Is the 25min. all highway?

Having an extra room is priceless. It's great to have a separate room for computers, studying, and as you said, your music.

Being close to school would be really nice too though...

Heres a tip, and I'm surprised no one has mentioned.

Don't get a place with your girlfriend!!!

You're in college, party it up. And even if you don't want to, and want to stay with her, you still don't want to get an apartment together. Shit happens, she can boink someone else, or you could boink someone else. You never know til it happens, and then your stuck either being miserable together, or paying out the ass to terminate a lease, or one gets hosed and has to foot the whole bill alone, or finds some random roomate who ends up being some weird anal rapist or some shit...

just sayin...

I rented an apt with my gf through out my whole college life. You really do not have to worry about cheating unless you go out with a whore.....

And yeah, I did get to live it up. I just never went as far as to cheat on my gf. So, if you have to worry about you or your gf cheating, then maybe you two should think about the relationship.

Cheating was just an example, could be anything, or something as simple as it just doesnt work out. I'd just think twice about getting an apartment with a girlfriend...

Yeah the 20 minute is mostly highway. 5 minutes would be streets.

It's a tough decision...too bad 2 bedroom apartments around my school are $1850+

I've been living with my girlfriend for the past year. We are both in our mid 20's, so we aren't in that party phase anymore.

1 BR near school. You'll be closer to everything going on and won't be as disconnected from campus. Plus, you can stay and hang out with people rather than worrying about traffic on the freeway.

25 minutes is nothing. I lived 1.5 hours from school and managed (3 hours of travel time every day).

There must be other criteria you can use to decide. Which area do you like the best, which apartment looks the nicest, how important is the extra room to you... etc. Travel time shouldn't even be a factor as long as it's under 45mins.

when your girlfriend cheats on you with your best friend and dumps you, will you be able to afford 1495/month + gas from having to commute to school every day on your own?

It really depends on your priorities and schedule.

Do you go in to school 1 time a day for the entire day at the same time for classes, etc. Do you have classes spread throughout the day where you want to go to and from home/school?

Do you like a separate room for your personal stuff, or to just get away from the gf for a while or are you one of those people who doesn't mind spending every waking moment together?

Can you get a 2 bed for like $1700 close to school? n/m see it's like $1850.

It also sounds like you aren't necessarily a 21 year old looking to party on campus and meet/make tons of party friends. If you are just looking to study and live at home and have a couple friends come over, then I'd go 2BR 25 minutes away. Just treat it like commuting to a job.

My girlfriend and I can either get a 1 bedroom near school for $1510, or a 2 bedroom for $1495 25 minutes away. The 2 bedroom is also a top floor unit. What would Jesus do?

Which neighborhoods are we talking about?
