I'm looking for a new mouse, and the MX series by logitech is what I have decided upon, cuz they fit my hand perfect and haev a blue light instead of red and higher accuracy whether i can tell or not.. But, I'm having trouble deciding whether wireless is really the right decision for gaming, I do a lot of UT2003 and Tact Ops and Counterstrike playing, so it's pretty damn important that it functions right, I've read many reviews about it and how well it work good, but one caught my attention, they said and showed the optical sensor being on the very edge of one side, instead of being centered like on the MX500. I know this is probabily because the mouse is very crowded inside fromt he shots they took with out the casing, but how would this affect use of it? Would it not feel right, I'm definitly used to using a centered one cuz I have a microsoft itellimouse (3button) rat right now, would the optical sensor being un centered make any difference? Thanks for any input! and sorry for making it so long....

Since it's to the right of the center of the mouse, I don't think it would change the feel but I haven't used it personally. I would hypothesize that only moving the sensor to the front or rearwards of the mouse would change the feel and tendancy to use wrist vs. shoulder (i.e. traditional mice vs. Razer Boomslang). The largest factor to consider between the two aside from price is the weight. It may take some getting used to in order to pick the mouse up and drop it on a different location of the pad. I don't think you can lose with either, and the freedom from a cord is really nice. I would recommend getting some better NiMH batts for the MX700 though because I've heard it comes with fairly lowmill ones. It's easy to find some Goldpeak 1800mAH (edit: go for the 1900mAH ones) AA batts which are about the best you can get. Good luck

edit- newer 1900mAH Goldpeak batts came out recently :Q

"haev a blue light instead of red and higher accuracy whether i can tell or not"

I don't know about the MX500, but the only light on the 700 is red to light the mousing surface for the optical sensor.

Edit: The 500 is the same as the 700 with no light on top, just the red underneath:

As PliotronX said, it shouldn't make any difference unless the sensor is moved forward or backwards on the mouse. When using the mouse, the sensor is on the left side, not the right.

The batteries the MX700 come with are 1700mAh and they do drain pretty quickly. I upgraded to some 1800mAh Duracell's and to be honest I didn't notice any significant improvements. This mouse kills batteries. Though to be honest, if you remember to drop the mouse on the cradle whenever you aren't using it (which I forget to most of the time), you should be fine unless you use your computer for a couple of days without stopping frequently.

You will not know the difference whether it is in the middle or not since after all it is optical. Second, the refresh rate of the MX700 is 125Hz which is the speed of the USB port, so there should be no lag. I have an MX700 coming in the mail and should be here in a few days. When I get it, I can post and tell you how it actually is.

Up until yesterday I used the orginal MS Intellimouse Explorer which was a great mouse. I bought the Logitech Elite duo which has the wireless keyboard and bundles wireless mouse. The mouse has horrible ergonomics compared with the MX700 and Explorer mice. The tracking is very smooth, but at the very beginning of movement it lags just a bit. At first I had a little hard time getting used to it, but now I am getting used to it, so hopefully I will be suprised by the MX700.

How long does the battery life actually last? For a 8 hour charge would it last for a 12 hour use or something like that?

I would say around 3-5 days if you use your computer quite a bit. The batteries don't take 8 hours to charge, maybe an hour to an hour and a half tops.

mine last 3-4 days on one charge. charges up in about 1.5-2 hours i believe.

only thing on the mx700 that bugs me is when the battery is low the stupid red light always flashes at me. no way to get rid of it that i've found.

I was reading on the Logitech website that if you have normal computer usage, it should last all day, as long as you put it back on the charger at night.

The mouse pad can also effect battery life, the new Everglide Giganta Optical mouse pad(Review here ) can increase battery life on cordless mice.So using good batteries and mouse pad will help extend the life of those cordless mice before batteries need to be replaced or recharged.

I have the MX700. Performs just like a corded mouse, no lag, rechargeable batteries. Best mouse I have ever had. Beats the MS opticals hands down.

I just bought the MX700 to replace a Mouseman Optical Cordless. It's definitely the best mouse that I've used. It is so much more precise than the Mouseman. The controls are also more refined. Sort of like the difference between a Mustang and BMW. What I especially love about the MX700 is the charging system. I was using rechargeables with my Mouseman and it started to become a pain to swap out batteries all the time. All I do with this mouse is throw it on the charger overnight and I'm good to go the next day.

I've been using an MX700 for about a month now and I love it. Best mouse I've ever had, and no cords to get in the way.

I play lots of games... UT 2003, BF1942, etc ... and I havent seen ANY lag, it's very smooth and very responsive.

I'm using the batteries that came with it... it recharges pretty quickly, and even if I've forgotten to put it back in the charger for a day or so I dont notice any difference, the batteries are still good.

The only problem I've had is with the drivers. When the official ligotech drivers are installed (which gives you control over button mappings and battery indicators) I couldnt get the mouse wheel to work in any of my games. I had to go back to just the plain windows drivers instead. Hopefully logitech fixes them soon.
