well, I got it replaced tonight after work. Spoke to the mom again. Her son proclaims innocence. He says it was some kids they had over. At any rate...it's done.

Tough call. Are they likely to learn from the cops or will they just be sneakier next time?
having to help fix it is what they're likely to learn from. OP, can you tolerate them long enough to make them help? I read further that you don't want to be mr. wilson (mr. wilson was a cranky ol' guy, though.. maybe you don't want to be mr. cleaver) but really,
if you could do that.. and treat 'em with a little courtesy while they're helping.. teach 'em how to do the job right, congratulate them when they do something right, show 'em the difference between a good job and a bad job, talk to 'em and more importantly, listen to 'em, while you're working.. they'll learn from that. and maybe time you're done you'll all have a little more use for each other.
I can understand not wanting to do that.. they aren't your kids, why should you help raise 'em, and it is your house, your property, but people have been comparing the difference between kids in the 60's and kids nowdays and there is a big difference but there's a big difference in neighborhoods too. there's a lot more to being neighbors than just living on the same street. well.. there should be. there used to be.
I can well understand the frustration though.. I hope it is eventually resolved.

I'm 29, but I don't yet have children. Tim and I are getting married in September and plan on having kids. Luckily, we have the same views on parenting. I used to have to watch my little cousins a lot when I was younger and they knew they better behave when they were with me or they'd be in big trouble! lolOriginally posted by: BriGy86
yeah, at least there's still some parents with their head on straight (im only 19)
yeah i had my days of hell raising, i lit a dumpster on fire when i was in 6th grade (this was after i was caught skipping school and smoking in 5th)
after the dumpster incident my dad sat me down at our kitchen table and let me have it
"if you EVER so some idiot hair brained scheme like this again, all im going to tell you is RUN. Because when i get a hold of you im going to literaly kick your ass from one end of the street to the other!"
i've had my head on straight since then pretty much

yes... there is a HUGE difference between kinds now and kids from the 60's. & 70's & 80's!
back then.. you had respect. respect for yourself... respect for you neighbors, and friends and especially you elders... back then... when you were bad and the school had to call your parents it was a shameful thing. back then.. if the cops had to be called, they either slapped the back of your head or they called your parents... and it meant something...
back then... there were values common to society...
today it is a free for all...
and if it doesnt adhere to what some think it 'ok' for kids... well, we need counsellors, and lawyers and big government...etc.
And they were right.Originally posted by: flashbacck
You realize in the 60's, 70's and 80's, people were talking about how kids in the 30's, 40's and 50's were SO much better

Oh, and for the record, they wrote "pussy", made a circle, and dug a chunk out
