I got one from BB the other day, I couldn't handle the wait for Amazon to ship it either.

How does this compare to the newer G5 with the dual side buttons? As far as I can tell it's basically the same thing except it has one more side button, one less DPI adjustment button, and the hyper scroll wheel thingee. Otherwise it appears to be the same. I'm trying to figure out if it's worth getting one or to stick with my G5, not to mention the second G5 and G9 that are new in box in my closet.

Spike- I had the G7 (which is just a wireless G5), and I'm a fan of the G500 more. The G500 is a little bit bigger and fits my hand better. The weights are kind of gimmicky, but they do work and I like all of them in there personally. The finish on the mouse I prefer over the G7 as well (the sides are a very rough finish that your hands stick to, with the center spot smoother plastic). I like the option of the clicky wheel vs free spin, and being able to choose them at will. Clicky is better for gaming, but free spin is much better for most other things IMHO. The sensitivity can be adjusted with Logitech's SetPoint software just like the G5/G7 so you can set it to what you want. The DPI adjust button placement is really good (out of the way, but can change it quickly still). The side buttons I prefer on the G500 style to the G7 and having extra buttons is good for games .

To summarize, me personally the G500>G7. If you like the G5/G7 though, I don't think it's really worth the upgrade unless you like the style of one over the other. If you like the "features" and layout of the G500, it's worth it.

I f'n hate Best Buy. I bought this last night for store pick-up. Got an email today saying it was ready and went to the store to pick it up and they didn't have it and no other store within 10 miles had it. I was so pissed. I hate Best Buy.

So the differences are basically what I thought... not worth it to me. The G5 all-ready has the weights, slick center, sticky side, and the center placed DPI buttons (I like having the up and down, not just one button like the G500) but the scrool wheel and the third side button would be nice, but not worth $40. Actually I'm still not sold on the scroll wheel. I have it as part of the wave pro wireless set for my work pc and the jury is still out though I am starting to like it.

Do you lose the ability to middle click with this mouse? Reason why I ask, is that some of logitech's notebook mice that have the hyperscrolling switches between scrolling modes using the middle click.

I currently have a G5 (that's not completely working all the time), and I'd love to replace it with this, but if I can't middle click, then I'll just get another G5.

Nope, you can still use the middle click. The button directly below (towards your wrist) from the mouse wheel is what changes the wheel from the "ratcheting" click to the free-spinning mode.

My VX Nano notebook mouse has the middle click replaced with the ratchet / free-spinning mode, like you mentioned. It sucks.

Thank you. Pictures and product descriptions don't really seem to state this. I think I'll pick one up if I can find it.

I can't stand the G9. Makes me want to rage how terribly that mouse fits my hand.
