Logitech G5 Problems

I just received my Logitech G5 from Newegg, plugged it in, turned my computer on, and now I'm using it. It seems like it skips around a lot and that's getting really annoying! Any ideas?

Well, let me ask you a couple of questions. Are you using the mouse on a desktop or a mousepad? If it's a desktop, is it something that would be hard for the mouse to track on? Same question with the mousepad. Also, have you installed the drivers for it yet? Finally, have you looked on Logitech's site to see if a new firmware would help? I know that they released one a while back to deal with the problems that people were having with the Icemat pads. You might try that as well.

2) Have you installed the Logitech software (Setpoint)? I have one, and I had to install their software package before I could use it/enable functions.

3) Is this a PC or a Mac? OSX drivers are not really compatible with the G5 and even though many people have issues with it, Logitech and Apple have done nothing to fix it (as far as I know).

software is installed, firmware is installed, mouse is being used on a mousepad (regular black cloth mousepad), I'm using the Windows XP operating system.

well considering its a laser mouse, it should track fine on any surface

check the sensor on the bottom doesnt have anything on it

the laser sensor thing is weird...it's recessed, and from what I can tell it's clean.

Make sure it's running the latest firmware.

SetPoint shouldn't have any effect on skipping, but the latest firmware does fix some tracking issues.
