It's difficult to do it correctly. A lot of things hiss or make spitting noises. The feline in particular is a unique noise. Fakes are easy to spot. Of course cats respond to a wide range of noises that sound similar.

Heh, derailing your own topic.

Anyhow, time is completely relevant. People age and there's no stopping that. You cannot beat the clock no matter where you go. Your heart rate is a timeslice and I suppose you could rate a person's MTBF in heartbeats although nobody would want to hear THAT.

You can beat the clock a bit by getting there really fast. heartbeat varies though, so it wouldn't be accurate for MTBF. Especially since things like exercise and sex might increase you lifespan.

On-topic: Solar days, lunar months if you have a moon and a year based on orbit. I would keep seconds the same but adjust minutes and hours so that the days are somewhat convenient.
On spaceships I imagine they'll keep some standard time. Maybe two if they are traveling at relativistic speeds.

I would go metric. 10 hours day with 100 minutes each.
Match it to the planet's rotation time.

You would have meetings at say, 3:80 hr .

Yes heartbeat varies but if it's going faster it can be said you're reaching your (final) destination faster!

Keeping time in powers of ten would be awesome!
