As a follow-up to my earlier thread, I took my broken piece of shit iPad 2 into the local Apple store and met with Sara. She plugged the iPad into one of their power supplies, crossed her arms and said, "huh."
"That's what I said," I mumbled.
After staring at it for about a minute, she said, "Sometimes they just need a hard reset."
After completing the hard reset, she stands back, crosses her arms again, and says, "I can just get you a new one if you like."
"That would be great," I say. "Thank you."
Ten minutes later, I walk out with a replacement. Experience = 5 bajillion times better than phone support.
