I'm about to buy one of those keypads for gaming.
there are two options:
Logitech G13
Razer orbweaver

Logitech G13 is a bit harder to find . Is this a out of production unit?
G13 has a screen which is a plus.

I havent used any of them, so i dont know the ergonomics.
Which one would you choose?

I can't comment on the Razer since I've never used it, but I love my G13. I did put my hand on the Razer in the store, but I immediately knew it didn't fit me. The G13 fits my hand much better. The screen is great, and can be helpful if you set it up right. If you have other Logitech products it will show info from them as well, like the current DPI of your mouse. At this point I don't know that I could game on my PC without my g13.

Worth noting that Razer requires you to setup a cloud account with them in order to fully configure the device.

Only advantage I can see with the Orbweaver is that it uses mechanical switches. Other than that, it appears to be hideously overpriced (like most of Razer's products).

Go Logitech. Razer's software is horrible and their warranty service sucks if you ever have any issues. Logitech will cover you for 3 years and are pretty lenient even after thaat

These are good points. Razer's software has a UI designed for somebody's idea of what a 13 year old would find "cool", and is barely usable.

Their hardware also has a reputation for being poorly built (my Nostromo is nowhere near as solid as the older Belkin version), so expect to need to use the warranty.

All on top of being forced to use a cloud account for device drivers.

were talking here about orbweaver and how orbweaver works with their software

Go back to ur obsolete nostramus and play a little with it

Yes, the same "tasteful" software used by the Nostromo :awe:

Anyhow, given that the poll results currently skew towards the Logitech, I'll let the OP make up his own mind. No need to spam the thread any further.

I'd go razer simply because it's mechanical and mechanical keys just feel so much better when you get used to them.

Ui design doesnt matter. What matter is funcionality. Actualy i like ui design, but that is not the point. Cloud account is minor thing. The most important is how does orbwiever works under off line and on line conditions. And it works great

Well here's functionality for you. I have a Blackwidow Ultimate. When I first got it the drivers were okay and I didn't have any issues. Then they moved to the Synapse and cloud format and also updated the firmware to the keyboard. Synapse will cause my typing errors for me. When I press "Space" the volume goes down. When I type the letter "A" it always does a double "A''. It will also cause the "Enter" key to be stuck as well. I thought it was my keyboard going bad but one day I just exited out of Synapse and it worked normally. I tried reverting back to the old drivers but because of the firmware update it will not let me.

A quick google search shows that this has been a problem with Synapse and the original Blackwidows on Window 8 but Razer hasn't bothered to fix it.

I really like my orbweaver stealth edition although it's a big investment if you're not really committed to using a keypad. I really like the quieter mechanical keys over the regular ones razor or logitech (in their keyboards their keypad is doesn't have mech as mentioned) uses. They don't sound as intrusive (headphones aren't a requirement while using them) and they're easier on my wrists while still giving good feedback.

I like the g13
my thumb can hit the 4 joy stick buttons ,2 side buttons ,one of which my thumb will rest on usually [the most used key like the pick up key] ,the other say map key,and the jump/space key[bottom right main key board]

that keeps my fingers mostly on the awd keys and left shift [pinky]

lcd I use for msi-ab

software [new game]
make a named profile using basic default keys mapped to the game exe.
remap keys on the fly as you get to know the game and what keys you use the most.
I do the same with the g500s mouse

start a game the mouse and g13 go to that game profile
exit the game , the mouse go's back to desk top mode.

before the g13 I found that the combo of the g15 and mouse pad , my arms were spread out too far , with the g13 combo my arms rest straight out. both waist rest on silicone pads . neither of my arms or hands ever get sore while gaming.

g13 and mouse/pad are on a up/down/tilt adjustable tray ,the g15 sits on the desk and used for any keys that were not mapped to the g13.

so the g13 works for me.

I've owned the old Belkin N52, Tartarus, Orbweaver and Logitech g13.

Based off experience I would stay away from Razer products as they seem to be of cheap build and breakdown easy. The Orbweaver, had issues with W and S keys duping itself everyone key was pressed. Took off the keypad, cleaned it out and same crap. This was 11 months into the 1 year warranty. Contacted Razer support, they gave me the run around. The year warranty passed and the Orbweaver is collecting dust in the closet. I then purchased the Tartarus, after just another year of use my key is starting to stick.

Prior to this, used the Belkin N52 for 5++ years before I had any issue. Am currently using G13, still new as it's a few months old but if it's anything like past logitech products am sure it will last me a good long time, hopefully as long as my G15 keyboard which is still going strong for 6 years.

Razer synapse borked my blackwidow ultimate keyboard during a failed flash completely ruining the onboard bios so I stay away from them.

I'm not sure why this was resurrected, but anyways, I have a Nostromo n52e, which is much the same as the Orbweaver (Razor bought them) and a G13. The Nostromo n52e is more ergonomically sound. The G13 has an LCD display and Lua scripting capabilities as well as more keys. The primary reasons I've gone with the G13 for the last few years is the Lua Scripting. Being able to apply logic to macros/scripts is a huge boon.

Synapse 2.0 is the stupidest idea. A cloud account for a MOUSE DRIVER? really?? Luckily the old drivers are still around.

When my logi mouse had troubles recently, went to hook up an old naga back up and found out that I had to remember some old login info in order to get the driver installed. haven't bought a razer since then so had forgotten about this cloud driver junk and probably wont be buying one anytime soon.

I use a G13 after many years of Belkin N52, which I still liked alot.. it took a while to get used to the different feel of the G13.
I liked my N52 so much I still have a spare, unopened in the box.

I had an issue with 1 key on my brand new G13 not being very responsive. I called Logitech and they took care of it easy and fast. Logitech really won me over with their support.
