The point of it was to show anytime you lifted the mouse up and put it down the MX1000 won't recognize it for a little bit - in games that will kill you. Try it with your mouse now... see? The cursor moves. It doesn't budge AT ALL with the MX1000 for many people. Stay FAR away unless you buy it with a good return policy (I had to pay 15% restocking fee at CompUSA!).

These are my findings,

No.1: the mouse if not moved does not power down until 5 seconds after , even if you lift the mouse well off the mat and keep it in the air ,no gamer keeps his mouse in the air for 5 seconds, not unless he`s trying to use his laser on air to air targets .

No.2: even after the full 5 seconds in the air, when I put it down it responds straight away,I`ve tried many times to reproduce the actions in the video clips, but find it impossible.

Did Logitech bring out a new REV version? Your guess is as good as mine,I do know with all the latest reviews around the net there has been no lag problems, the only downside to gaming with the MX1000 IMHO is the weight, which you do get use too after awhile,it`s about 2 ounces heavier then the MX510.

I bought the MX1000 for me and for a good friend on his birthday. We both play Desert Combat for at least 5 hours a day. Me and my friend think this mouse is the best mouse in the world. I have not found anything I dislike about it. I've tried to duplicate the problems on either mouse for a while now worried that I might have a crappy mouse afterall. I do not see any problems. Both mouse responded instantly after lifting the mouse in the air.

I have the mx1000, the mx510, and the Razer Diamondback all sitting here on my desk. I have played first person shooters with all three of them for 2+ hours each over the last week. The diamondback is by far the best mouse in terms of precision and feel. Anyone considering buying either of those logitech mice for gaming, I strongly encourage you to take a good look at the diamondback. Just for reference purposes, I play high sensitivity, and have been playing FPS's competatively for 4 years now.

This is a standard test that the Chinese review sites use to check if the mouse can be used by low sens swipers/gamers:

1. Open Windows Control Panel, Mouse, set your Pointer Speed all the way down to the lowest it'll go.
2. Open a graphics program, set it to "paint" (ie create a line whereever the mouse goes)
3. Swipe the mouse while drawing the line very quickly left and right.

The MX510 will produce a clean left/right series of zig zags. The MX1000 will jump all over the place. None of the pro teams will use the MX1000 so it's strictly amateur hour.

Savourt well if that is true and not just a driver issue then that could be the end of this debate, lol. Someone with the mx1000 please test and let us know.

Edit: I just tested this with my mx510 and it works just like Savourt says producing a clean left and right zig zags.

I`ve posted in the other thread, however I don`t get any problems with the test,no lag or jumping around so passes like the MX510 .

it's kinda funny. you can get the sensitivity so low, by putting both the logitech setpoint's sensitivity all the way down, as well as the one in the control panel, to the point where you woulc basically have to move the mouse 5 feet to get half way across the screen. and savourt, i don't think i've ever seen any mouse that would jump that much. i never had my mouse jump no matter what i was doing. whether it was gaming or anything else, it was always smooth. ya, it might jump around if the battery is seconds from dead.... but that takes like 2 weeks if you use your computer a lot.

Not move slowly left and right, but very fast swipes left and right. The MX510 is rated at 40 inches per second top speed before it loses tracking. I've got both mice and I can tell you the MX1000 does NOT come close.

and exactly how often does anyone move their mouse at almost 4 feet per second? if your sensitivity is set to a normal feeling level, then you shouldn't have to worry about moving your mouse that much. also, how often do you have to swing your mouse side to side like a lunatic?

Taken from Logitech`s website,

Why does my mouse cursor occasionally jump to the top of the screen or act erratic at times?
Question

Why does my mouse cursor occasionally jump to the top of the screen or act erratic at times.
Answer

When connected to the USB port, the mice listed below may experience a jump in the mouse cursor or some erratic behavior from time to time. If your mouse is connected to the PS/2 port, you will not experience this problem.

* MX1000 Laser Mouse with a Receiver/Base Model Number (M/N): C-BN34
* MediaPlay Cordless Mouse (both Blue and Red) with a Dongle Receiver M/N: C-BS35

To resolve this issue, please download and install the new version of SetPoint, version 2.14. You can install the new version on top of the version you currently have installed. Alternatively, you can use your mouse on the PS/2 port.

I`m using the latest drivers so guess that`s why I`ve had no problems.

just picked up the mx1000. very nice mouse. it does have the pick up/set down lag as other people have noticed.

i have rev 1.3 with setpoint 2.14 with usb connection

i think people get confused when they hear lag. most people are prolly thinking regular lag, where the mouse doesn't respond when they move it in full surface contact, not the delay in the mouse movement after making conctact with the surface.

the MX1000 does not have movement lag, the only lag is after setting the mouse down, its about half a second delay for the cursor to resume moving. i would have to say its because of the new laser tracker. either it not seeing the laser reflection right away or because the laser does not turn back on fast enough. i don't see it having to do with the wireless part of the mouse.

i have the MX700 which doesn't have that problem. period. performs flawlessly. (fyi, for those who complain of battery life with the mx700... whens the last time you replaced the batteries? they are double AA batteries, you can replace them. nickle rechargables are bad for recharging and need to be replaced, they will lose their charged capacity. just use any nickle rechargable batteries... i believe they may have lithium recharges as well now, not sure on their lifespan)

i've used both mx510 and mx700. <shrug> both perform the same for me, i just prefer wireless.

if you don't pick up your mouse at all in FPS, MX1000 will work great. if you do pick up the mouse, i'd say get the MX700 if you want wireless.

some people will set their mouse sensitivity lower then normal. they do this so the mouse won't move as much. so if you move the mouse, the crosshairs will only move a mm in stead of an inch on the screen. that less movement will mean your crosshairs will still be on target rather then missing him to the left. with that lower mouse sensitivity, they can not do a 180 in the game very easily and must pick up the mouse and return it to the middle of the pad to continue/finish a big turn.

I don't think anyone has really understood why the laser mouse has this momentary delay. I work daily around lasers and know that government regulations are a bear. It doesn't matter that the power output of the laser in this mouse is miniscule, it is just a LASER --- Ooooooooo no!! not a LASER!!! (Of course it is just non-sense but thats how some people think - especially government types)

I expect that in order to use a laser where people might potentially be exposed to it they were required to make a pretty aggresive system to detect that the mouse is against a surface and that the slight delay may have been required before it was approved. Now I doubt Logitech would admit that, but my suspicions are that this is the real story.

I suspect that for liability reasons they were afraid some ignoramus would pick up the mouse look at the laser beam and claim that "OH GOD, it hurt my eye!!!!! - I want millions of dollars".

Think about it.

P.S. On this basis I would be suprised to find much difference between the 1.4 and 1.3 (By the way has anybody answered how to figure out whether a particular base/mouse is v 1.3 or 1.4?

I haven't looked closely, but I can recreate the same thing the video shows, but I don't often lift my mouse in game. I am a two handed player I use a lefthanded joystick for forward, backward, strafe left and right and the mouse for steering. The joystick has twist, so I use that for fast turning, and the mouse for more controlled turning (shorter turns). To turn very fast I use both at the same time.

Cheers all

It`s on the outside cover of CD drivers installation disc.

there is lag it's just so slight that most people don't notice it (ie. people who play with low sensitivities are going to notice it a lot more). i just went to the logitech forums and read how this mouse is very accurate yet it isn't designed for gaming. basically the tech guy was also hinting at new laser gaming mice and also mentioned the mx510 as a mouse for gamers. so sooner or later there will be a whole new line of "corded" and non-corded logitech mice. as for me i can move my mx1000 a few militmeters off the table before it doesn't respond. this is not a fault in the design but was done intentionally so you won't blind one of your friends with the laser and to conserve power of course (so i read anyway). my guess is that there will soon be some good mods on internet to disable this feature or "bug" depending on what side of the fence you are on so it stays on all the time.

we'll the only small fix on this i could figure out was train your hand to lift the mouse just a tad above teh mouse pad and it doesnt track, but yet when i place it down itll read alright. this is like... 3-4 CM... gay but at least its a improvision. i hope they do something about this. although no complaints about tracking or responses from normal motion.. its excellent. It's just like using a corded mouse.
I've owned the mx500, mx700, and nyko airflow. Tracking pwns. Just that pickup delay killing me now! There has to be a mod for this mouse someone could do to keep the laser on constantly w/o it having the delay but still have it go to sleep after 10 seconds of no movement...
edit: works a lot smoother if you disable acceleration and up the sensitivity on desktop.

So here we are, almost three months after I posted this thread and we find things to be exactly as I described. Some of you out there are lucky enough to either get a fully functioning MX1000 or are too ignorant to know the difference. In either case, you can't discount those of us who can't deal with it. If you only browse the web or open e-mail, it doesn't matter what kind of mouse you use, but obviously some of us want our purchases to work properly all the time, not just when it wants to.

Sorry to hear some of you have problems like I did; I tried to warn you though (get the MX510 as it is perfect for gaming). To everyone else still on the fence... DON'T REWARD SCAMS! Companies shouldn't use the public to test beta products without a full and clear warning. Mentioning it on the company forums does not count. You may get one that's fine, but I still say don't buy this beta product!!!

Some of you out there are lucky enough to either get a fully functioning mx1000 or are too ignorant to know the difference.

It could also be that some people don't have the same gaming "style" that you (or others with the same "problem) have, but I'm SURE you've factored that into the equation also -- it's probably THE difference that we need to focus on here..

In either case, you can't discount those of us who can't deal with it.

Nobody should discount your claim that for YOUR style of play that this version of their mouse doesn't function like YOU want it nor does it function like their predecessors did.. I don't think Logitech is BOUND to make their newer products work in EVERY SINGLE fashion that their predecessor did.. This doesn't make it a SCAM.. I've seen many new versions of products not work EXACTLY as their predecessors.. If you don't like a product or how it handles, RETURN IT.. If you bought it from somewhere where you can't return it then you are SCAMMING YOURSELF..

If YOU are too ignorant to comprehend the above then I know what YOUR issue really is..

I had a broken one too, the stopping problem when it was lifted and all. Also like someone said the tracking is very bad, I play with 1.0 sens and low windows sens in CS and it was very bad for me. MX510 has none of these problems.

I thank the OP, as this thread alone basically kept me from seriously looking at purcashing one of these. I was really interested in the fast RF of this product, as I'm a gamer who frequently lifts the mouse from the pad. But once I saw this thread, I looked into the issue, and it looks as if this is a problem with most of these mice. For those here who say they do not have the problem, it seems as if you probably do not fully understand the issue.

Thanks again to the OP. Here's hoping they fix this problem in the near future (if they haven't already).
