Is the liteon DVD/CDRW combo a good drive to get? I plan to get rid of my current liteon 24x burner and get one of these instead.

Thanks.

I use all Liteons, I have a Lite-On 16X DVD drive, Lite-On 4X dual format DVD burner in my PC, and a Lite-On CD-RW in my parents PC... they make great drives for the price, and usually are top performers.

I've used the combo drive before. Works like advertised, can't go wrong with it. Go for a DVD burner

I loved my cdrw lite-on that's why i bought a 4X DVD burner from them.

Boy was I disappointed with that crappy burner (411s),all it did was burn unreadable DVD-R's with any firmare.

The only type it could but with reliability was Memorex DVD+R media, but I already had a spindle of DVD-R's.

After countless coasters I returned it for a Pioneer 106 and could not be happier with the results.

So by my own experiences CDRW lite-on drivers are great but their DVD-RW drives are buggy at best.

I hear lite-on DVD-ROM drives are good so i guess a CDRW/DVD reader combo should work fine.

I use nothing but LiteOn CD-RWs and DVD-roms, i would have had a LiteOn DVD-RW but they weren't out yet when i bought my pioneer, anyway so far i have burned over 50CD-R's without any coasters, sounds good to me , btw i use memorex media.

I don't know about their DVD burners, but I've installed a few 52x burners and they are the noisiest thins that I have ever heard. Burn great - no coasters - but real LOUD.

I have the lite on 411s and it works perfectly. I've never had a coaster with it yet. Plus I think it can be upgraded to 8x via flash. Mine is a DVDR/W though. I also have a 52x CD drive that ive never had a problem with either.

The 48x and slower CD writers were much much much quieter.

I'm talking about the DVD / CD-Writer combo not the dvd writers... . I've also had no troubles w/ their CD-RW's, just wondering about the combo drive .

I will only use LiteOn! I currently have a 48X CDRW (not one coaster), 16X DVD, and a 440D 4X +/- DVD burner. I have already ordered the 48X combo drive from Newegg and as soon as they get the 851 in I will be getting that as well.

BTW I had tried the Richo and Pioneer drives but the recorded media was spotty at best on my 3 standalone players. The LiteOn I have backed up 14 movies and all play on my standalones. This is all with the same media.

Well I just got my DVD/CDRW combo drive . Installed it and it works like a charm! What's better, hardware acceleration on or off? I turned it on and I'm using a Radeon 8500 retail. Does it matter what resolution your desktop is at or is the quality the same at all resolutions? I'm viewing those on a 19' NEC CRT FE950+ (Black ).
