Logitec Japan ships 20/10/40 USB 2.0 external recorder

Logitec Japan announced a new USB 2.0 CD-RW drive. The new model "CDRW-i20J/US2" supports 20x writing, 10x re-writing and 40x reading speeds. The connection interface is USB 2.0 and the drive is external. There is compatibility with USB 1.1 but with reduced features down to 8x/4x/6x. For now there isn't a USB 2.0 driver for Win9X OS and you will forced to use the drive only with Win2k. The drive is expected to ship in the Japanese market end of July for the price of 33000 Yen ($265).

That's not a bad price for a USB burner with those speeds. So to use USB 2.0 all people need is a driver update and they can use their current USB 1.1 connections at 2.0 speed?

It's not true. They said this USB2 feature only works with their USB2-PCI adapter. Therefore, since
USB2 is currently only supported by Win9x but not in win2k, the only platform USB2 is supported is win9x.
They already have win2k driver in beta phase and available from their web site. By the way, they use RicoH
CDR inside of this rig.

Adaptec has USB 2.0 adapters. Probably there are other card makers out there that makes them but Adaptec is a good and reliable brand name.
