Live or 2k?

Talking about the basketball games for GC. NBA Live 2003 or NBA 2k3.

I was reading on Electronics Boutique that there are some freezing problems with 2k3, so I'm a bit wary about this game.

However, I have quite enjoyed Sega's sports games, and have never tried Live. Anyone have any opinions?

Wait for Live 2004 and 2k4. It'll be out in like 2-3 months.

But if you are deciding between Live and 2k3, get Live, because I heard that the freestyle control is actually quite good...

2k because EA does not support Xbox Live and 2k supports 720p. I don't play sports games by the way.

Edit: hmm, this is for GC though so it doesn't really matter.

i haven't played 2k3 on the ps2, but i have played 2k2. I heard its basically the same from the reviews. I have live 2003 on the pc, and its awesome. EA really brought the series back to life; Live 2001 and 2002 totally sucked. The freestyle control of offensive moves puts this game over 2k3. But from I've been reading on gamespot, 2k4 got something to counter EA's freestyle control. So if you can wait a few months, look for 2k4 or Live 2004. If not, go w/ the Live '03.

DDR with dancepad is fun only if you get a decent dancepad. If it's one of those cheap plastic sheets, then forget about it and get NBA Street 2.

my friend has live on his gamecube which is pretty fun, but has too much of an arcade feel...so hard to play defense...

i have 2k2 on my dreamcast and i think it's much better...if 2k3 is anything like it i'd take it over live...

I have NBA2k3 on both PS2 & Xbox. PS2's network play and fantasy draft mode is the best. Only played Live 2003 on the Gamecube once and didn't like it as much. Next version of Sega's NBA game is going to be called "ESPN Basketball or ESPN Football" kinda lame if you're asking me.

I hope they fix all of the cheating that goes on in online games. Just that someone's going to find out how to cheat in the next version and crap the game. NBA 2k3's faults on player's pausing online, disconnecting, using one character such as R Allen, Dirk Nowiski, TMAC, to score 100 points.

too bad GC doesn't have Inside Drive 2k3 because it's WAYYY better than 2k3 or Live2k3. it's a lot more smooth and it feels alot better. this is coming from a guy who has been a fan of sega's line of sports game since the dreamcast.

NBA Street Vol 2 is by far the best of the three games.

WIth that said, comparing between Live and 2k3, it really depends on what type of gameplay you want. I agree with jonnyjack in that Live has too much of an arcade feel. The freestyle control isn't nearly as cool as it seems, it looks pretty but gets old quick. And its near impossible to defend in the game. If I want to score 50 or 100 on you with one player, and you have fatigue off, well... you'll be hardpressed to stop it. But if you're into a more realistic NBA Jam type of gameplay, then maybe thats for you. I was really disappointed with the way EA Sports did Live, considering how awesome the Madden series is. However, a lot of people really like the Live series...

Personally I'm more into simulation games, in which case 2k3 is superior because their franchise mode is better and the gameplay is more realistic. You don't have to run and gun the whole game (because in Live, thats all the computer does) and you can slow down and play more simulation type games.

But yeah, get NBA Street. Its awesome. Better on PS2 than GC, but its still more fun than Live or 2k3.

Oh, and as far as the freezing problems go on 2k3, when I bought the game it froze quite a bit, and it seemed to be random. It would just freeze during gameplay and the reset button wouldn't even respond. I returned the game and got a new copy, and it didn't have any more problems. But I did read somewhere that Sega believed it was a small number of games that had the problem so they didn't issue any recall. But that was like last November, so it may have changed by now.

Xbox's Inside Drive is mearly decent. The 2002 version was good I admit but the 2003 version was just the same with different rosters. If you don't believe me, just find it in the bargain bins these days for less than $20.00.

For my money, with all of its faults, Sega's 2k3 is the top notch basketball game. The PS2 version takes the lead because of its free network play (no Xbox Live required).
