My "local" Circuit City, as in an hour drive away....for me it's local, had stacks of Turtle Beach Santa Cruz sound cards on clearance for $25. Not too bad a price for a still-decent sound card.

The CC I saw it in was in Savannah, GA. The price was a straight $25.00, but glad to see others are finding it in other spots in the country. Still a darned nice card for the price......not an Audigy 2, but then again, neither is its price.

No, the Santa Cruz is one model of card from Turtle Beach.

Link to Newegg's description of the TB Santa Cruz.

In fact, the Turtle Beach was the only sound card. It is being phased out in favor of Montego, Catalina and Riviera. If your thing is recording music in stereo, Turtle Beach is an outstanding card and an outstanding bargain -- even at it's preclearance price.

Uhhh... I think they had it right before... with Turtle Beach being the company and Santa Cruz being the specific card.

I owned one and built 2 other systems with them.

Also, I find your link pretty amusing

Still love my Santa Cruz in my computer right now. None of the software issues or glitches experienced with creative products.

ah the good old Santa Cruz... wonder how it compares today to cards like that Chaintech's AV-710 and Mad Dog Entertainer 7.1 which use Envy24hts chip.

This is a good card? I was looking at the Audigy 2, and was wondering if I'd be disappointed

I agree..... ...... what a linkage!!!

Turtle Beach is the company........Santa Cruz is a model of sound card in Turtle Beach's lineup of sound cards.

Here's a link to an actual real-live pic of the TB Santa Cruz box.

Notice the Turtle Beach in the upper lefthand corner or the words "Award Winning Technology by Turtle Beach" on the lower center of the box? Santa Cruz is the model, Turtle Beach is the company.

This was a great card when it was released 5 years ago........wiped a lot of competition off the face of the map. Solid, clean sounding card with a lot of options at the time it was released, and it won award after award. Even at its advanced "age", at $25 it's still a bargain!!!

Go for the Audigy 2, which is a slight improvement in sound quality.

Back when it was just the plain Audigy, the TBSC was the king for SQ, but the A2 is slightly better. There are cards that are better than the A2 (Chaintech AV-710 if you're only using stereo, EMU line if you're only using stereo, M-Audio Revolution or Terratec line if you're using multichannel), though they'll all cause a hit in gaming performance.

The TBSC for $25 is still a great deal if you want multichannel sound quality cheap, though.

Nope went by mine after work, didn't see a single one of those TBs. But they got a few SB Live 24-bit for $30 each, no clue if that is any good deal.

Avoid cheap SB cards--they tend to force the 48kHz conversion no matter what is the source freq. I have my TB card connected to Onkyo 600 via optical SPDIF--the best sound I've heard from computer so far.

Not sure what your post was inferring...the CC at Phoenix Metro also had a shelf tag showing $30.95. It scanned @ 24.96 however..

I've got 2 of these and an Audigy ZS. For the price, you can't go wrong. On my way.
