I currently use a MX1000 but have gotten into gaming, especially BF2, so I'm thinking of getting the MX518. Is adjusting sensitivity on the fly useful?

My roomate bought one of these to upgrade his mx510. I've tried using both his mice (both mx510 and 518) and i can't tell the difference. The dpi adjustment is stupid as hell too-- i tried pushing the adjustment all the way up and all the way down, couldn't feel the diff, not on a func 1030 smooth surface.

I find the ability to adjust the sensitivity on the fly useful, especially for BF2. I usually have it at 800dpi (the middle setting) since it's not too fast nor not to slow, but if I in a tank or a vehicle, I change it to 1600dpi so I can move the turret and\or view faster. I rarely use the slowest setting (400dpi), since it seems to slow, but I do sometimes use it when I snipe.

You seriously can tell the difference and have enough time to do it in a game?! And doesn't that mess up your consistency to switch back and forth? I think for games like CS, there's not enough time to change sens. just to snipe.

I had an MX510 before my 518 and I really don't notice a difference. Although I haven't installed the Logitech drivers because i'm scared :Q I would say it's not worth the extra price but hey..out with the old and in with the new

Yeah, I can tell the difference. When I have it at 1600dpi, it seems really fast, 800dpi is just normal, and 400dpi is really slow (making me move my mouse a lot, which is why I don't usually use it).

I usually do have time to do it in a game like BF2, where there are lulls in combat or when I get in a vehicle. It doesn't really mess with my consistency becuase I mostly use it when I get into vehicles (which lower the sensitivity to make the turret move slower). I don't really use it in games like CS, since theres usually not enough time to.

I play CS 1.6 and source relatively hardcore. I never change sens. on the fly, it'd take too long to change it to snipe, especially since your scoping in and out all the time, and switching to pistol and back all the time.

I do like the MX518 though, it was a pretty big improvement over my old microsoft optical 1.1 mouse. I use the forward thumb button for voice because its super useful to be able to talk while being able to move and jump at the same time, it's really the only extra button i use though.

Why are you scared of installing drivers? Installing drivers hasn't really caused me to lose any sleep.

I play CS:S all the time and I agree its too much trouble to change the dpi when sniping. I leave mine at 800 dpi all the time. Plus I don't like the way it effects the speed when you change dpi ...too distracting. I also use the front thumb button for voice chat. LOL
