New on HBO is a US adaptation of the longtime BBC sketch comedy show, Little Britain. I am watching the premiere and WHAT a piece of crap. I am at a loss to see how anyone could find this funny - it just seems like witless shock value comedy. Anyone else catch this?

Are you kidding? One of the funniest skit shows I remember watching. Wait until Season 2!!!! I didnt know this is airing on HBO< I must set my DVR. Its been a few years since I watched them the first time.

Edit: Whoa whoa whoa wait a minute... Just checked online, and it seems it isnt just an airing of the Little Britain UK series (as Extras was), this seems to be a whole new Little Britain USA!!!!

I watched every episode of the BBC version and the first episode of this american version. It is definitely different...and it was never awesome but it could be pretty funny from time to time. Not so sure about this American one. I found the gun skit to be kind of retarded...

I've never seen the BBC version, but this one is just awful IMO. It's just irritating and I didn't crack a smile during the whole episode.

You don't find it funny because it's not. This is the stupidest of British comedy, every fsking episode is the same joke, and none of them are funny.

I don't think so. It has nothing to do with my being easily offended - I am a HUGE Howard Stern fan - this just seems like shock value for shock value's sake. The last skit, with the two musclemen in the locker room, is a perfect example. There's no wit there that I can see. I started watching the show about 5 minutes in and watched the rest of the episode, but didn't laugh once.

I watched the entire original BBC series. I love the 'only gay in town' bit and the douchbag who stays on the wheelchair.

British comedy doesn't always adapt well when imported to American soil. The Office is one BIG exception.

it didn't translate.
not enough rethinking was done before the show was just plopped into america. they didn't actually spend enough time in america to have insight and it showed. bringing in that hated b*tch rosie odonnell into a sketch? wtf were they smoking. that was so uncool...
the characters they brought straight over just felt out of place. and i really didn't even smile through most of the show, which made the laugh track depressing.
the only amusing bit was at the very end, but well thats not enough.

That's what they said about Monty Python and Fawlty Towers.

Like Python, some of the LB sketches miss their mark, but others are classics.

Like a good wine, LB will mature with age.

Little Britain (from what I've seen of it) isn't.

Monty was funny, Fawlty towers was hilarious, this shit isn't funny.... it's just daft.

Exactly, it's like when they shifted "The Office" from British humour to American "humor" it just isn't funny.
