I just received the MS Wireless Desktop Optical Pro and I'm 100% satisfied with the keyboard. The keys feel really soft and it has convenient Multimedia buttons such as: My Pictures, My Documents, E-mail, Media, Calculator, Sleep, Messenger, & Web -- majority of those programs I use! The keys on the Microsoft Wireless Desktop Pro feels better than my Logitech Comfort Wireless Duo (Split Keyboard).

As for games, I only had a chance to try out Quake 3 and Unreal 2003 and they run fine with no lag whatsoever. That is such a pitty that the Bluetooh Wireless keyboard lags that bad.

Thanks for all your input on the MX700, I went ahead and ordered that mouse too and will be replacing my corded MX500. The keyboard came with a wireless optical mouse but I haven't used it since I already have the MX500 and about to receive the MX700 shortly. The only drawback about the Microsoft Keyboard is that the receiver connects to the PS/2 port while as the Logitech connects to the USB port. I don't know if that makes a difference but I prefer to connect my peripherials to the USB port.

Any further questions regarding the keyboard, please let me know.

Helpful hint on the MX700 mouse, be sure to download the latest software/drivers from the Logitech site (ver: 9.73). I have been using it continuously for the past 5 hours, battery level still reads "good" almost at the top. It is a keeper. I will order the MS wireless desktop pro as soon as it becomes available online. Perhaps the MS keyboard is PS2 to get around the problem of getting into the BIOS that the Logitech wireless keyboard has (see above). Regardless, I already have 6 or 7 USB items plugged in and my PS2 port is feeling unappreciated.

If you get a wireless keyboard make sure your neighbor isn't picking up the signal like that one story a few days ago!

Creepy stuff he was like 100-150 METERS away they said and they couldnt figure out why his computer was picking it up.

MS are you listening???

Came across this little number over at Amazon.

Split keyboard and mouse combo . Only thing is it uses the old mouseman optical design, which was kinda large and heavy Too bad they aren't bundling this with the MX700, which is just plain rocks.

From what I've read, Microsoft wireless mice have "wake up" time. Ie. if you leave your mouse motionless, it will take a couple of seconds to start back up moving and clicking when you're ready to use it again. This can be VERY annoying in games. Not to mention it sucks down batteries fast.

I've read that if you want a wireless mouse and you want to play games - the MX 700 is where you need to spend your money. It's rechargeable (supposedly it can be used for like 2 days?? without recharging) and it has no wakeup time. The reviewer left it still for about an hour and when he came to use it it worked just like a wired mouse.

Personally, I've never had a problem with any wired mouse and also I don't like the feel of the MX 500 or 700.. that's just personal preference. You might want to go to a store and try before you spend $60-$70 though.

I was looking pretty hard at the MX700 and the MX500 today. Almost walked out of the store with one...

Anyone using these mice with Linux. How do they work with it?

I heard the software was buggy. Can anyone confirm or deny this, I hope this is not true as I want a cordless mouse but would probably go with the MX700.

The Logitech software has always had problems with the scroll wheel during certain games. In order to fix that, you must set the scrolling size to "none" in the Logitech software and download powertoys thru Microsoft for XP and enable scroll wheel thru there. It will run perfect after that!

From what I've heard they've fixed the scroll problem with the new software version. Either or at least there is an alternative.

Can anyone confirm or deny any of this. I might get it for myself for Christmas if there are no software issues.

I have the 700 and its a great mouse, the software, mouseware, its pretty bad, but you do not need to use in order to get the full functions of the mouse, just install the mouse's drivers, not mouseware. Great mouse. The batteries last a long time, if you are a super hardcore gamer and it runs out, you can always pop in another set off rechargeable batteries with the same specs, totaly recomend this to anyway, as far as the price goes, I got mine for 35 thanks to the hot deal's forum and office depot.

The latest is there will be new mouseware software available at the end of this month which will fix a lot of the problems with the MX series mice(there`re work arounds at the moment),I also read that Logitech will finally be catering for the gamer,I hope so.

That is good because I might really consider this mouse only once the drivers are rock solid. I don't want bad mouse drivers as I already have to worry about mobo, graphics, sound, etc.

Also, does anyone know if Microsoft will be releasing an updated version of the wireless Intellimouse Explorer?

Dude what else do you need. Everyone loves this mouse. Sure the drivers are a bit buggy but so is everything MS puts out not to mention every game released. There will be patches. Get the mouse

I've been looking to get one, but if it doesn't work under linux, there's no point. Has any body tried it under linux?

Well none of my Microsoft hardware and actually software recently have been buggy. I have enough to worry about with real hardware, and I don't want to worry about my mouse/keyboard drivers.

When the new drivers come out, can someone please talk about them here or start a new topic?
Thx

My Logitech MX700 works great...no driver problems or Mouseware problems. I am using the latest downloaded driver BTW.

mrman3k,

I just went through a DOS format/partitioning of my new Maxtor 80GB Ultra, a few BIOS edits, and a full fresh install of WinXP with my cordless freedom keyboard and my MX700 mouse. No issues whatsoever once I booted into XP, and I had mouse functionality as soon as I was in the XP OS shell during install. All the default features work in XP, so I haven't even bothered installing mouseware. It worked fine in Win2k too.

So it sounds like it is okay to get now. Sounds great, I will probably get it for myself for Christmas.

Well, I picked up this mouse today. More than happy with it so far. I see people are concerned about the weight, but I actually like the weight. It feels right to me.

I was concerned that it wouldn't work under linux properly, but I hooked it up, let it charge up a bit and booted into linux. It works great. (BTW, using Suse Pro 8.1). Didn't have to fiddle with anything at all. The only buttons not working are the thumb buttons and the app button, but I wasn't expecting them too. The scroll wheel and the scroll buttons are working fine.

Well I went to Fry's earlier, and tried this mouse out. It is damn near perfect. I really like the weight, perfect for me. No lag with the cordless stuff. The only thing I am not a big fan of are Logitech's scroll wheel. I much prefer the Microsoft scroll wheel which is much smoother and requires less forced grip. Now the scroll wheel is a huge part for me, but I think I could live with the MX700 scroll wheel. It is either that or I hope MS comes out with a better cordless Explorer to match the MX700.

Best Buy has the Bluetooth mouse. Does anyone have any experiences with this mouse? It sounds very interesting. If you have any experience with it how does it work with your 802.11b network if you have one?
