Logitech MX500- Good for gaming?

Ok, i have a wireless microsoft optical mouse special edition and it worked good the first 6 monts. But after that, it began to lag like crazy and sometimes stop working. I switched the batteries many times so that isnt the reason. Ok, so i need a new mouse. I play far cry [multiplqayer] and Condition Zero mult. Is the logitech mx500 mouse good for gaming? And does it stay good after 1 year of usage? Thanks a lot.

Yes. It is a very nice mouse. The 510 can take a bit higher acceleration if you're really looking for the best.

Mx1000 is too expensive, and im gettin he mx500 for 20 bucks refurb. Is it that much worse than the mx510?

The MX500 is an awesome mouse for gaming. Only one mouse is better in my opinion, the MX510.

I doubt you even have the mouse. Because if you did you would realize that this is the greatest wireless mouse ever made, and has no lag. It has much better response time than any mouse I have ever used. It is dead accurate and works on any surface you put it on, no matter how rough, smooth, etc.

you'll still have lag...just not as much with the MX1000, nothing is instantaneous

Yes, the MX1000 has no lag at all.

Anyway I would never buy a refurb'd mouse, just spend 10 more bucks and get the MX510.

I fiddled with a demo MX1000 we had set up at work for about a half-hour. Didn't really care for the weight or the shape of it all, but there was no noticable lag, and the accuracy seemed good.

I still don't trust wireless however. Too many issues keep getting reported, and having to charge my mouse = no.

i persoanlly hate all new mice since they say they are like 5 button mice but to me they are only 2 becuase all the other buttons u have to move your fingers around which totally sucks if your using it for games. I love mine for games and works great, its a true 3 button mouse which and 4 if u use scroll.
A comfortable 3 button mouse is a must for gaming which no new one has.

This is the one i own which you cant buy anymore and doesnt even show up on the american or canadian version of logitech site. If i were to buy a new mouse today i would still buy this one since it is the only new 3 button mouse which isnt so old. argue all you want with me but the new mice are no more then 2 buttons since u have to move your fingers around to press the rest which is awful for gaming.

might as well as here, but i really want logiteches DiNovo keyboard but its really expensive and have no use for mouse. I was looking at the wireless version becuase better colors and cheaper but still to much just for a keyboard. Does anyone know if they are gonna sell that thing on its own? I really wanna get it by next week.

I agree with what Insomniak said. Althought the MX1000 is a good mouse in terms of quality, I'm not really big on wireless myself. Too many things to go wrong. I would also hate charging my mouse, it's a lot like making my bed...

Also, I kind of agree with what Camspoon said. Any mouse with more than 3 buttons gets kinda confusing when it comes to gaming. You know, what if someone is shooting at you and you accidentally hit the "binoculars" button? But I have to stick with the MX510, it's just too good a mouse.

The extra buttons on Logitech's MX mice are very nice for desktop usage. For example, I bound the forward/back thumb buttons on my MX500 to control my windows volume, which is much easier than pulling up the panel every time. You can do some nice stuff with them in windows.

That said, no, they aren't very useful for gaming. But for gaming, I'm less concerned with buttons so much as the following, in order of preference:

1) accuracy
2) comfort
3) responsiveness (i.e. "no lag")

The MX510 is great, I have one myself, but if you're not a hardcore gamer, then the MX500 should be fine. Just don't get the refurbished one, I've had bad experiences with Logitech's refurbished products.

I am using an Mx500 right now, and I have an MX700 sitting next to it that I used for about 6 months (until it freaked out) and I've also used an MX1000 a fair amount all for playing counter-strike. What I have learned from them is that my friend can still destroy me using his Dell issued ball mouse. The quality of your mouse makes very little difference in gaming despite what any reveiw says. As long as you have a clean optical sensor or ball it just depends on how use you are to using the mouse.

And, according to Logitech, the MX1000 actually transmits to it's receiver faster then a corded mouse can, so anyone claiming wireless lag is incorrect.

From my experience, going from a ball to decent optical (such as the basic Microsoft Intellimouse)is a pretty big difference. Goin from a decent optical to an exensive optical, like a mx500 and above, is a very small difference only noticable to hardcore gamers.Microsoft Intellimouse

I love my MX500. I built a computer for a friend and included an MX510 with it (the system was a gaming rig). I could feel a bit of a difference. I would have upgraded to an MX510 myself, but I couldn't stand the texture of the mouse. Despite looking awesome, it was so glossy and smooth that it made my hand feel sticky -- even though I always have fairly dry, cool hands. My MX500 has a rougher texture.

I couldn't agree more with you about the texture, its slippery when my hands are sweaty and it feels stick when my hands aren't sweaty. It also gathers a lot of dirty that gets stuck to it, even though I wash my hands frequently, I'm a clean freak. However, the looks of it make up for the smooth texture and I am also very used to it since my old mouse of 3 years also had a similar texture.

have been usiing the MX510 and I love it. I would recommend using a wired mouse to prevent bad batteries from costing you any frags.

Yes I agree They also have the blue one available for 2-3 dollars more.
