Of course, if I made a million bucks a year I could bring together space and time whenever I wanted by just jetting everywhere and staying at hotels wherever I wanted and renting cars for transportation for however long I needed.
How are you paying for Gas and insurance if you're living the life of a nomad?
That's what I would be inclined to do if I was going to choose FBB's lifestyle. If you want to make it more permanent, here's a good example to follow. I saw this Saturn years ago and have wanted to duplicate it ever since.
guy who removed rear seats from Saturn SW wagon, raised rear floor, nice long flat bed for sleeping
Guhhhhhhh I hate driving this car so much. I've been driving stick for the past 12 years. I can't stand automatics. But I did it for the fuel economy and the fact that the 5-speed apparently sucks to drive.
But really, I hate driving this thing. Just NOTHING to do. Absolutely ZERO physical connection to the driving experience.
I would say it's more along the lines of making different compromises than most others. I'm not enamored enough of travel (in fact, I don't like to travel at all) that I'm willing to give up the comfort of my own home to fund it. FBB has traded creature comfort for mobility, and the ability to operate from almost anywhere. But the reality is he's still tied to modern norms of sanitation and personal hygiene, that keeps him tied to gas station bathrooms and a shower somewhere, unless he baths in a creek.
I would assume that someday he'll want female companionship as well. The death of the hippy movement has pretty much dried up all of the eligible females willing to live the homeless lifestyle. The few that are willing to live in a car will only do it because they have no other options. That's generally not the sort of young lady you want to bring home to meet mom.
I'm not crapping on the guy's choices, I'm just pointing out that they have consequences that would outweigh the benefits for most of us. Kind of like the difference between being a tree or a tumbleweed.
could you elaborate on the specifics of this? I'm curious cause i breifly looked into something similar in the past and what i came up with is that... You can't daisy chain car battries together when charging by the alternator or you'l overload and ruin the alternator. I didn't end up needing it but what i found at the time to possibly be the least hassle free way of running gadgets from the car was to use Marine style equipment... like replacing the car Battery with a high Amp hour AGM Marine battery, they are not as cheep as normal batteries but can be safely deep-cycled(cheap marine batteries arn't true deep-cycle). combined with a low voltage cutoff relay or switch, so the battery never drops low enough that it cant crank the car.I'm going to buy another power pack and do the daisy chain thing - connect car outlet to power pack, connect power pack to laptop. So power pack powers laptop. Car recharges power pack when driving. I may also get a solar panel setup and hook it up to the power pack.
Tint the back windows and buy a black bed sheet to throw ontop of everything in the back. try it.. see if you can see anything after thatWhat's the relationship between Fuzzybabybunny and Rabidsoggymoose?
What do you do about car theft? If someone were to steal my car - No big deal, but if I were to return home and my house was gone - BIG deal! One of the basic tips on safety is to make sure nothing of value is visible. That has to be challenging for you.

Personally, I would love to be able to do something like this. Although I think I would've picked a slightly different vehicle, at least a Forester, probably a minivan.
As to everyone saying you'll never get a girl, I think there is a chance. I used to work with a married couple who were both new engineers, so combined they were probably making right around 120K in Oklahoma. Well they just up and gave their notice one day because they were going to drive all over the place. They had fixed up an old VW bus and had been saving everything they could for a couple of years. I asked her where they were going to go first and she just said "probably Alaska, maybe South America." I was so jealous. So there are still some hippy chicks out there .
Seriously, I know a ton of girls who would love to just pack up & roll! That'd be a killer adventure

Until about three months in when she's changing her tampon in a Wal-Mart parking lot and hasn't eaten a fresh home cooked meal or slept in a real bed and realizes she's trapped in a Subaru Crosstrek 200 miles from the nearest airport.
