i'm considering getting another optical mouse to replace my three yr dexxa mouse which has started to crap out on me...which one of the two, mx500 or ms optical, do you guys think is better?? i hear that there are some compatibility problems w/ the mx500 and its pretty expensive rite now. the ms optical on the other hand has a lower quality optical engine, but is cheap. it and feels a little chintzy like i''ll break down on me.

Anyone have any opinions?

Neither; rather get the MX700 (Logitech) cordless, rechargeable. quick and accurate.

I'll toss another vote for the MX700.

It works. To me, the logitech mice always seemed better quality. The MS stuff to me always felt "cheap". (We use MS mice at work and I hate the way they feel - cheap. They rattle much more than any mouse I've ever used.)

I agree on logitech but I would go with the dual optical, the mx's just don't do it for me for the price, I know the cord is a problem for some, but I game and I need the responsiveness only a cord can buy

The MX 500 is superior to the Dual Optical and MS mice. You don`t need to install the Mouseware software which means the scroll wheel and some of the buttons will work fine .Btw Logitech are releasing new Mouseware software very soon(within few weeks) that fixes issues like scrolling etc and I also read that they are going to start to cater for the gamer,in the end there`re work arounds for the MX 500 and however you look at it, its a great mouse.

Quality wise Logitech are no.1 on build quality.

UPDATE: New mouseware out today

the mx700 doesn't take batteries, it comes w/ a recharging base.

The MX700 *DOES* have batteries. It uses NiMH AA batteries. They are rechargeable via the charging base.

While I've read glowing reviews of the MX700 and claims that its cordlessness by no means lessen its performance, I just have a bad feeling about wireless devices in terms of bandwidth and latency, but I guess the mice isn't requiring much of either. Anyway, I love the look of the MS Intellimouse Optical(own one myself), but its doesn't track on all surfaces. I can't get it to track on my IKEA woodgrain tabletop, but so far that's the only flat surface I haven't been able to make it track...it tracks perfectly on my "mousepad"(a 3-ring binder). I hate the plastic feet though, but its nothing 4 strips of Teflon won't fix.

I don't think you could go wrong with either, unless of course you have the same table as me and have to use your mouse on it without a mousepad, or you don't have access to any Teflon tape/sheets.

thanx for everone's opinions....i'll think i'll go w/ thr mx500 since its "beefier" for my hand and has a better optical engine. hopefully the new mouseware has corrected any incompatibilities. now it time to find a deal on one of these

I have a Logitech MX500 mouse which replaced my Intellimouse Explorer 3.0!! I bought the IE3.0 and at first loved it, then the left button broke and they had to replace it, then the mouse just stopped working sometimes and the tail light would go out while using it so they had to replace it again... This time though i went out and got the MX500 and I love it, the brand new IE3.0 they sent me is still in the box sealed up, I'm going to sell that, Logitech all the way!!
