Would have been cheaper if you just got a hotel room for the night...or went back to work for your gym bag.

self ownage of the year

1) leaving keys at work, a 1-2 hour subway trip away
2) calling locksmith instead of having a spare key hidden
3) agreeing to $600+ locksmith service instead of hailing a taxi for <$100 roundtrip or staying at motel6 for $125
4) posting about it on ATOT

I wonder if it's a cover business for a drug operation - I have fairly basic lockpicking skills and I can still pick any deadbolt or tumbler style lock, it might take me 20-30 minutes of messing with it but geez, I'd expect a locksmith to be able to pop it open in a few minutes.

Wow, you must be loaded or just dumb.

Did you have some good ganja at home or something that you just had to smoke?

Lol I locked myself out of my car with all the keys in it because I put the spare in my backpack.

I broke in with a tree branch and a screw driver.

I wedged the the screw driver between the window and door and slipped the tree branch in and hit the unlock switch.

My car is pretty old so it wasn't all that difficult to wedge the screw driver in.

i'd stay at millennium

OP, on a more serious note, this place sounds VERY shady. If I were you, I'd change out the lock they put in there. Who knows if they have a master key or something and can come by and easily rob you when you're not around. This is just a bad situation. Changing a lock isnt hard - get one from Home depot or Lowes and change it yourself. The extra $100 will be worth it for the peace of mind

edit: but then again, they are locksmiths. IF they wanted to rob you, they could get in there, their lock or not

I can't believe this is the first time changing their lock has been suggested in this thread. I would not trust those d-bags for a second.

Sorry OP. That's a hard way to learn a lesson.

Are you suggesting that he takes the locksmiths gold?

I was wondering the same thing.

Also, if the OP doesn't have a car I understand the lack of transportation thing. After 7pm I couldn't get back to work using public tranport aside from maybe a bus that would take 4 hours (like he said it would). I have a car though so I would have surely driven back to work.

Why didn't you just break the window and then call for someone to fix the glass? Would have been cheaper.

The OP also ran the risk of getting his place broken into if he told them no.

Op: $420?!? No way, Im going back to the gym to get my keys?
Russian Jew: Why are we here if you know where your keys are?
Op: Because it's going to take me 2-4 hours to go get the keys!
Russian Jew: Ohhhh okay! <smirk>

climb in, replace window for much less.

this is crooklyn we're talking about... I'm not so sure you want to sleep with an open window. Besides, most windows have bars over them there.

I don't mean to paint it as south central LA, but it's not exactly a place in the suburbs all quiet. My wife is from there... seen it all... her street is somewhat better but even there some guys broke her brother's car window to steal a GPS, then they left stuff of his at his front door to taunt him.

About having cars there, people in Brooklyn drive them once a week, if that... they also have to get up early and move them once a week to the opposite side of the street for sweeping... not really worth it.
