days between where I am, and where they are :Q

its ok dell make so much that giving thing out like that once in awhile is just to make you happy LOL I would buy from these this coOmpany again once I have more money to burn, right now on tight budget sorry cannot even buy regardless how cheap. Kids need money, wife too and bills all are a priority any extra will most likely go to savings and not buy thing that are not really needed.

By any chance does anyone know if this drive was available in midnight grey?
Although performance is key, I assumed that Dell going with midnight grey systems,
they would have if not sold, obtained midnight grey drives, at least indicated that they
were not or that color varied (if applicable). My system is a Dell (midnight grey) and
although this is not about fashon, I do prefer my shoes be the same color. I'll check if
LiteOn has this drive in the respecful color for a possible exchange. If not, I'll just be a
little faster with two different colored shoes, lol!

Is this the case (non midnight grey drive) with you all?

PS: Nice post.

DAE, RW peformance, read speeds, and music burning performance are all much better on the 40x drive. Definitely worth the extra 12 bucks (tax) to me, since these are the features I use.

Not to mention with 40x, Liteon uses different firmware than the 32x and that could help too. Also, there's a new firmware coming out that the 40x can support Mt. Rainer format as well as P-CAV, 32x can't.
