Lite-On Burners @ BestBuy starting Dec. 14

Hey. Does Nero support this guy? The 411S I mean. I just installed mine and opened Nero 5.5.9.17 and it doesn't recognize it at all... I was just planning on buying Nero 6 this weekend (figured it'd make a good match to finally get it after getting a better DVD burner), but if it's not supported, I'm not going to bother. That's just weird.

I checked Nero's site and it doesn't list it as a supported recorder, so I'm really starting to wonder :-/

Picked one up at the Gaithersburg, MD store. There were 5 or 6 left as of a few hours ago.

So whats the difference between the 411 and 451? And how do I know which I have? My serial number starts with 432345 and it was manufactured in Nov 2003.

Look on the top of the drive? It should say which model it is I'd imagine. mine said 411 even though it has the clear package sealer sticker that some claim (I think?) are the 451

No. I sent the rebate receipt that showed the $69.99 purchase price. I used the real receipt that I keep to do the PM. It's NOT that YMMV, unless you get a CC rep that looks at the final after rebate price that wants to argue with you.

i c, they print out rebate receipt, that's cool but it is a YMMV as you said yourself, CC rep might look at the final after rebate and argue, so you would have to either go to another CC store to PM again or whatnot, basically it's not bullet proof and deal will vary

Yes, it is a bit YMMV, but its not that "big" as you originally stated. There has been many many PM similar to this and its always a YMMV, but you still have a good chance of getting the $9.99 price. There's no point to discussing this further because the deal ended tonight.

Well just downloaded Nero 6 Demo and it appears to work. Woohoo ;-) Should've figured eh?

I had to flash the firmware on my 411s to get Nero to work properly with it. It still burns slowly with Magix Video Deluxe 2.0, but works well with Sonic MyDVD 4.5 and Nero 6.

So is the 451 better than the 411? The reason I ask is that I bought a 411 from BestBuy.com on black Friday. I wanted to use my gift card, but you can't do that online. So now that it's back on sale, I went and bought another one with my gift card, and I was going to return it with my original receipt. I wasn't even going to open it. But if the 451 is supposed to be better, then I might open it anyway....

Just received my second lite on bought online from BB and the box says 'december 2003' and the six digit is a '9' and it's a 451.

Anyone have a link to the $30 rebate? I can't find it anywhere... the $20 is on the Best Buy site. I ordered this drive during the period the rebate is valid, but just received it in the mail a few days ago... I really want to find that $30 rebate!

I have a question for all you people you people with this Lite-On 52x CDRW model.

I haven't used it much since the date I received the drive. Just recently, I popped in a CD and I notice the drive gives off an audiable high pitch whine. Is that normal from high speed read or not?

BTW, where are you checking the status of the $30 rebate online?

I'm not sure if this is the 411s model, but another thread had a link to upgrade the 401s --> 411s --> 811s
If this is the 411s, then should be able to be firmware upgraded to 811s, which is 8x burner

No problem at all.

I called a week or two back to straighten things out after checking the status online. I got a `confirmation number' and my status no longer says that the UPC was invalid (now they're `processing' my submission). Haven't gotten a check yet, although I did get the BB $20 check (I bought mine during the Black Friday sale).

Don't bother calling BestBuy about the screwup on the rebate though. They really don't care. I'm not exactly sure why I thought that they might, considering that it is BB...

Anyway...as for CD `whining', I guess it sort-of does, depending on the CD. Some are worse than others, I assume that it's dependent on just how balanced/unbalanced the CD is. It's not any worse than any of the other high-speed drives that I've had though.
