Anyone know if this will write to any media with amazing quality including new/unknown media like my benq does. Liteon bought benq and has been trying to incorporate their thechnology but at last read it hasn't been going well. It writes most common high quality media currently available but that seemed to be it. Its nice to get a good burn out of any junk media. I can give away copies cheap that way. I also feel confident that the good media is burned even better.

I own it - I can burn on wooden discs...well not quite, but it handles every garbage disc I have thrown at it.

Thats great to hear. After having this benq I didn't want to settle for a non adaptive burner again. Eventually new media comes out and it wants to burn them at 2x again and you are lucky to get a decent burn even then without hacking firmware etc.

I was reading the reviews (yeah, I know about Newegg reviews) & saw this:

Tech Level: somewhat high - Ownership: 1 week to 1 month

Pros: Fast, quiet, good burn quality, is also a pretty good scanner with a simple regiesty tweak.

Is this a joke?

I had a lite-on drive that couldn't read msdn disks. Anyone else have this problem? It's the only brand that I've had this trouble with.

You get what you pay for

I would consider this burner junk

Many wasted discs, and also does not like to read discs burnt on older liteon

discs get displaced almost every time you eject, also mentioned in the newegg reviews.

I would not buy this drive

Well, I went for it. Gonna replace my almost one year old samsung that I think is on its way out.

Looking at the reviews its funny how some people say it's loud and some say it's not. I guess it's all relative.

Hopefully mine will be problem free.

For anyone that cares.

I just got my Lite On drive in. Firmware ends in BL03. I've seen BL02 and BL04 online but have noty seen BL03??? I did contact Lite on through theier live chat on their website and asked what the newest firmware was. They said they have not released a firmware for that drive. This leads me to believe that BL02 and BL04 may be hacked versions although I am not certain. I have not changed my firmware for the test.

Just wanted to comapre it to my Samsung SH-S182M. I burned 3 video files to a cd. Total size was 700MB. Used nero 7.5.1.1 Startsmart @48x.

Lite-On burned the disc in 2:45.

Samsung burned the disc in 3:10.

The lite-on is a bit louder than the samsung but I probably would not have noticed it woithout doing a back to back test. The Lite-on tray opens significantly faster if that matters. It does shudder a tad when opening.

Have not tried lighscribe although I do not know if using sata will improve LS speeds?????

So there you have it. Please note this is not a scientific "official" test and your results may vary.
I may try and flash to the BL04 and see if I get an increase in speeds.

Hope this was informative to someone.

Any questions, please ask away.
