But now, there is a Mod that is Nascar Racing 2005 Season, and it is all we race.
Don't confuse this with the EA crap.
Nascar Racing 2005 Season mod was pulled from most web sites due to action by First (the company that bought Nascar 2003).

However, you can get it with bittorent. Also check Yahoo groups.
It is not warez or pirate stuff.
Just a mod, like previous mods, but it was so good, First did not want it in be better than what First was making, so they threatened sites that posted it.
Many online racing sites have now moved up to this.
Still same basic 2003 sim, but with updates to 2005, and better physics.
You can actually hold your line 3 wide all the way around Daytona now, even if you are in the middle.

Same as previous versions, I bought Nascar Racing 2003 Season the day it was released.
Had all my friends buy it when it dropped to $5.
Now it is going for $80 to $100 on ebay.
It is that much for a reason.
It is the ONLY realistic Nascar racing sim you can get at any price.
2005 mod just makes it much better.
Nascar sold out to EA sports, and we will never see another good Sim for several years, until the EA Sports contract runs out.

Every gaming computer I build or own, is because of Nascar Racing 2003 Season. Half-Life2, UT2004, Farcry, are all good for a few days, but the thing that keeps LAN party going is Nascar.

Well put!

And lets not forget NSF 5 Porsche Unleased. You can get mods for that one as well getting new tracks and cars. I just got a mod for it yesterday so I can race with a 89 Chevy Camera Iroc!!! How cool is that! If unsure what Im talking about here is the site for NFS games.

Here is some for NR 2003

Here is one that will do about every racing sim out there including Viper Racing and Nascar Heat

Heres one I just have to try. Changes the layout of the screen and a tottaly different car as well!

Hey, I have one of the old MOMO Force. Leather wheel, paddles behind the wheel, aluminum pedals. Sitting in my garage catching dust. I never use it. Last time I used it was NFSU2, and the force feedback caused me to lose to my buddies because when the car slid, I couldn't correct fast enough because of the "realistic" drag of the force feedback, while my buddies just spun their wheels and kept from spinning out. I did play Nascar 2003 once, and it was really good for that. The weight of the force feedback helped me keep a straighter line than my friends who were all over the place. LOL, we never finished a single race because they would cause pileups. Oh yeah, the other problem I have with it is that it doesn't want to clamp onto my desks. My computer desk has a keyboard drawer that gets in the way and for LANs we use those folding banquet tables that have a metal bar underneath that gets in the way of the clamping mechanism. But, then again, I'll probaly have the same problem with any wheel that clamps.

Anyone interested in buying a MOMO Force? Probably less than 2 hours of use on it and I'm original owner.

Obviously from my name you can tell that Grand Prix Legends is my favorite game. I bought it the day it came out and have never looked back. My league has been around for four years. We have a lot of fun. I have the better red momo wheel and TSW pedals. I really like the setup.

And both GPL and NR2k3 were from the same basic company, which no longer exists because of EA Sports buying exclusive rights to many sports titles. If this was any other business, EA would have been sued by the government long ago. No matter how bad EA sports racing will or could be, no other company can legally sell a similar product. Same with football, although with Madden, they do have he best current and previous product (and only NFL product in the future due to deal the made with NFL).

And forgot in previous posts, Great Wheel! Get it now!

Great wheel for good price. I've been using the Red Momo for a few years now and still works great.

They never made a 2004. You may be thinking of EA Nascar 2004. Were talking about Serria made Nascar Racing Season 2003 which was the last one made thanks to stupid EA. You need to get your hands on because it spanks anything EA has ever produced. It has a more realistic track, AI, and car physics then any EA made including the new EA 2005 one just out. Installed that demo and right after giving it a shot uninstalled it.

2003 is very hard to come by but if you want I can sell you my Nascar Racing Season 2002 which is just as good in every way but there are no mods for it.

Need a hand - NR 2003 is not shipping anymore. Not really interested in taking the time to bid/chase on ebay.

Is GPL the next best thing for newbie kids/adults?

That and NR 2002. NR 2002 the graphics is all the same and when you patch it it updates AI and Physics as well to near 2003. You only loose not being able to mod it.

I've tried the Driving Force Pro and compared to the Momo Force (yes, I do have one... used heavily for driving games)... it's not a step up at all. It's a step down especially in normal wheel rotation mode. The only games that allow more than the standard wheel motion is PS2 games.

The Momo Racing also feels kinda cheap compared to the Momo Force. You can't really beat the Force with it's leather wrapped wheel with big aluminum paddle shifters and buttons similar to a real racing wheel. Oh, and complaints about the force feedback being too strong to hold powerslides? Just turn the feedback level down... it's easily adjustable.

Here are Logitech wheel settings for use with NASCAR Racing 2003. I found this post on another site along time ago and these settings have worked well for me. The settings were from Chad Sparks and posted at Sierra forum board. I hope he doesn't mind me posting these.

For the MOMO people, do this.

Start/Settings/Control Panel/Game Controllers.

Then..

Double Left Click on the MOMO, then click the Settings button (bottom right).

Then set these options...

Combined - unticked (ie: no checkmark) [this allows your brake and gas pedals to be on a separate axis, which is important to have]

Enable Force Feedback - ticked (ie: checkmark it) [this allows force feedback in games duh]

Overall Effects Strength - 97% [the reason for 97% and NOT 100% is a long and complicated explanation, but in short it helps oscillations from happening]

Spring Effects Strength - 0% [no Papyrus sims use this setting and oddly enough, if you set it to anything other than 0% you will get undesirable effects]

Damper Effects Strength - 0% [very VERY important to set this to 0%, this is probably THE most important setting, as it will greatly increase notchiness and wheel twitches, even though the Papyrus sims do not exactly enable it]

Enable Centering Spring - ticked [you are going to find this strange, because in the next setting I tell you to set it to 0%, which is odd because why not just untick it? well, there's a reason and here it is... if you don't tick this option and also don't have Damping set -which if your going with these settings you won't- then a strange phenomenon happens, you will find that if you turn your wheel rather sharply, the resistance of the wheel just "gives out" which is not something you want to happen. I will also admit that having this unchecked does appear to give slightly better forces -SLIGHTLY- but the repercussions just aren't worth it for the payoff. so in the end check this option]

Centering Spring Strength - 0% [this is IMPORTANT! I know it's weird, but you must set it to 0% - read above option for better explanation]

Then in your Logitech Wingman Profiler, create a Nascar 2003 profile and then set these settings as follows...

Steering Wheel Sensitivity to 33% [the reason you want to go down from the default 50% to 33% is because at 50% the wheel is too sensitive to tiny wheel adjustments... which is not realistic. drive your car and notice how far you have to turn your wheel... the MOMO have a large radius to turn, it's a shame most people only move it 5 degrees to either side. this setting should allow more precise driving and overall smoothness as well - and you can go down even lower if you wish, to say, 25% if you want to have even more movement, but I suggest 33% for starters at least, get used to that and go more later if you like the effect]

Steering Wheel Dead Zone - 2% [another long explanation would be needed and I don't feel like telling, but in short this also helps oscillations and twitchiness]

Accelerator Sensitivity - 55% [strangely, this option is the exact opposite of the Steering, INCREASING this option from the default 50% to 55% makes the gas less sensitive to the immediate input, in other words, you have to push down farther before the car gets more power. the default 50% is a little touchy - when you barely touch the pedal the car can spin out. 55% helps this from happening and overall gives a more natural and fine tune approach]

Accelerator Dead Zone - 2% [much the same reasoning as above, this helps from keeping your car getting to much gas too fast]

Brake Sensitivity - 55% [exact same reasons as accelerator, increasing this to 55% helps your brakes from locking up to fast. one word of note though is that I have modified my brake pedal to include the squash ball instead of the spring, so that may make a difference in your setup. just note that increasing this gives less immediate braking and can help if your tires are locking up too easily under braking]

Brake Dead Zone - 2% [same reasons as all the others dead zones]

Now, in Nascar 2003, enable the Force Feedback option under the Controls tab and you should run this setting in between 35-100 (60 being most common setting) depending on the track and more importantly, on your setup for that track (and of course how strong you like your forces). I know this is a pain to have to do at each individual track, but depending on your setup you will need to adjust the strength of the forces in game between each track change.

Just start out from 50 and work from there. the key to adjusting strength is this... if the wheel has a "notchy" feel, lower the setting till it JUST goes away, if it doesn't have a notchy feel, then raise it till you feel the notchiness and then lower it till it just goes away again. In essence giving you the most forces while remaining smooth.

Ahhh, I had that problem. Didn't think about fiddling with settings.

Most of us who bought the orig. GPL, enjoyed the mods, and upgrades, (new skins, etc), including files that would let GPL run on OpenGL or DirectX, as they came out. It was daunting to find and install the mods. Sierra made a demo of GPL with one track.

Jump to 2004, someone took the orig. Sierra released demo, put in all the community mods that were the best, (better graphics for the single track, and better skins for all the cars), and made the orig. demo availible with NO additions to the orig demo that couldnt be added individually if you searched for them all. Bottom line, the revised demo is not a "hacked" full game.

But, what many, many, people with GPL retail version have been doing, is installing the retail version, then download the 2004 demo

http://www.bhmotorsports.com/download/6447

and installing it into the same folder as the orig game is installed to. Your orig. retail game has all the orig. tracks, and the 2004 demo, installs the new better looking Watkins Glen graphics, and the beautiful car skin upgrades, and the game chooses the "newest" file dates, so you see the "newer" skins. You can can download loads of second party GPL tracks, from the link below, GPLEA. Be advised, running the new track graphics can give you low frame rates on older computers.

Sorry for the thread hijack, Funboy, but this really makes GPL a "modern" game, even if it is still non-computer controlled 1967 F1 cars.

I'll edit this to add a link to a incredible vid. of GPL with the new skins and sounds.

http://gplea.rscsites.org/

Click on cars, left side, then click on any of the Ferrari's, on the next page,

Watch the La Passione Rossa movie.

Have your speakers turned on, this is the updated Ferrarri skin. Game looks a little arcade-ish at times from the cockpit view, trust me, its not an arcade game.

But I have heard good reports otherwise from others. The MOMO Racing is the newer black MOMO wheel which replaced the red MOMO Force (which went out of production a few years ago and now sells on eBay for $300+ range) which is far inferior to the MOMO Force. But it does have a very similar FF engine which is good. It is the second best FF wheel you can buy currently.

Exactly! I bought two things (game controllers - wheel and joystick) from Justdeals and they were both junk! Refurbed? It looked used. Well used and didn't work. I sent both back for an exchange and what I received wasn't any better than what I sent back. I then just returned both items and after about a month and several calls and emails, they finally gave me my money back. I'll never buy from them again.

It looks like I was lucky because I just recieved a MOMO wheel from them and the wheel works great. I do not believe the wheel I recieved was a Logitech factory refurb unit. It was in an opened retail box and the serial number was still on the units id tags. I have bought Logitech factory refurb items in the past and all of them came in plain brown boxes, with new software CD, and the serial numbers crossed off with black marker on all the id tags. This one had the # still on the wheel but the power supply had the # blacked out with marker.

I just checked there and they now have new MOMO Racing Force wheel sets ($64.95); and both refurb and new MOMO Force (the red one). The MOMO Force with leather wrapped wheel is $89.95 shipped.
