Hi,
I just brought a MX700, fully charged it, and now, what do i do?
What i mean is, do i put it back on the charger when ive finished, or when the batterys have run down?

Hi,

Contrary to poular belief - partially charging the battery in your mouse will increase the longevity of the battery over a "full discharge". Some people mention that some types of battery do/don't exhibit "memory" effects (actually memory like because its most likely not THE memory effect) and that partial charging can shorten the life of your battery. The is not generally true. So, I say go ahead and put it in the cradle when not using it. If you want to make a difference, if you think its fully charged - but you're not using it anytime soon, turn off the trickle charger unit.

Here's a handy quick guide (though not the most polite!) to give you a little info if you want it.

battery guide

Good luck,

Andy

finally got yourself a MX700 I charge the mouse when I go to sleep every night. You kidding about it not anymore accurate than your Intellimouse Optical V1.0 right. The MX700 is the most accurate one I have ever used.

For wireless technology this mouse is at the top of the heap...I love the battery life...and I used a little trick to increase battery life also...if you replace the batteries inside with Monster Rechargeables it gives you another hour or two of battery life and they are also quicker to charge...just a tip.

Upto now, ive used it about 4 hours a night, cos ive been at college, and when i put it back in the charger at night, it "says" its recharged almost the moment that i put it on.
Either is a very fast charger, or it didnt use much power within those four hours. Great mouse though. Amazingly comfy.

BoomAM -
Do you game a lot? Many FPS? If you don't, I guess I could see why you don't notice a difference, but in games such as UT2003, I know I could use an improvement over my intellimouse optical.

If u are only using it 4 hours then try to charge it, it might not charge since the batteries are still fully powered. Only when your mouse light is blinking green then its charging.

Still fully charged after 4 hours. Its must`nt use much power then.
When the green lights permantly on, then switches off, then does that mean that its fully charged?
Cos thats whats happened the last two nights that ive had it. Used for 4 hours, then placed on charger, green light on, no flashing.

Excelsior, Ive only play FPS games.
Ive played MOHAA, JK2, Unreal2, UT2003, SS, SS2, IGI, IGI2 Demo & Tribes2 with the MX700 and it doesnt seem any more accurate. Must be me then.

This is a little of subject but I just got my MX700 and think it is great. BUT... now that I have it as soon as I started playing unreal 2 it crashed after a couple of minuets. I restarted and it and after a couple of minuets it crashed again. I remembered someone saying that the EAX doesn't work right in Unreal 2 so I turned it off and all seemed well. SO... I played unreal tournament 2002 and It also crashed. Neither of these ever crashed before plugging the mouse in.

I unplugged my microsoft explorer mouse and pluged in the mx700. Win XP automaticaly recognized it. I didn't install the mouseman software because I remember past failings of it with previous mice. This is a great mouse but should I just chalk up the crashes to coincidence?

If you search the forums, ive made a post to a fix for the EAX problems in Unreal2, it works in UT2003 as well.

I read the post you mentioned. I haven't tried it yet but do you think it might have someting to do with the logitech mouse? I have never had the problem untill I plugged this mouse in. Also, does installing the software help with the accuracy? I'm not exactly thrilled with the accuracy I'm receiving in UT2003. I didn't install the mouseman software though.

My MX700 works fine in all of my games.
Ive heard that you can use 5 of the buttons, if you install Intellipoint instead of Mouseware.
As for the accuracy, the accuracy is mainly defined by the mouse, not the software. Becides, with XP, there an options to "improve pointer precision" so accuracy wont be affected.

I was wondering how long your batteries last without recharging? I just got mine and I'm going to test it now. Do you think the batteries will really last 5-7 days without recharging?? Also, does the mouse go into power-save mode when not in use (when its just sits on the desk)?
The batteries it came with are cheapo types. I don't think it will last that long (6mo-1yr?)

Alright, After one day of use the red light is now flashing. Do you think this is right? It was fully charged last night (2/20) and I used it for much of the day without putting it back in the cradle. According to the manual, when the red light flashes I would have about 1 days charge left.

hmmmm, let me know what you all think.

I use it probably 10+ hours a day and I never see the red light. I charge it while I sleep.

To saber800:

I tested my MX700 the same way as you did. This mouse eats batteries!!! The first time useage after fully charged lasts only 2 days. I used it about 10 hours a day. Then I recharged it and used less time per day and it lasted only 3 days. I checked the information of this mouse, logitech says a "normal" user can use it for 10 days after fully charged. I don't know how many hours are "normal".

After these two battery life tests, now I only use the mouse during daytime and put it back to the cradle at night.

Thanks for the info. I was wondering if it was just my mouse or if other people have the same situation with theirs. As long as I put the mouse in the charger at night I'm fine. Probably in the next few weeks I'll upgrade the batteries to stronger 1800-2000mAh (the ones that it came with are only 1700mAh no name batteries).

I have left mine off the charger for a week with no problems. One thing I have noticed with NIMH batteries is that sometimes when they are new, they want to be conditioned in order to gain full capacity. Just use them and recharge them every night for a few days, and they should come up to full capacity, where they will give you more than 2 days of use from one charge.

Also, I remember reading somewhere that you can make a sensitivity/poll count change to Win2K/XP that will increase the polling rate for the mouse, and thus increase the sensivity of the mouse (more polls/second = finer granularity of movement). Unfortunately, I don't remember where, but I ran across it as I was scanning review for the MX700, so you should be able to find it doing a google search for MX700.

Its done in device manager.
Its pretty much useless.
The MX700 will only do upto 125polls/second, so theres no use uping it to say, 400.

I purchased a bunch of NiMH 1800ma AA batteries and a Rayovac 1 hour charger for all my home needs. This charger is excellent for quick charging....therefore, I have a solid backup plan for my MX700. I've never managed to drain the batteries completely with a full day of computer use. This is an excellent mouse, best I've used....
