Litecoin CPU mining

Hello,

I just recently got into Litecoin mining.

I have it setup and running on my GPUs. Although I am not getting optimal results with my 7870, that is not the issue I want to bring up in this thread.

I want to put my i7 4770k to work and hopefully get an extra 100mH/s.

I have tried this guide (using windows 8.1pro 64 bit). I did everything according to the instructions, replaced file location, host, port, username, and password. When I run it I get the following error:

If anyone is (successfully) mining on their Windows 8 machine, please give me some pointers on how I can start mining LTC with my CPU as well!

I got it working on one of my rigs now. Getting around 13kH/s per core on my i5 3570k @ 4.2GHz. Yay!

I got it runinng on my i7 4770k now as well. I never thought I would be saying this, but I love HT... I am getting around 13kH/s per core. Averaging 100-110kH/s @4.3GHz!

First set of results was @4.3GHz, then I dropped it down to 4GHz, and then back to stock 3.5GHz because I wanna get some sleep tonight without having to hear the fans. My temps at 4.3GHz were about 70*C and at 3.5GHz I'm at 55*C.

At 3.5 I'm getting 85kH/s which is still pretty damn good for a quad core CPU.

LTC applies the kH/s to the virtual cores in the same amount as it does on the physical cores... wow! :awe:

Honestly, if you want to mine with a CPU, look at either PrimeCoin or ProtoShares, you can always convert them into LTC via an exchange if you so choose at a later time.

I agree with Syran, the market is poised for an upswing, you would be best suited to try and get into a coin that you can get VOLUME out of. I am mining WDC and IFC right now. I hope to have at least 100 million IFC before I taper off that venture, they are really easy to mine (50,000 to 100,000 every few hours depending on hashrate) and REALLY inexpensive, fractions of a penny. But if the market swings in the next year or so and these things get to even just $0.01, I'll be sitting on a million bucks.

Of course theres every chance they will be worth still very small fractions of a penny and I wont have much of anything, which is what I'm expecting... but you can't win if you don't play.

I also do WDC as well, get about 30 a day at current hash rate. Those are already ~$0.70 give or take, so in just those I'm banking about $21 a day. Hopefully they go up as well after I've mined a few thousand.

You are on the right track to mine with GPU and CPU, I do the same on all the workhorse machines I'm using.

The other reason I mention that is these 2 (and there are some others) are coins that are handled primarily by CPU vs GPU to try to avoid ASIC mining.

I am CPU mining Primecoin on my overclocked it 3570k since 50kH/s wasn't getting me anywhere. I decided to keep the i7 4770k for LTC mining at the moment since 100kH/s is still somewhat profitable and cg miner treats the virtual cores just as it does physical cores, which most other miners do not.

I am going to set up my 2500k for Primecoin as well.

I can't get Litecoin (cgminer) to run on my new 2500k rig for some reaoson. I am using latest ATI drivers, and it just keeps crashing every time I try to start it up. I tried all sorts of settings. I actually got it to run for about 10-15 minutes, but then it crashed again.

What GPU mining pools and cryptos would you guys recommend?

Yeah, definitely trying to avoid ASICs.

That sounds pretty good. I might give WDC a try on my 2500k rig.
