My main point was that its more dangerous to live in LA than in Israel. According to this link, about 70% of LA *county* homicides are firearms. http://www.vpcla.org/factFirearms.htm

If you want to compare firearm deaths to firearm deaths LA to IL I believe it actually makes it look worse for LA (since so many IL deaths have been bombings).

Also, I was wrong about the no of IL homicides slightly... there are about 120-175 a year that are not related to terrorism, not just 15.

But the bottom line remains, are you are more likely to die of a homicide in LA than a homicide in IL.

just curious... what are the gun laws like in LA?

Part of your license requires a marksmanship test at emergency aid helecopters -oh wait, Los Angeles or Louisianna?

Whatever LA that he is referring to above.

I know. I was making a point about legally acquired versus illegally acquired, sensable and insane people using them. I guess I'm just too subtle right now.

I followed it, and bringing abortion into a discussion about guns is like bringing a lit cigarette into a fireworks store.

Why don't we throw in the racial aspect too? The people on the video were white. Blacks account for a disproportionate number of gun deaths.

There, now we have a trifecta.

I can guarentee if you took a list of the 100 most cultured, sophisticated individuals modern American society has to offer, not a single one of them would list "shooting large automatic weapons and blowing up cars" as a hobby or interest.

However, should you make a list of the 100 most ignorant, ass-backward hicks of modern American society, a large majority would claim to be lifetime members to that club in that video.

You idiots are so blind to your own repulsive, philistine lives.

Not only are you using fallacious reasoning, it requires a subjective assessment of what is "cultured" and "sophisticated."

Philistine... could you BE more of a cliche?

Blowing up cars isn't cultured entertainment by ANY stretch of the imagination.

i disagree

I ask, because I think I remember reading somewhere that the places with the strictest carry laws are the ones with the highest gun problems.

In 26% of violent crimes in the US, a weapon was present
- Department of Justice, Bureau of Justice Statistics, 2002

I think I read that like 9% of violent crimes use a firearm. Maybe LA has a lot of shootings because its a violent county.

And of course using a firearm makes that 9% of violent crimes more deadly. I wont dispute that fact.

The number of gunshot wounds from assaults treated in hospital emergency departments in the US fell from 64,100 in 1993 to 39,400 in 1997, a 39% decline.
- US Dept of Justice, National Crime Victimization Survey 2000

Due to legalizing abortion. Abortion was legalized in 1973. Women started not having kids when realizing that they were unable or unfit to raise a child. These children would have turned 20 in 1993, putting them at the prime age for committing a crime.

From January through June 1999, a total of 213,468 handguns and long guns (rifles and shotguns) were sold by firearms dealers in California. This represents a 30.9 percent increase over the 163,060 sold from January through June 1998. Sales of long guns increased 50.7 percent, from 66,764 sold in the first six months of 1998 to 100,593 sold in the first six months of 1999. Handgun sales increased 17.2 percent, from 96,296 sold in 1998 to 112,875 sold in 1999
- US Department of Justice 1999 US Dept of Justice, National Crime Victimization Survey 2000

Weird, so as gun sales went up, crime went down?

I'm not trying to argue or prove anything btw.

If you really DID follow it, then you would know that TallBill brought it up and Roonstang concurred before I said word one, numbnuts.

It not only makes sense but there is data to back it up. Places where people are not allowed to carry a concealed weapon have higher crime rates on average. Here in Texas the crime rate has decreased since carrying a concealed handgun was made legal about 8 years ago.

No, not really. To me there is no "gun issue". Its just as common in my world as all of the fancy computers that you guys have, or high tech cell phones, or whatever.

Its part of my job, and its also my budding hobby. Shooting is quite simply fun.

Besides, I'm not posting my opinion when I speak about abortion, I'm posting one of my beliefs. I never tried to convince anyone of anything, and wont just blabber insults when someone disagrees.

Guns are used in about 80 percent of Chicago killings, police said.

Chicago has more homicides per capita then LA. A lot more.

Chart of murder rates

645 killed in chicago in 2002, thats a little over 500 murders with firearms.

All in a city where guns are banned!

Hey now, don't go bringing facts and logic into this, this is no place for that kind of talk.

Wow, think about that... people in Chicago who are killing people are ignoring gun laws! I think they should pass another law!

... and people wonder why we have more gun deaths than almost any nation.

You are simply wrong and have no grasp on the situation so I will leave it at that, no sense talking to someone as missinformed as you.

Well, we do have more gun deaths than almost any other "civilized" nation. And before you get your panties in a bunch, I'm not a gun grabber. I think adults without criminal records ought to be able to have guns to hunt and defend their homes.

But its a culture that makes violence "cool" that disgusts me. I think its one thing if a 60 yr old wealthy man wants to wack off with his .50

I think he should leave his kids out of it.

Those kids are lucky as hell. Guns are everywhere in the US and those who know how to handle them properly are in a much better position than the city kids who are sheltered from guns and end up misshandling them when they finally get a hold of one.

Ok then, I conclude through my own logic that we all ought to stop bickering and go have some pie.
