Ronstang

Hmmmmm, interesting. I just did a 90 day search in ALL FORUM CATEGORIES for any Threads that have 'plex' in it. I say interesting because the search result showed no Post by Ronstang. Mind linking your Post thread?

Also, calling Plextor on your Batman phone with 'authentic phone sounds' that you bought at CVS doesn't necessarily mean the information is correct. Care to give us some NAMES, NUMBERS AND DATES?

Of course I'll bow to you in utmost respect, being YOU ARE THE ONLY PERSON ON THIS PLANET that actually got someone from Plextor to say they manufactured all the drives. I'll bet MaximumPC would love to have you as a writer, being the supersleuth that you are.

<< Does anyone have ACTUAL PROOF that the TDK is a REBADGED Plex? No, I didn't think so. >>

Well this may not be proof, but it seems to be popular opinion that Plextor makes TDK and Plextor licenses Burn Proof from Sanyo. I read a review over at cdrinfo.com about it. They ALSO mention that if you flash the TDK 12/10/32 with the Plextor 12/10/32 firmware update you will have a Plextor.

So basically it's the software and the price that you should make your buying decision on. (Or I guess if you just want to spend extra cash for a specific brand...)

No, we must forge on in our pursuit of the truth. We will not quit until every living American knows that the Iomega and the TDK and made by the far superior PLEXTOR company. Therefore they can not be as good. ALL HAIL PLEXTOR!!!

Plex 12/10/32 vs. TDK 12/10/32???

If you want a real Plextor get a Plextor.

If you want a fake Plextor (you know what I mean) then get a TDK.

Plain and simple.

Namuna,

Would you please answer the questions that I posted to you earlier?

Are you claiming that:
1. the Plex/TDK/Iomega and the Sanyo CRD-BP1300P are that same drive.
2. Sanyo makes them.

Do you have proof?

I have proof that Iomega is a rebadged Plextor. I'm using 1.07 firmware from Plextor in my Iomega 12x10x32x RW right now. Here's a link where you can do it yourself to find out.Firmware

Here's some facts:

1. TDK makes parts for many things, but not for building CD-RW's themselves Here's what they make.
2. We already know Iomega IS a rebadged Plextor.
3. All reviews say the Iomega, TDK, and others mentioned above are identical to Plextors drive.
4. Plextor actually manufacture's CD-RW drives.

Question: Why in the hell would a manufacturer of CD-RW's (Plextor) ever ever buy them from another manufacturer (Sanyo)?

Answer: They wouldn't!! Why? Because they can make the damn things cheaper than buying them DUUHHHHHHH!!!!!

I bought a Plextor with an Iomega name on it for $99.00 ,,,,,then sold a second one I bought for the same price on FLEABAY and made $90.00 on the sale. Now, my first drive that I kept cost me $9.00.

Folks, that's the way to shop!!

I own a rebadged Plextor and I'm proud of it!!!

Hkchan,

No, I didn't say that Sanyo makes all these drives...I said THE ONLY THING YOU CAN REASONABLY CONCLUDE TO HERE IS THAT THESE DRIVES ARE LIKELY THE SAME. Where do you see in any of my Posts that I ACTUALLY SAY that Sanyo DEFINITELY is the OEM of these drives?

The other piece where I state that the drive is LIKELY to be a Sanyo is because a: BURN-Proof is a Sanyo Trademark, b: Sanyo is an OEM Manufacturer, c: The Sanyo specs are EXACTLY the same.

Unlike all these other "It's a rebadged Plextor FOR SURE" Brainiacs that base their information on heresay, my information and reasonings come from specific quotes, reliable links and references to trade magazines.

I'm sick of this, you people want to believe the drives are DEFINITELY REBADGED-PLEXTORS based on ramblings...Be my guest.

I think it's hilarious that a reviewer would actually say the TDK drive was better than the Plextor when they are the exact same piece of hardware.

Namuna: Plextor tech support have confirmed the TDK drive is a rebadged Plextor.

Namuna,
Haha. That's funny. Did I say you said ......? I was trying to confirm your position since you seem to be so knowlegeable on the subject. "We" pretty much agree that the Plextor, Iomega and TDK are the same drive. The question is who makes it. What's your reliable links, references say on the subject? Do you know? What happens if someone can actually prove that (1) Plextor makes the Plextor, the TDK and the Iomega 12X/10X/32X CD-RW drives with BURN-Proof and (2) The Sanyo drive with the "same" spec. is a different drive?

hkchan,

Hey, great man. I've already got the TDK VeloCD 121032. If someone confirms that it's definitely a Plextor Manufactured mechanism, then yippe-ki-yay.

My point from the get go is that if all these drives are THE SAME (whether Plextor or Sanyo or PeeWee Herman made them), then get the HOT DEAL by finding the TDK for ~$220 or under (since it's got the $50 rebate) because it got an EXCELLENT write-up in MaximumPC magazine.

Also, anyone that accepts as truth when people say it's "DEFINITELY a rebadged Plex", and for proof they offer hearsay and links to hack sites....Wellll, I've got one hell of a HOT DEAL on a bridge in Brooklyn.

Iomega and TDK 12/10/32 drives are the same hardware as the Plextor drives. While TDK has done a good job of keeping their drivers current (v1.07 firmware available - based on the Plextor v1.07,) Iomega has not. Anyone owning or considering the Iomega drive can download a patch which will allow the Plextor firmware upgrade program to recognize your drive as a Plextor and flash the eeprom with the lastest Plextor firmware. Once this is done, your drive will for all intents and purposes be a true Plextor drive and you will henceforth go to Plextor for your firmware upgrades.

There is also a version of the utility which will do the same for the TDK as well, though it is unnecessary unless you have some burn software which does not like your drive calling itself a TDK even though it supports the Plextor.

Here's the link:

To those atheists among you who so loudly declare that our Iomega and TDK drives are not the One True Plextor, well guess what, it really doesn't matter. I will admit that I have not actually cracked one open to compare the internals. That said, the fact remains that these drives do accept and utilize the same firmware, support all the same features, and have identical performance in benchmarks. Even if you ignore Occams Razor, whether one is hand-crafted by the Plextor Elves themselves and another drifted into existence through a dimensional rift is completely irrelevant from a users perspective. They all have similar warrantees, they all have the same MTBF ratings, and they all perform the same.

So Namuna, mr. senior member, you are a moron if you think we are going to take what you say seriously since you can't even grasp one of the FUNDAMENTAL rules of the Hot Deals forum, which is coupon codes ARE NOT ALLOWED TO BE POSTED.

Hellraven,

Actually SCHMUCK, I'm rather surprised this thread has continued without being locked (especially with IDIOTIC nonsense replies from GENIUSES like you).

I had hoped a Mod would see my coupon code and shut this thread down once and for all.

Anyone know where I can find a deal on a 2X Hi-Val drive? I no longer want my TDK because it's not a true Plextor and I feel inferior compared to all of the cool people that paid more money to get a drive that says Plextor on it.

7lords,

I actually do have a 2X hi-val drive. I assume your "lowly non-plextor TDK" is used, as is my 2X hi-val, so let's just call it an even trade, no?

Nack

OK, since (surprisingly) this thread still has not been locked, I am going to make my true confession...

I'm not ashamed to admit I have owned two Plextors and I loved them both.

There, I said it. Whew. I'm glad I got that off my chest.

Oh, BTW, I don't care if Yoda made it, I got it for a good price when Amazon was giving $50 off b4 Xmas. I just *HAD* to check out burn-proof and some 12/10/32 burnin' sweetness is good, baby! So all I can say is get one of these drives from somebody, even if it says YUGO on the front!

Exactly. Nothing better than being able to burn at 12X while you are doing other stuff, no matter what the brand is. The 32X top ripping speed is nice as well (although that is the speed on the outside of the disk, it starts at 16X).
