Live Mesh and Sync simultaneously

Search is currently down so this might be a repost.

Anyway, has anyone tried using both Live Mesh and Live Sync simultaneously on the same folder(s)? Does this screw things up? Especially if you use Onenote? (Onenote saves continuously so I don't want to get in a loop where my inking gets erased by a sync- this has happened before with Mesh and two instances of Onenote) I ask because Mesh has been acting up in the last 18hrs or so and I am mainly concerned with syncing. However, I've grown to appreciate the cloud backup that Mesh offers.

I'm also thinking about getting a SkyDrive account, but I don't really want to deal with the manual uploading and file size limits are killer. If Mesh were more reliable and had a 25 GB limit, I'd just stick with Mesh and hope the outages are temporary. But right now I'm at 52% of my quota and only 3 months into school, so I need to make a change shortly after Christmas and I'm trying to plan now.

Anyone? I can't be the only person worried about the 5 GB cap and how to prepare for it.

I could certainly see versioning issues if you're using two syncing services and editing files on multiple machines, I've not used those services extensively though.

So has anyone ever done this? I find it hard to believe that I'm the only person contemplating it...

It doesn't sound like you are using the services appropriately.

First of all: Mesh is NOT a backup service (MS doesn't back up subscription-free storage) -- they (MS) make no guarantees of data availability or reliability.

Now that's out of the way....

I have found Mesh is not able to keep up with constant updating files (I have tested with visual studio projects), so keeping active one-note files on there is not going to work well (as you have already found out).

You haven't explained how you are using Sync. Is there another computer you are syncing to (Sync is client-client synchronization, while mesh is client-cloud)?

I don't see an issue with monitoring the same folder with both; however you are still limited to 5GB due to Mesh. Once you exceed 5GB on that folder, you are risking data loss (not sure how Mesh handles data once space is exceeded).

My first priority is client-client sync between my workstation and my tablet. Secondarily, I've grown to appreciate the cloud storage that Mesh offers. If Skydrive didn't have a 50 MB/file limit, I'd use that. (Many of my PDFs are pushing 60-70 MB.)

Mesh isn't advertised as a backup service, but in effect it is a great consumer-grade backup. I wouldn't use it to back up priceless wedding or baby photos, but it's good enough for schoolwork. I've wiped my laptop twice in the last 2 weeks and mesh resynced my documents in a couple of hours. The Onenote issue I had only came up when I had Onenote open on both machines while I inked on my tablet. Since Onenote continuously saves, I can see how it could screw with Mesh syncs. If I only have one instance of Onenote running, Mesh works without a hitch.

I'm not yet using Sync. I'm hesitant to install it because I don't want to risk my Mesh. I'm at about 2.2 GB of my 5 GB quota after 3 months of school, so I'm looking for a longer term solution.

Here's my concern with simultaneous Sync and Mesh. Both my desktop and tablet are on while I'm in class. I ink in OneNote while I'm in class and the prof. is on slide 1. The prof. starts to get off topic so I don't ink for the next 5 minutes. Meanwhile, my tablet tries to sync with Mesh and Sync. Sync finishes before Mesh, so my desktop also tries updating Mesh. Before I go to ink on slide 2, my desktop has finished the Mesh sync. As I ink on slide 2, Mesh pushes the desktop sync back to my tablet before my tablet tries resyncing. If this were to happen, the syncs would erase my notes. I'm trying to find if anyone has tried something similar, and if there are any problems I should be aware of.
