Ive used my MX700 now for several months, and I love it. I am a hardcore gamer, and anyone who claims that a good USB or wireless mouse causes them lag is either just full of it and looking for excuses as to why the suck, or has a REALLY crappy computer otherwise.

IMHO corded mice are alot worse because the mice are lighter, and when you make to the extremes of the pad, the cord provides resistance.

I cant wait for this to come out... mostly for the lion battery.

and i'm the opposite, i'm sick of these slim/light mice that make me feel like i'm playing with a barbie computer. I have big hands, i need a bigger/heavier mouse. the mx700 rocks in games, haven't been able to feel any difference between that and any corded.

anyone who thinks one is better then the other in games will also probably believe their klipsch 5.1's will give them better frame rates.

To me, slimmer mice are easier to control and maneuver in games. Larger mice require more wrist motion, while the smaller mice can be moved with the wrist and/or fingers, which IMO makes aiming easier on smaller, more distant targets.

I'm opposite again, I agree with KnightBreed, and I suggest trying the MX300 because it's got the basic mouse shape that most of us should be familiar with and it's still got high accuracy with the MX engine.

So it uses a REAL LASER now and not just a red LED?
what next, a green laser version?
Don't lasers suck up a lot of power?

i find that when i used to use corded mice (which are inheritently light in weight to me) i found that my hand was inadvertantly gripping the mouse very tightly, to the point that it was hurting my hand enough that i had to stop holding the mouse after certain amount of time, i think it was because they were too light to me and moved too much/easily, so i felt (unconciously) that i had to grip them harder to keep them from moving around too much. i enjoy the heavier mice because they give me just the right amount of feedback back in terms. my hands are now a lot more relaxed.

plus in general i find them to be too small for my hands, whereas typically the wireless mice by design have to be a little bigger to accomodate the batteries, so i prefer wireless mice just by that little mental 'association' if you will.

anyway, to each their own

Of course, it's their imagination compiend with their need to be different and the fact that they enjoy griping.

I, for one, would like to say I love Logitech products. Even their inexpensive stuff is good! I own or have owned their mice, trackballs, speakers, and a keyboard. Even the z3 speakers I just got for $20 AR are really nice!

I've had an MX700 for probably over a year. It's my most favoritest mouse I've ever owned. I didn't think I'd ever upgrade...but maybe for an l33t lazer mouse...<G>

I like the fact that the MX700 is wireless...not that I sit far away from the computer or anything, but it's just nice to have that extra 2" of space when you need it. I haven't noticed any lag or other problems. I like the weight, too. The wired MX series are alright, but they seem to be getting lighter and lighter...I like the heaviness of the MX700. That's probably because mice like the 510 are aimed at gamers who want quicker reaction times. I also like the buttons on the MX700...very useful for 3D apps like Rhino 3D (go LogiGamer!).

It all comes down to personal preference, I guess. No one is forcing you to use any particular model or brand of input devices at home. I'm a fan of their mice, especially the MX700.

Props to Logitech for good stuff!

My MX 700 hooked up via USB doesn't show any of the kind of lag you are talking about. No matter how fast I move it back and forth, it comes to a dead stop and moves again with no noticeable lag. Of course, I have it hooked up to a nForce2 onboard USB 2 port, so maybe the newer spec is indeed better. Or maybe Via still hasn't gotten all of the gremlins out of their onboard USB (wasn't their onboard USB pretty buggy back a few years ago?) Whatever the reason, the upshot is that my MX700 is silky smooth on USB with Win XP SP 2.

yea, i don't really notice either. i just don't like having the cord bunch up or drag when the slack falls off the edge of the table. even if u tape it so there some garranteed slack, u can feel the cord dragging or resisting, rather annoying. i'll take a tiny bit of lag to avoid that.

I like how several non-english computer news sites have stolen my pic for their usage

I haven't heard anything more about this mouse or its release date sadly.

can you assign mouse buttons to keystrokes in the logi software yet? I'm not buying a logitech until you can do this, and cant fathom why MS removed the feature in their more recent mouse drivers.

regarding dpi and mouse latency and all that, yes it does make a difference for people who play a lot and have good/fast aim in "twichy" fps games in particular.

my problem is the size of the mouse...ive used the mx700 and a dual optical mouse from logitech...both were very nice at being smooth and accurate but they hurt my hands after hours of quaking...now i just use a $5 opti mouse that runs on the ps/2 port. i had to up the sens but it works great for me anyway. that mouse looks great but again it will be too big and uncofortable for me to use

I have the same issue with the flagship Logitech mice. They're all huge and have weird shapes. That's why I still use a MS Intellimouse Optical for regular use and a Logitech First Mouse 3 button for gaming. I simply can't stand scroll wheels while gaming. If Logitech made an optical version of that I'd take it.

Does anyone have a clue what the expected MSRP is? lol

MX 700 will be fine for me for a long time.

Looks interesting. I have an original mx500 which is great, the only reason why I'd switch is if I think another mouse feels better to me.

Used to get loads of threads (on another forum) with people not being able to do this. btw does it have to be a global setting or application-specific like the older ms driver can do? For the side buttons too?

these mice arn't gonna give you magical leet hax0r skillz in counter strike, same with people that buy 40$ mousepads and think they'll be CAL-i.

edit: it's nice to see that they are using lith-ion now

I have many mice:

Logitech MX510
Logitech MX700
Logitech MX500
Microsoft Explorer 3.0 (free because the 1.0 died)
Logitech standard optical
Logitech iFeel optical
Microsoft Explorer 1.0
Old PS/2 ball mouse...it works curiously well...

By the time I got my MX500, I didn't think mice could get any better. It was a huge improvement upon all other optical mice I'd owned, and all my optical mice were of course many times better than my ball mice. I bought a Logitech MX Duo for my mom, who hates cords. I can feel a significant difference between its included MX700 and my MX500, so there's definitely still room for improvement.

I built a nice A64 gaming computer for a friend last month and chose the MX510 to go with it. I used the mouse for about 12 hours while installing drivers, apps, etc. Then I played games on it. I hadn't expected to feel a difference, but there was an improvement from going from the MX500 to the MX510. It wasn't a huge change, but it was noticeable. I would have replaced my MX500 with the MX510, but I didn't like the shell of the mouse. The 510 was too sleek and made my hand feel sweaty, whereas my MX500 has a slightly grainy texture to it and doesn't give my hand an odd feeling.

Cliff notes:

Mice are still improving, and I'm sure the MX510 is not overkill.

try logigamer - lets you have application-specific settings, including specific keyboard keys for specific buttons
