Anyone got any experience with this mouse, in games such as Quake 3 etc..... Button assignments seem to be the big deal with logitech

I would really like to know also. From what I've read the tech of the mouse is superior to any other. I've looked around all the stores in my area and I cannot find one to see how it feels

I was at a LAN party and I saw someone with this one. It felt aweful! It was one of the worst mice I've ever felt as far as comfort. I also found the precision to be just as good as my Intellimouse 3.0 It didn't seem better or worse to me as far as precision. But it feels horrible.

Dual optical still the best.

Sorry nope, the Dual Optical scans at 2000Hz,only one sensor is active at any one time since the DSP decides which optical sensor is giving the best reading, the new MX series scans at an incrediable 8000Hz.I`m going to be buying the MX500 as soon as stocks arrive so will let you know, but that`s still a few weeks wait for me here in the UK.

i've always had a horrible time w/ any special buttons w/ logitech + games.. The wheel doesn't work w/o the patch from their site either (at least for me). When i had my mouseman and optical mouseman, the thumb buttons were always bound to shift or ctrl.... in games, i would notice lag before it actually responded. How many times have I died because i could switch to a weapon on time? If you bound it to "back" or something, games wouldn't see it. Altho, binding to an F key seemed to alliviate the problem a bit.... go figure.

As for the design, it looks like MS's current wireless optical explorer... I really like that. I will try to swing by a bestbuy or compusa to check it out for myself.... but i won't get it until I can get it for under $30.. i can't justify spending more than that on a mouse

If you're having a problem with the wheel in games then make sure it's assigned to "middle button"
I have both my thumb button and the wheel button as "middle button" on my dual optical.
Never had a problem.

Logitech aren't always the best for gaming, for all the reasons you buy a mouse for gaming for..

However, I think i've seen one good Logitech mouse, however I have no idea what model it was, sorry

Mutilator why assign 2 buttons to the same function? that defeats the purpose of having that extra button, Id like to be able to bind any button to any key on my keyboard. Logitech needs to take some serious lessons from microsoft.

lnguyen - If you don't intsall the mouseware software then you won't have that problem with games. I know its dumb that it does that but it works perfectly without the software. All of the buttons take on standard functions, which is fine for me at least..because that is what I would assign them to anyway

the thumb button never worked 100% for me w/o the drivers. the thing is, i really did use my thumb button as ctrl, i used it more so than gamming, so not using the drivers wasn't much of an option for me. oh well.

I am a rock hard gamer, Q3rail to sof2, play an average of 8 hours a day. record was 21hours straight (sof2)..

During the quick jerks to check my east and west my intelligent optical mouse from MS used to skip a rate or frame. there is no more skipping, the mouse is way bigger than the optical, built better and just way better in my opinion.

Question I have is....are all the buttons bindable? WITHOUT having to bind 2 keys to the same function.

I dont know what is up with Logitech these days. They have not designed a comfortable mouse since the three-button mouseman-pro aka Gaming Mouse. Fortunately I stocked up on these a year or so back when they were clearing them out for $10 a piece. No mouse has been designed since that fits the hand quite as well...even the Explorer, which i just recently tried and tossed to the drawer. Sure the technology may be great but what use is it if it feels like a lumpy turn in your hand.

Just the opposite for me. The MX 500 feels like it was made for my hand. It's hard to get more comfortable than that

I've always liked Microsoft's mice for gaming. I am using an Intellimouse Explorer 3.0, which I love. They also have a good RMA system. They sent me this mouse without even making me send my broken one back. It took nearly 3 years to start malfunctioning, and it wasn't even a 3.0 version, so don't worry. However, Logitech's latest optical cordless mouse got praise from www.hardocp.com for being an excellent mouse. I haven't tried it myself, but it looks pretty nifty. It carries a high pricetag though. =\

I have had MX500 now for a few days replacing a Dual Optical. I have never liked the feel of MS mice so cant compare to them.

- Fits my fairly small hand like a glove. After Dual Optical it did feel a little strange for a while but now I dont want to go back
- precision: cant tell the difference from Dual Optical
- gaming: only played BF1942 with it (cant get myself away from it). No problems, though I only use left & right button and wheel for games
- the extra buttons are really nice, I use larger thumb button for double-clicking and smaller one as 'back' and top buttons for switching between applications and scrolling
- the issue with lagging scrolling with Mouseware seems fixed, read more about it in Software forum
- looks: very nice, even my gf likes it
- material: the black area keeps it glued to my palm

Overall: excellent mouse and just about perfect for me. Just the extra thumb button makes me prefer it over Dual Optical

About 3 weeks ago i bought a dual optical from BB (BestBuy)...and i totally loved the mouse !
Especially how it felt in my hands.

About the same time i got my Dual Optical (which i ordered online) Logitech made this big announcement that they now have "better" mice (MX700,MX500,MX300) with a better sensor and stuff - so i got kinda mad and returned my Dual Optical to the next BB.
They didnt have the MX500, only the MX300 and MX700.
I would never buy a mouse like the MX700 (too expensive, heavy...etc...)....so i got the MX300.

In comparison to the Dual Optical the MX300 feels "simpler" (DOH! It has no thumb button) and somehow "less thrills" - but i have it now for about two weeks and i do like it. Although i wish they would have the new MX sensor with the Dual Optical Design.

The mx300 is a no-thrills, but very precise mouse. I have no probelms whatsoever with stuttering or lags....(dunno..never had, since the Dual Optical was my 1st optical mouse and now the MX..so i dont know "bad" optical mice

If i'd to compare Dual Optical and MX300 i'd say the Dual is more 'mature' (in feel)...while the MX300 feels more like a smaller but precise surgical instrument. I think it's a matter of personal preference. Both mice are definetly very good. (And yeah..the MX has definetly a harder/louder 'click')

I use the mice in Win XP..on the PS2 port (set to 200hz refresh rate, better than USB ...and i use mouseware only on Win98.

The original three-button Mouseman (no wheel) were great. I still use one at work in CAD applications. However, I use a Mouseman dual optical at home and I have found them to be about the same as far as size, comfort, etc.

I've had an MX500 for a few weeks now and I like it for overall gaming. My mouse before this was a Razer Boomslang, but it was starting to die on me so I needed a new mouse. I've grown pretty comfortable with this mouse, but there is 1 thing I hate about it. The mousewheel is a total POS. It just feels wimpy, hard to use, and not very sensitive. There are many times when I would scroll the wheel and nothing registers. The mousewheel on my old Boomslang kicked major ass. I'm fortunate that I dont use the mousewheel all that much in games, it's passable for scrolling applications. But for gaming it's unacceptable. However, that may or may not be a big deal to you. It's an annoyance to me, but something that I can live with.

If you uninstall the mouseware stuff logitech supplies, the scroll wheel works perfectly fine. Must be a driver bug or somthing. Of course, then you loose the programmability of the mouse buttons...

Bah, that sucks. I'll stick with Logitech's crappy drivers for now. The mousewheel still works, it's just not very accurate. I use the other buttons so I dont wanna lose that functionality.
