Make an outline of the essay and divide up the work. I've heard that helps for some people. I, on the other hand, type straight from my head all at once.

Tried, massive writer's block; I keep writing sentence after sentence only to Ctrl-Shift-Arrow then delete it all.

I tried that; I got this:

I was born in Worcester, MA sixteen years ago and have spent the majority of my life here in the United States. One might expect

Then I stared at it for about 25 minutes.

Thank you; you really don't know how reaffirming that statement is. Now I remember putting together an entire 15 minute video in one night to turn an English project in. I think I can write my essay now

I've got 5, but they're all on the Common Application, so I have to write one main essay, and then any additional essays any colleges might want individually because they are lame. For example, Dartmouth's supplement to the application doesn't ask for anything more than 5 words to describe yourself; UPenn's application asks for 3 essays.

I actually started on my apps. I just have two more essays for my common app supplements, an application for a supplemental program, and 2 standalone apps.

Now that I look at that, I have quite a bit of work to do

Oh well, it's Christmas Eve. I'll work on the 27th!

I am so glad, I finished all of my 15 apps last Tuesday. Massive relief and been playing games all day since. Don't worry they will go by fast!

If you have to BS some of your papers and choose a topic your professor knows little about if you can. Note this is only if you cant think of anything to write about.

My bad, should've made the topic title more specific. Essays for the 2 or 3 college courses I've taken were easy as hell to write; you can BS anything and as long as you're not flat out lying or you don't have huge grammar/structure errors in your essay, you're good to go . It's these damn college application essays that are killing me.

One hour later and my essay reads:
I was born in Worcester, MA sixteen years ago and have spent the majority of my life here in the United States. Growing up in America

I need to do mine, too. I'll do them during the week some time. I only have about 5, so I'm good.

You know those essays about inviting historical figures to dinner parties? Well, I was going to write mine about some serial killers/criminals in a domestic venue: Jeffrey Dahmer working the crockpot (with a head inside), an Briton known only as Jack getting the mean from a slaughter house, BTK supplying the bound and slaughted animal, Ted Bundy tenderizing it with a club, etc.

You think that could work or would it mark me as psychotic? I think I definitely could make it interesting, but it is a matter of whether it is a taboo subject matter or not.

I've got two 500 word essays, the main essay for the Common Application, and one for Cornell's College of Engineering. Dartmouth is awesome and only wants 5 words . Harvard has an optional, unspecified length essay. UPenn has a bunch of stupid short answer questions; a mandatory < 1 page essay, and an optional one. Princeton wants a 300 word essay and an essay for the College of Engineering.

ahhh, good old UCs.

I had to write those essays, 3 short answers + 1 long answer for Stanford, the common app long answer + short answer, 3 short answers + 2 long answers for Penn, 2 short answer + 2 long answer for Northwestern, and I don't even want to LOOK at Columbia, Brown, Emory, or HMudd right now ...

Latest development in my essay:
I've now heard the SNL Dick in a Box skit about 5 times since I've started writing this damn thing.

When you've got writer's block this bad, do you guys think it's worth it to just put it off until the next day?

Reminds me how I had to turn in 5 graduate school applications two weeks ago, in the middle of my finals week. WORST WEEK E V E R. I'm just glad I turned them in on-time. Now I have another two months to turn in 6 more applications.

Oh the joy
