Not as bad as the UPS guy knocking on my door, then hauling ass before I answered. He left a $900 item at my door...

FedEx is covering their ass, they mentioned he was "independently contacted". Wink, wink.

Don't know if it's the same everywhere, but here drivers are their own business. They have to buy routes and are paid per package. They really are independent contractors. Some guys buy several routes, then pay someone else to deliver the packages for them and they just play manager.

I always hear a "thump" when my packages arrive. The driver throws it about 8-10' up onto my porch, never fails.

It looked like he threw the package over the fence. Are delievery drivers supposed to go into a fenced in yard? What if he got bit by a dog? The owner would respond, why did you go into the fenced in yard? Throwing the package might have been a little too much, but we really didn't see the throw did we? We can only accept the owners statement that he threw it 18 feet. It might have easly been less. Likewise, as we see, afterthefact, nothing was broken. I also wonder how much FedEX push their drivers to deliver as many packages as humanly possible. I do know that that they have special computers that compute the routes that create routes that have virtually only right hand turns to avoid delays and left hand turns are known to cause more accidents than right hand turns. Point being: FedEX push their drivers for quick package delivery, especially during the holiday season.

This happens to me too sometimes. I'm convinced they do it when the package is heavy and they don't feel like carrying it to your door. It's easier for them to just put the note on the door and make you go pick it up at the warehouse.

After this guy gets fired. Expect more things to be tossed over that fence from him.

I've had this happen also, it kindof sucks to schedule a package to get delivered on your day off only to have them, pull this crap.

I have no sympathy for anyone that buys two cheap ass laptops.
I have a great deal of sympathy for folks dealing with FedEx and UPS this season. You know damn well all those boxes arent going to be treated with TLC. A lot of kids might wake up Christmas morning to find all their presents broke.

i have had it happen twice. once we seen the Fedex truck drive down the street adn do a U turn. We were outside working/playing all day.

i come in and check it online. it says tried to deliver. i called fedex and reamed the guy out. they made a special trip out that evening to deliver it heh.

So, given how shitty delivery and not being at home is, why has no one figured out some sort of cage/bucket to drop off packages into?

Like, obviously a fridge won't fit in there, but a reasonably sized container marketted by Fed Ex/UPS/post office should be available. I noticed that Fed Ex or Purolator lets you sign a waiver for them to drop off a package with no signature in the future. These companies have to be wasting some amount of money coming back and forth.

I had one do that to me. Was working in the front yard and saw a FedEx truck drive right past us. My wife thought it was odd since she knew we were expecting a package. She walked to the street and looked at the truck. I guess the delivery woman saw us and turned around and delivered the package.

One day when I get me dream house out in the country, I will set up a special place for packages. Protected from the weather, and maybe with some bounce so the guys can just drop junk in there.

Cant do it in an HOA of course.

I get most stuff delivered at the Purolator address. That way the package stays there. They phone me and I go get it. I don't know if all carriers will do this though. It was the girl at the desk that had told me I could do that to prevent having to wait 3 days. For UPS packages they have to try 3 times, and they always do it when I'm at work.

Though I was just thinking, whenever I do happen to be home for a package, I have to sign. Even when I go pick it up I have to sign. What's the point of signing if they can just leave the package anywhere on your property at their own discretion?

Work at UPS for 2 years. People would shit themselves if they saw how packages were treated at the sort facilities.

Same here. I'll be at home, perhaps 15' from the door, and I get the note that says no one was here to sign for the box. Often it's not even a heavy item.

No doubt.
I'm always amazed too by packaging practices: Put the item in the empty box, then put packing material on top of it, because no one will ever damage the bottom of a box.

USPS completely trashed my PC that I over-protected and spent $80 to ship. It was very clearly thrown and the corners of the case were smashed in despite being suspended several inches from the walls and corners of the box (used original fitted packaging for the Antec 900 case it was built inside; dense foam was still intact despite the inserted corners being smashed). No insurance because the total value was too high and they would not let me insure it.

Why the hell would you ship a high end machine with USPS?

That's YOUR fault.

I was shipping a lot more than that. There's only so much you can carry when crossing the country on a motorcycle.

You should have taken it to UPS or FedEx then. I don't think there is much of a limit to their insurance. A friend of mine - who owns his own business - shipped a $15,000 package with insurance through UPS. Granted they broke it, refused to cover it and he is taking them to small claims court but he was still able to purchase insurance on it
