anyone besides me think mice like this, and the MX510 are a bit overkill and a waste of money?

*raises hand*
I've got a new MX310 and it works fine. I don't need "20X more tracking power" whatever that is. This type of product is aimed at kids who have a lot of money to burn and don't yet realize it's a waste of time and $, IMO of course.

How is the MX310 btw? I was deciding between a 300 and 310, but got the 300...the 310 seemed kinda oddly shaped.

i had the MX310 for a few months, then sold it in the FS forum. The tracking of it is great and all, but it was uncomfortable. The shape of the mouse does not support the hand well, and got my hand/fingers sore after several hrs. I'm thinking of getting an MX510 to replace my MS3 since the price of them are going down. The mouse feet of my MS3 are worn, and I don't feel like buying teflon tape.

Why is this an improvement over the MX700 and traditional opticals? Simple. I have an MX700. GREAT mouse. But because of the LED (The problem the MX1000 fixes), the mouse (ALL optical mice to a certain extent) are EXTREMELY picky about what mousepad they run fine on. My Suprnova mousepad makes the mouse skip in some places, and my ATI Radeon 9700 Pro mousepad I got at a LAN party is simply horrible. I'm stuck using an increasingly dirty "dilbert" mousepad that has no problems.

Obviously if the MX1000 fixes this problem via the laser and lets me use any mousepad, this is a HUGE improvement! Also better tracking without using a mousepad will be nice.

Also, people are complaining about USB's 125hz refresh rate being too low. Are you mad? Monitors don't even GO that high in refresh rates, what's the point of the mouse cursor updating FASTER than you can SEE IT?

I did tests with a PS2 a while back. Once you hit the monitor's refresh rate (60-80 on most monitors, remember people, lower refresh rate means sharper image), it's impossible to tell the difference.

Obviously other factors affect performance; the mouse's refresh rate is NOT one of them. I'd rather use a USB mouse locked at 125hz than have to use ps2rate to force the refresh rate up.

looks a lot like a Microsoft mouse...hmm. I've wanted the wheel tilt feature for awhile. The cruise control rocker looks pretty sweet too. I like how my mx700 feels, the mx1000 will probably be even more comfortable. I'm using an optical mousepad, so the extra tracking power probably wouldn't make a difference for me.

But it's oh-so-cool

I love my MX510 and my Ratpadz mousepad does feel better than a cloth mousepad in most fps such as cs and other half life mods. Call me crazy but it's true.

these mice arn't gonna give you magical leet hax0r skillz in counter strike, same with people that buy 40$ mousepads and think they'll be CAL-i.

edit: it's nice to see that they are using lith-ion now

I have many mice:

Logitech MX510
Logitech MX700
Logitech MX500
Microsoft Explorer 3.0 (free because the 1.0 died)
Logitech standard optical
Logitech iFeel optical
Microsoft Explorer 1.0
Old PS/2 ball mouse...it works curiously well...

By the time I got my MX500, I didn't think mice could get any better. It was a huge improvement upon all other optical mice I'd owned, and all my optical mice were of course many times better than my ball mice. I bought a Logitech MX Duo for my mom, who hates cords. I can feel a significant difference between its included MX700 and my MX500, so there's definitely still room for improvement.

I built a nice A64 gaming computer for a friend last month and chose the MX510 to go with it. I used the mouse for about 12 hours while installing drivers, apps, etc. Then I played games on it. I hadn't expected to feel a difference, but there was an improvement from going from the MX500 to the MX510. It wasn't a huge change, but it was noticeable. I would have replaced my MX500 with the MX510, but I didn't like the shell of the mouse. The 510 was too sleek and made my hand feel sweaty, whereas my MX500 has a slightly grainy texture to it and doesn't give my hand an odd feeling.

Cliff notes:

Mice are still improving, and I'm sure the MX510 is not overkill.

It you wanted to you could swap the mouse shell's although i think the MX510 looks cooler, it isn't as rough your right.

Hey you know what would be an awesome idea for these mice? Make a single mouse that can switch between wireless and wired!

Mouse doesn't look too bad imho. I rather it be comfortable in my hand then look awesome & feel terrible.

I can't be bothered to read the entire thread, apart from to say that that mouse looks pretty damned 1337.

well people have different requirements. i tried the 310 for a day, it was ugly(subjective) but well, build quality was less, it cost less after all, less buttons really griped me, and the shape bugged me.

i guess some people just have smaller hands

While I am certain that comfort is a priority, I think more and more mice are being shaped like this for health reasons regardless of whether it looks like a spaceship (since when were mice style icons anyways?), the way they make you hold your hand more sideways keeps your wrist bones from rubbing together which i and most everyone here knows can make your hand, wrist, and whole arm hurt for days.

I hated the shape of the new microsoft mice but tried one for a week and noticed a huge difference in how my hand and arm felt after a full day in front of the computer.

Just some little info for you since I am doing a review of this mouse (Yup Gamiong Nexus is my site), the mouse recharges to a full day's worth of usage in 10 minutes and a full recharge takes 4 hours (from the press kit)...... and since it uses a laser, there's no more RED light coming from the bottom of the mouse. It's completely dark when in use.,

I've been waiting for something like this to get a cordless mouse...I held off on the MX700 but I think I may pull the trigger on this one.

Anyone found a site that carries it yet?
