Lite-On Burner Problems

Okay, here is the problem that I am currently facing. My CD burner is at the moment, not burning and safe-disk protected CD's such as AOK/Diablo2, etc. etc. However, in the past it has worked perfectly fine. (That was how I made the backups in the first place). But now, it isn't able to read the CD's without taking 6 hours or so. I have set the settings to the required ones (according to www.gamecopyworld and other sites). Could there be something wrong with the drivers? (The firmware is the same as when it worked).
Could the software have "updated" itself or something to not let me do it (I'm using Clone CD.. a somewhat older version)
BTW my CDR is the 12/10/32 Lite-On

Any suggestions???

Lite-On has had troubles making reliable burners. See if you can return it (or an RMA), then go buy a Yamaha, Teac, or Plextor.

I've heard that they had troubles making good burners in the past but recently they've gotten their act together. A lot of people like the newer 16x or 24x burners (including me ).

The thing is, that it worked for months upon months burning programs perfectly fine. (and all of a sudden it won't burn the newer protected games). Also, I have tried burning these games on the newer 16X Lite-On burners (my friends) and it still doesn't work. Any ideas? (I just recently tried going to the latest version, but that did not alleviate the problem)

Wait wait wait, so you're trying to copy games that are copy protected? Does the drive work fine otherwise? I'm not too up-to-date on the latest copy protection methods, but it wouldn't surprise me if new methods come out all the time. Maybe there's a new trick to copying the game in question? If the drive works fine for everything else, then I can't think of anything else.

Have you tried uninstalling and then reinstalling the Clone CD software?

I've tried reinstalling the software to no avail. Also, I have been trying to copy the SAME EXACT game as earlier, so unless they can magically put a new protection on it, it should work. Or I could have some settings on wrong. However, the drive works perfectly fine when burning audio cd's, data cd's, and copying cd's without "hard" protections.

Any ideas?
